I'm 50... And this music is part of my childhood from the 80s... When the 80s TV version of Journey To The West 1st came to S.E Asia from China... Its a TV show that we rush home to watch, forgetting play, forgetting games...

That main melody is basically hard-coded into the DNA of every Chinese/Asian Gen-X. It was the sound of our childhood.

This is ancient Chinese mythology but also based on Chinese Zen/Tao/Philosophy. To appreciate the deeper meanings hidden behind all those details in the game, one could check out the Chinese novel “A journey to the west” or the Chinese Zen Book “How to be Happy: the Wisdom to Attain Happiness and Success by Constructing an Invincible Mind”

Black Myth Wukong's developers put in so much effort into this game. Not only the game, even the music was hell good.

This game has two endings. The bad ending gives you the ending song of 1986 TV series, and that's them telling you you are done. The good ending gives you this opening theme of 1986 TV series, and that's them telling you the new journey begins here, wait for the DLC.

The beloved monkey king is known to be invincible, curious, playful, wild, freethinking, free loving, yet dependable. The symphony is originally written for the 1986 tv series on Journey to the west. It depicts the scenes of the monkey king wrecking a havoc in the heavenly celestial court, hopping, dancing, braking things, intoxicated with magical immortality portioned wine and magical peaches that he has illegally obtained (well, he stole them, essentially), laughing hysterically and and scaring the crap out the proper folks of the court. Then he is given the opportunity for atonement. The monkey king accompanies the monk, and three other fellows on a journey to India to receive scrolls of important Buddhist texts. The journey is full of hardships and threats, but the heroes fight together and finally make it to the garden where they receive the scrolls but also attain enlightenment. I hear the playfulness, silliness of the monkey expressed in this piece, and also hear the diversity of the culture and challenges they face in their journey. Finally, the heroic melody gives a very emotional and glorious climax to thier accomplishments. That very last part that feels hopeful and tender, that part is unique to this arrangement for the game. It is giving hint to how the true ending to this game should feel like😊

Yes this is a boss theme.
The og Chinese theme song of the 1986 live action Journey to the West TV show, and it's also the first piece of electronic music from China. Whole show is absolutely classic & iconic, multiple generations across most of Asia love the show. The marketing of this game is absolutely genius: we're fans of Wukong, you're fans of Wukong, here's a game where you can go on a journey to become your childhood hero, while you listen to the theme song of your favorite childhood tv show. Also the extra unintentional marketing in the Western market: rejecting the $7mil from Sweet Baby Inc to put DEI & the alphabet crowd in an Asian game of Asian mythological characters so thank you SBI for helping Wukong with his "journey to the west."

Imagine Lord of the Rings written in Shakespeare's time so its far more culturally infuential. Then in the 80s they made a TV show with an epic Star Wars level soundtrack with multiple hits.
If you're interested look up the other songs from the 1986 TV series, like Where is the Road, and 500 Years of Mountain and Sea.
