Pink Princess Philodendron ~ How to Grow from a Cutting and Understanding Variegation in Leaf/Node

  • If you purchased or have thought about buying one of my Pink Princess Cuttings listed on my Etsy, watch this video! I do my best to answer most of your questions regarding (1) propagation methods, (2) growing mediums, (3) and what variegation you can expect from the new growth. Just because pop's are more expensive, doesn't mean they are more difficult to grow. Yes they are slower because of the variegation, but this is how most nurseries grow their nursery stock, so learning how to do this with a pink princess specimen will help you with all your other philodendrons :) Happy growing fam!
    Last thing! I will be making another video i recommend watching next for LEAFLESS NODE propagation, and common mishaps that can happen when propagating leaf cuttings. You are not alone on this journey! :) I look forward to supporting you every step of the way and answering all the questions you have about this exciting experience :)
    Cheers! And as always...
    PEACE, LOVE, & FLOWER POWER!!

    Hey! I purchased a node about 3 weeks ago and I'm wondering if maybe it's getting too much inderect sunlight, as it's losing some of its pink. Thanks in advance.

    Just some friendly advice it would be very helpful if you added arrows or slowed down and pointed to the areas you’re talking about. Mine has barely any variegation and I want to chop it up to see if I can get more variegation because the stem is highly variegated but not the leaves. I fully believe that the variegation depends on where the new leaf pops out of on the stone and not the coloring of the stem as a hole for an example. If the leaf pops out of an area that is a lighter in color it’s probably going to have more variegation, but if it pops out of an area on the stand that is it darker in color it’s probably going to be a green leaf. Do you transfer from moss to soil once it’s more established?

      My favorite is New Zealand long fiber Sphagnum Moss from Amazon or any big box retailer. The quality is typically great! Sometimes it’s a little dirty, that’s okay, it just requires more soaking and cleaning 😊💚

    Did you keep the sphagnum moss consistently wet or do you let it dry out?

      Great question! You want to keep the moss consistently wet until you see new root growth in the moss😊🌿

    After you cut it do you immediately put it in water or do you let it callus over for a certain period of time?

    • @bloomdaddyplants
      @bloomdaddyplants  Рік тому +2

      great question! With philodendron pink princess, i rarely give them time to callus before placing them in water. It's more important to callus for aroids in the Hoya genus from my experience :)

    What would you recommend for a ppp grown from tissue culture that was mailed prematurely? It came in soil but she put it in soil too soon! I thought moss would be the best option

    • @bloomdaddyplants
      @bloomdaddyplants  Рік тому

      ooo tissue culture... don't worry there is hope! Moss is a great option for root medium, but as long as the pot it's in isn't oversized, you should be good with either moss or an aroid mix of your choice. Personally moss is my favorite :)

    What type of fertilizer do I use? Use every time I water since moss doesn’t have nutrients?

    Hi! I just watch your video and have a few questions. I just received a pink princess rooted in a spongy medium. I was told to pot it but the roots look really small and up high on the chunk.

    • @bloomdaddyplants
      @bloomdaddyplants  Рік тому

      Hey! Hope all is growing well :) If they are still pretty small, you can keep propagating in water until you see an inch or two of growth. At that point, potting is a great option!

    Help- I just ordered and received a ppp and it arrived with ALL of the larger leaves broken or slightly cracked (and they are starting to wilt) any suggestions on what to do? Should I cut off the leaves that are damaged? And what to do with the stem that would be left behind after clipping the leaf? Can I root that (even if it has no arial root)Thank you so much in advance!

      Hi!! OMG i would ask for a return ahahah, but if that is not an option with the company you purchased from, i recommend cutting her up into nodes and either doing the above water propagation method, or if the nodes do not have leaves, i recommend moss propagation. Check out my moss video on how to ensure the moisture level is just right to keep your nodes happy :))

    Does the leaf has to have aerial roots already? Or can I just cut one leaf and put it into water? 😍

    • @asterism.x
      @asterism.x 2 роки тому

      Just make sure it has a node at the end of the cutting. If you cut above the node and there is no node, nothing will grow

    • @bloomdaddyplants
      @bloomdaddyplants  2 роки тому

      great question! Your cutting does not have to have an aerial root to successfully propagate, s long as the bottom part of the node is in water and you increase humidity levels, your cutting will thrive :)

    Hi! I’m a new subscriber coming to you from Bloom and Grow! This is so cool - I have been doing water propagations but just recently learned about Sphagnum Moss. I didn’t know that I could go from water to sphagnum though! I was wondering, does it matter if I give the water that I moisten the sphagnum with food? I’ve been adding some Liquid Dirt and Super Thrive to the water that I propagate in, and I was thinking of soaking the moss in a water/Liquid Dirt/Super Thrive mixture as well. I’d love to hear your thoughts on that.
    I started following you on Instagram. My username is @mysticstitches and I did enter the giveaway. Fingers crossed! 😊

      Hey Fam! Great question :) I typically do not add nutrients to moss because it tends to increase chances of algal growth. I make sure the fertilizer heavily diluted when watering plants in moss :)
