    "You're probably unsubscribing right now." - 😅🤣😂 . Even if ALL your plants lose their variegations one day, that statement WILL KEEP PEOPLE SUBSCRIBED, that's for sure. You're the one of the most naturally funny guys online. You make lonely and depressed me laugh at the most unexpected moments. I watch you for plant growing info but your blabber really, seriously, helps me heal from my emotional trauma. Love you lots Shaun!!!

    "Staring a little too long at a bleeding plant...awkward"...HA HA HA! Your too cute!!! And I do agree with the randomness of the Pink Princesses and the their ease of reverting is the downside of owning one. I had one with phenomenal variegation and I sold it thinking I could get another one...and now with the size and variegation of the one I sold it would be cost at least $1000 for one like it. Looks like I won't be get another one like the one I had. I kick myself up to this day for selling it! Great results...and sorry to hear about your losses it is the unfortunate facts of plant life. I just did a major hack job on 2 of my huge reverted pink princesses in hopes of getting some variegated babies. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Hoping you are well and wishing you the best! HAPPY GROWING!

    I can't afford a pink princess but one of my philodendron brazil, started to revert to all green....so I cut off the stem and have propagated it. If you look closely at other
    stems, you can see both yellow and green...this is a good indicator of how much variegation a plant has and the leaves carry some of this as they uncurl. So if I did buy a pink princess, I'd check the stems closely. ( Although I've never seen one up close).

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  4 роки тому +1

      The stem on the pink princess is mostly maroon on mine , maybe this is a sign of faded variegation. But ive seen people post pink princesses with 10+ green leaves and finally a variegated one... this shows how random the variegations are. Brazils respond well to light and will give insane variegation with direct sunlight.

    • @jomassey5842
      @jomassey5842 4 роки тому

      @@onlyplantsAgree. I think the variegation must be hard to decipher on the pink princess. Its really just pure luck in the end. Thanks for replying. Namaste.

    One local florist I'm familiar with has an older pink princess, not for sale. Has very colourful leaves, greens are actually the minority on her. Been that way for years now. The plant is not well-sunlit at all, but is surrounded by a lot of artificial lights. Not even grow lights, just a banal selection of phosphorescent tubes. Perhaps that's the thing that helps them grow pinks? Unnatural environment. Maybe?

But you just convinced me not too... since what everyone says is that variegation is so unstable. Think I'll go looking for a prince (of orange) instead of a finicky princess :) (By the way, I picked up this cool pseudoeranthemum, which is killer if you like pink purplish variegation and it's stable)

    I've read that variegation comes from viruses. What if your plant has developed immunity from the virus? What if the original virus that caused the first mutation is no longer in your area (in the cases that it was purchased elsewhere? I wonder if the prop cuttings didn't get as pink as the mother plant because they aren't as strong as the mother? I own one and I'll keep the instability in mind.

    • @onlyplants

    Hi Sean, some people said if variegated plants "too happy" (such as fertilized regularly, etc), the plants will lose its variegation. So you have to make your plants a bit "suffer" to maintain the variegation.
    Based on your experience, what do you think bout that theory? Is it true?

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  4 роки тому +1

      That doesnt seem to be true. For most species more light = more variegation and less light = reversion. The easiest way to see these is in epipremum or pothos.

    So, PPPs have come so far down in price, it’s amazing! Two days ago, I got my first PPP from…. (Drum roll or eye roll, whatever trips your fancy) Walmart!!! $25 in California money! I was in a hurry and was just “visiting” the plant section, and there they were!!! I briefly looked them over and this very large one caught my eye (yes I am greedy), I grabbed her up, and went about my business. Brought her home and realized deep down inside the pot was another small PPP, this PPP Junior is the reason I came here was to find out if this is a separate plant or an offshoot and was looking for division directions. Now I am worried if it’s an offshoot will it die if I separate them? I am not planning on doing so until it cools down (we are having 110 Fahrenheit weather). So about two months from now. My daughter in Washington wants a small one and this is the only reason I want to divide them. She also wants a cutting of my Black Cherry PPP, so I have a few months before sending them to her! And getting my new one established.

      I would wait for the smaller to be more established before separating if you are unsure. They seem to be in good hands!

    Hi sean have you tried a slow release fertilizer called dynamite? A friend recommends that type of fertilizer to me and i tried it on my reverting variegated plants and somehow all of the plants get its variegation back and they grow super fast too i'm super happy now

      Hello I’ve not tried that but I have a feeling variegation is a combination of luck, genetics, and light levels. 😌

    I have a tall pink princess, If I cut the top to propagate it will it continue to grow at the top from spot I cut the stem?

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  Рік тому +1

      It will grow from the next available node right below where you cut it. Sometimes they put out 2 new vines if they are a happy plant

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  4 роки тому

      Did you overwater it? If the roots are healthy new leaves should push out. each node also have a potential to push out a whole new branch - as long as the roots or stem is not rotten or dried off completely

      @@onlyplants actually i went on a vacation for about 20days and when i came back all the leaf fell off but the roots are ok,not rotten. So i wanted to ask if i sud keep the roots moist now or sud avoid overwatering cos i donot want to kill it. 😃
