If you're of a certain age in the UK, then you know who the legendary John Peel is. Throughout his 3 decade stint on BBC radio, there were many John Peel sessions in which independent acts of all flavours would record a set in the Maida Vale studio for the show. In many respects KEXP have become the world wide, modern successor on these well loved sessions. Fantastic stuff.

Aye, this show is possibly the most worthy successor to Peel's legacy in terms of the eclectic selection of artists showcased for listeners to discover and expand their musical horizons/mind, the sheer depth of evidently unwavering authentic passon behind it, the expert mixing of the live sessions by talented engineers, and the lovely down-to-earth no-nonsense atmosphere of it all - Peel was a legend with a winning combination of elements that never got stale, and certain KEXP sessions feel as vital and momentous as so many Peel sessions did; some of the greatest not-completely-mainsream artists in history have Peel sessions on record that are among the best work they ever put out, and KEXP could easily do that too. I feel like the majority of UK broadcasters let our music scenes down badly, no one really funds & runs anything as good and comprehensive as this anymore for emerging bands since Peel's era - KEXP have loads of groups on from all over these isles, yes, but being based in America they don't tend to get the REALLY early growths of things from the underground here like Peel famously used to, so I wish we had a true counterpart to this in Britain & Ireland. There's so much stuff put out now, to have a focused & engaging spotlight on the most interesting and exciting cream of what's out there amongst the dross that dominates seems like a very important thing we're missing. At least the likes of these beautiful people are still carrying the torch somewhat

Never heard this band before, but less than 60 seconds into the first song, I decided that Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs is one of my new favourite bands! Somehow I could tell it was going to be kick ass when the singer was jumping barefoot up & down getting pumped & ready to go. The shoeless bass player also gave me a hint of this, haha. KEXP somehow manages to mix and record these live performances better than 90% of studio albums. It’s unreal how great they do… they also got amazing bands like pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs (and Los Cogelones from last week… outrageous good)

Yeah - saw them a few weeks ago in York. Small venue, loud and sweaty. Great night - even my wife who is not really into anything heavy got well into them. Hopefully I can start taking her to increasingly heavy stuff - Pigs could be a gateway band - you never know…
By limits, do you mean the bored looking drummer doing 1/3 of what he's probably capable of and the riffs that a beginning guitar player could play? I think if the singer wore shorter shorts and did a backflip while clutching his balls it would be closer to absolute.
These guys are good! It’s like if a hardcore band got stuck in the bush for a whole summer with nothing to eat but weed brownies and acid... you’d get this sound. 🤟
This basically that post-hardcore sound that late-stage black flag and others were doing 40years ago only these guys do it better than most, but yeah that is an apt description of their sound.

I'm cynical so I saw the look of these guys and thought "they look like an Idles rip off, crazy rock dudes". But the sound of the guitars/bass, the vocals, this is great music. Hope their studio keeps pumping out this stuff for a long time to come. The sound engineer needs a raise, this sounds huge.

Oh man The Idles are amazing, I found them through Tiny Desk Concert and I was immediately hooked. These guys give off the same energy.
If you guys like idles and these guys check out Swans, I feel like they were the ones that really drove this type of sound.

This is killer. Tons of power. Makes me think of Survival through sheer determination. Killer grooves and I love the trippy guitar layered into the unfolding. I love that Bass Player. It's all awesome.

I'm cynical so I saw the look of these guys and thought "they look like an Idles rip off, crazy rock dudes". But the sound of the guitars/bass, the vocals, this is great music. Hope their studio keeps pumping out this stuff for a long time to come. The sound engineer needs a raise, this sounds huge.
