  • This horse was in need of some new hooves - and Jeb Hunt CJF delivered! We chose to handle this case by putting him into a set of glue on shoes using Libero flat shoes from Mustad, paired with an aluminum pad for maximum support!

    To be able to visually determine a problem is very helpful to the owner. Your advice, technique and explanation of the process is very professional. thank you

    Very good tip on where to check for rotation. Never seen it done like that. I have always thought, but never heard anyone say, that a lamanitic horse grows excess heel in an effort to bring the coffin bone back to parallel to the ground surface . I would like to know your thoughts on this.

    • @olsenequinecjf
      @olsenequinecjf  Місяць тому +1

      Most lamanitic horses grow forward, with excessive toe because the heels are taking so much concussion with no relief, causing them to be weakened. By supporting the whole hoof it will promote healthier growth all around!

    Hoe did the horse walk afterwards ? And why were no X-Rays taken?

    • @olsenequinecjf

      Horse was visibly more comfortable but not perfect, but in something like this we understand it is a process and were glad to be headed in the right direction!
      Owner elected against xrays

      When top dressing he probably file rubbed the coronary band there

    • @olsenequinecjf
      @olsenequinecjf  Місяць тому

      Just a sanding block was used during the finishing process and slightly caught the coronary band!

    😮 When you have a horse with lamintis ,you normally don't take a grinder to add heat to the hoof

    • @scottpaul7187
      @scottpaul7187 4 дні тому +1

      Its a flap disc on a severely distorted wall. Its either 5 mins with the flapper disc or jeb stand there rasping for 30 mins each foot breaking his back and making the horse stand longer than he needs too.

  • @BreechBodyy
    @BreechBodyy Місяць тому +1

    Surely taking the file to the hoof wall just makes the foot weaker? 🤔

      We shoot for real authenticity when it comes to a case like this, to show there are no gimmicks! Sometimes during a busy day and a case like this comes in we have to just manage with what time and opportunity we have!

      I would think caring for the horse is more important than actually filming the care . Poor horse had suffered enough with painful feet - getting trimmed and new shoes to address the problem will start making the horse more comfortable. Seeing the before, pointing out what to test and how to address the problem, helps educate owners so they know what to look for. Lovely work!

    Poor horse. Chopped toes off and will never recover

    • @olsenequinecjf
      @olsenequinecjf  Місяць тому +4

      In a lamanitic case, getting a horse back to the proper center of rotation along the coffin bone is crucial. Do you think this is possible without taking off the toe to achieve proper breakover?
