All these years later I’m getting choked up with nostalgia and an adult understanding of how serious it is. I now feel connected with Angela’s character rather than just the little girl/big sister. I can imagine how much hope and fear channeled through our good witch’s mind as she did all she could to protect her homeland and family. She’s leading the charge of CENTURIES of brave people who fought for their homeland just like her.

This scene is one of my absolute favorites of all time. It carries so much weight seeing the massive force of animated armor lining up in preparation for a battle against evil.
If Kingdom Hearts ever gave this movie tribute, it should be the armor army as a summon.

As a kid, I never really got how truly badass (is that okay to say about a Disney film?) this scene is. When I was little, I of course didn't understand Nazis or WWII, so I never really got the depth of how vital it was for this spell to work. As an adult now, I can see clearly how much hangs in the balance. Add to that the fact Angela Lansbury doesn't know if the spell will work, or (maybe worse yet) even if it does, she's not quite sure what will happen next and if she can even control it. That's a lot of tension built up at the beginning of this scene. Then when it does come together it does it so masterfully.
But damn, I wish this clip was a little longer and included the soldiers' chant. I mean, DAMN. That was awesome.

I disagree. First of all, this small expeditionary force of the nazis stood no chance at all of conquering England. Second of all, if it WAS important, it would be a battle there would be records of, and it would be listed alongside the battle of the bulge, the battle of britain and D day. There literally was nothing in the balance here. This was an excursion of a small force into the freaking WILDERNESS in the UK for no particular reason. It would have made no difference in the outcome of WWII.

It's more than that, during the German Blitz of England, the British evacuated many of their relics from cities to rural locations like the castle in this movie so they wouldn't be bombed into oblivion. It's also partly why the the children themselves are there, to escape the bombing

Course it being a legendary event and scepticism being what it and all.

It is most likely it has to do with Gauls era of history and seeing the helmet it was probably a chieftain's armor.

Hmm, I didn't think it was the Gauls, because they lived in France.

Well and I could be mistaking, that the Gauls was used for the majority of the western Europe tribes, but like I said not sure and its around the time period where that helmet would fit, plus I have no idea how the Bits were called during that time period.

IIRC "Britons" was originally the (Roman) term for the Celts of Britain that were Brythonic or Goidelic rather than Gaelic. So, they'd have had a language and culture like that of the Welsh and Cornish, but not the Irish and Scots. Arthur was considered a Briton and enemy of the Saxons (which makes the English having him as their folk hero a little ironic). But the Gauls were mainly in France and certainly never came to the British Isles.

Apparently this movie was not very well received on its first conception... too much like 'Mary Poppins' though I can't personally see any resemblance: the fact they end up kicking the Nazi's butts is reason enough for this film to super duper awesome! Its one of my favourite Disney Movies of all time: original story and characters: best scene ever: Historial figures from all around the world stomping out Nazi's... and that is exactly what happened! woo!

+king of coolness I counted: English knights in melee fighting. Possibly some vikings in there as well, sometimes armour makes it hard to tell as a non-history major. English(?) longbowmen providing ranged support. Redcoats were there, but didn't seem to fire their guns... good point!

So there is going to be a Broadway musical of this. This was the first scene I was thinking is "is there going to be a song and dance number of dancing nazis fighting the undead soldiers?"
