How competitive can I be driving in VR . . .

  • Today we're doing something a little different. As some of you may know, I've just got myself a new PC, with much better specs than I had before, and one of the first things I wanted to try out is VR to understand what it's like driving in the virtual world. I've previously tested out eye tracking software, however I wasn't really sold on it. So how will the VR experience stack up, and more importantly, will we be able to be competitive.

    I have been using VR for about 12 months and have found my consistency has improved. And the ability to pick the right braking point off line while battling is much easier

      Yeah, I'm having great fun playing around with it at the moment. Going to try it with iRacing next, just need to get the setup right. I'm trying it on a wet practice, but I can't see any puddles, I can only hear them as I drive through them. Any ideas at all?

      Don’t worry actually, I got it working right now. I have to say though that I felt so motion sick with iRacing for some reason. I don’t know if it’s just because I was driving the green hell tho. I had to stop half way through the lap. I’ll try it on another track when I don’t feel so qweezy 🤢

      @nock-racing try aiming a fan at yourself. For some reason, air flow seems to help

      @@MrbishiCordia Cheers, I'll give that a go - I really want to try it on iRacing, but not if it make me feel rubbish

    VR is something I have slways wanted to try since I started iRacing. Looking forward to seeing how you get on in a race with other people 👍🏻😎

      Had a couple on iRacing this morning in the Ferrari GT3 and it went pretty well. I also tried Nords, but had to abandon it mid lap because it was making me feel sick in the twisty section after the first carousel 🤢

    Great video. I think you FOV is incorrect though - it looks a bit elongated which will throw the corner radius perception off a bit. Might just be the way the screen was recorded though as the corner apexes etc look good. Cool stuff!

      @nock-racing  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks - I’ll have another loo at the FOV next time I strike it up

      @@nock-racing By the way - I changed my FOV with openXR to test something. Within 5 minutes I felt motion sickness. Went back right away as I can race with the correct FOV in VR for hours at a time with no issue at all.

      @@skrems I don’t think I was using openXR, I think it was the oculus, but that’s interesting about the motion sickness. 🤔

    i to have moved to vr, took a while to get it dialled in and running smooth on my system and had to dial the gfx down but man its so immersive.. gonna try it on lfm now that ive adapted to it

      Yeah I have to say I feel a much greater sense of speed using VR. I tried it on iRacing last night at the nordschleife but I had to stop mid lap as it made me feel really sick. Not sure if it’s just that track tho, as I didn’t really have much issue on assetto corsa. I’ll try some more tracks when I get a chance to see

    Great video. I'd highly recomend a new head strap though. Night and day difference. I got an adjustable one and it reduces strain and balances everything out so much better. Something like this, but pick whatever you feel you'll like best... www.amazon.com/Replacement-Kuject-Detachable-Lightweight-Accessories/dp/B092VJKR3M/ref=sr_1_4

      Yeah, the headstrap is getting a bit busted to be fair so I do need to have a look at getting something else. Cheers for the link buddy 👍🏻

    I love vr, but, for one, I do get very hot wearing it! Also, Ive just got a 4k 43" tv, I know my fov still isnt really alot, but if I use vr, feels like the tv is a waste 😭. Maybe it could be something I bring out now and then.

    • @nock-racing
      @nock-racing  3 місяці тому

      Yeah, I’m only running on 25 inch gaming monitor so the FOV is much better in VR for me. Just need to combat slight bit of motion sickness I’ve experienced at times

      @@nock-racing geez nice setup! What cpu cooler are you using?
      Just upgraded my pc as well. Got a 5800x3d from a r5 3600, 2070 super to a 4080, upgraded the ram from 16gb to 32gb, added a 4tb m.2 has laying around, and upgraded the psu from 650w to 1000w. Basically built a brand new pc, but it’s so freaking smooth now!
