while camping in the smokey mountains, my dad saw a bear. he crept up on it with his camera. every time it moved, my mom would freak out a little. long story short, it turned out to be a fat lady in a black fur coat, squatted down peeing in the woods. she was mortified my dad was standing there with a camera when she stood up and turned around. we've never let dad live that one down. the best part was that her husband was right beside us in their van, watching the whole thing. never said a word.

On a Geology trip, I went on a rigorous 5 mile hike. Afterwards we went back to camp, and for some fucking reason, the showers were locked. So since our camp site was located right by the lake, I had the bright idea to go skinny dipping ( keep in mind that it was 50 degrees), but, I did not notice that to the right of me was the main road to enter our camp ground... and people. And I'm pretty sure seeing a naked black guy bathing in a lake wasn't the best thing for a middle class white family to see... but it was a great experience. Builds character...

one vacation I recommend is the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. So much fun to be had. Camping, hiking, off roading. Good times.

Im scared of those things cause theyll just maul ya and then let you crawl around. Well the mountain lion wont but they stalk you all creepily. Yall get what Im saying. And camping's always great
You went to Hymans! I'm from SC and we used to go there all the time! Great food and the cards on the table are really fun to read too. Nice to hear that y'all stopped by in my neck of the woods.
I went hunting up in the mountains and we were staying in a tent so we didnt have a bathroom. I grabbed a roll of toilet paper and squated up against a tree i ended pooping on top of a spider.

Growing up in Pennsylvania, I found my own campsight, the law doesn't need to know about it its none if their business. Just go in the woods, bring guns, friends, tents (even though I make my own shelter) and a smile. It's like a good fishing spot, find your own spot and don't tell anyone where it is. I can't go camping and be bossed around. That's why I go camping, to get away from everything.

I went camping a couple of times in my days, but most of the places I camped were unstaffed. Alongside rivers, trails, the Appalachian Mountains, that kind of thing. One time we got to a waterfall-lake kind of thing and a couple of guys and I decided to jump from a 50ft ledge into the water (mountains, remember?) It was tons of fun, but on my second go I jumped wrong and hit a rock. I'm surprised I didn't break my leg! I then had to hike 9 miles back to civilization with a pack carrying my food, tent, clothes, and other gear. Believe me, that was an experience...
Of course I warned my buddies that it was possible to jump the wrong way and hit a rock the way I did, but I did not force them to not jump from the ledge! things like that should be at a person's discretion. If they want to continue jumping from the ledge, they can atleast do it, now with the knowledge of what NOT to do.

I was born in FL, and have lived here my entire life, and a great deal of that has been spent camping in various places. One of my favorites is in an unmanaged area in Ocala National Forest, deep into the wild. While I have seen bear droppings, I have never, NOT ONCE, seen a bear. The bear we do have here are a small variety of black bear.
The worst thing you'll encounter is a racoon, and the only reason they suck is because they will attempt to get at your trash and cause a huge mess while you sleep.
Those morons at Juniper springs give Floridians a bad name...

I only went camping once, and that was for my 11th birthday; it wasn't too bad, except for the sunburn I got on my back, everyone complaining about being in the RV, and the family having to get a hotel room.

If you guys want a prim camping spot, Try Cranberry Lake in the Adirondacks. It's heavily wooded, fairly quiet, there's fishing, hiking, biking, small town stuff to do (there's a cardboard boat race every year), and there's a restaurant called the Pinecone Tavern that serves fantastic burgers and bloomin' onions. My family had a wonderful time there and think you guys would too... though it's a bit of a drive for you guys. But since it's a state park the cost is relatively low, so that's a bonus. The are tons of great places to stay in New York, though, so maybe you'll find something better. There's more to the state than Manhattan and Long Island, Simon!!
This morning my gf of 5 yrs decided we should split; hours later I watched helplessly as an SUV full of old women reversed full speed into my corvette. As I admired the carnage wrecked upon me by the Golden Girls, all I could think was "hope the neebs crew uploads something good to maybe unfuck my day". Thanks guys, truly.

Sitting here in Phoenix and hearing you guys talk about coming here and going to Watauga (I grew up in Ashe, right next to Boone) and I get all excited only to check the publish date and see it's from five years ago.

I love the fact people never listen to rangers and then find out that you left the cooler out for one more day and realize that your campsite may or may not have a bear the size of a ford fiesta, rip a metal cooler apart to the point where it isnt a cooler anymore. I learned that the hard way... In new yorks anarondacks, and let me tell ya, we never saw that cooler again

I am a zombie until 10:30, regardless of what time I wake up or go to sleep. I start work at 7:45 and nothing gets done until my brain kicks in at 10:30. I also constantly forget to take stuff to work every day, keys, lunch, spare change... just everything.

went to a cliff jump in Australia that had fencing cornering it off because 2 kids died there, tragic but not everyone else's fault. but it being Australia you could climb round the fence, which is more dangers than walking to the edge of the cliff, but can also climb the fence making the jump higher and more risky.
