    Cartridge chamber pressure is the same (SAAMI 55,000psi), there is simply a larger volume in the bore due to the larger caliber. This means for every inch of bullet travel, the volume increases significantly faster than a .223 cal barrel. A larger volume occupied by a similar amount of gas results in significantly lower pressures behind the bullet as it travels the length of the barrel. That is why the gas is harvested earlier in the barrel where the pressure is nominally closer to where it would be in a .223. The not often mentioned benefit is a reduction in wear on Gas blocks, keys and rifling due to the lowered pressure related erosion. I know this is essentially what you were saying, but some could misconstrue that there is significant headroom when reloading this cartridge, where there definitely is not.

    Y’all answered my question and then some, thanks! As far as fall goes, Alabama hasn’t gotten the memo that fall has started. I will be super excited when it does, maybe not as much as Sarah, but close. To me fall means football (War Eagle), cold weather, hunting season, bonfires, and jackets (for bigger handguns.) Y’all are awesome, keep up the good work.

    ok, question time, you sell a 16 inch barrel with a carbine gas port. so will this help with making the fire arm shoot softer or better. trying to make a pick to order.

    • @AlphaRomeoOneFive
      @AlphaRomeoOneFive 5 років тому +1

      @@shizims I believe it's just a standard 3oz buffer, can't remember for sure. From everything I've read and personally experienced with BA Hanson barrels, their gas ports are on point so buffer weight isn't as huge of a deal. It's cycled everything perfectly from 110-220 grain. I'm running a Dead Air Sandman S can on it, it's a nasty little setup!

    @ballistic advantage hopefully you can help I have the 8.5 modern 300 blackout barrel and shooting 135 gr fiochi it will not lock the bolt back I have it on a faxon upper with a adjustable gas block wide open with a mill spec buffer and spring, yet it will cycle with 110gr reloads with 18.4-18.9-19.4gr of win296 I don’t want to touch the gas port if I don’t have to . I’m kinda at a loss since I have a 10.5 BCA pistol barrel that will cycle subs which this will not

      Just stay with 1 or 2 bullets weights 125,135, or 147. I cut 4 coils off my buffer spring for similar issues and not mess with gas block and its kicking... Good luck , just late to the party lol

    Where can I learn more about fine-tuning rifles? I have problems with arthritis and shoulder issues and want to find tune my different rifles to make them easier to shoot by reducing recoil and muzzle slip. I e different Power recoil springs vs buffer weights vs. lower Mass bolt carrier groups vs. adjustable gas blocks, Etc thank you. PS the majority of my barrels are ballistic advantage.

    Did you imply that would offer a superlative gas block factory pinned? Also curious on your thoughts of at ear DB changes from just a buffer change out if you have any suppressed at ear metering experience. The gun in question is a 13.7 .750 Hanson barrel, it seems to be conservatively gassed currently there is a Dead Air Sandman K on it.
    Sorry for the ultra specific question when things are case by case.

    So I get the big reasons for pistol gas on 300blk barrels are reliability and accounting for range of projectiles/loads (subs/supers), but if one knew for certain they would only be using supers, on say an 11.5" or 12.5" barrel, would a carbine gas system be on the table, or is that still in the territory of potentially finicky?

    • @BeanoNoir
      @BeanoNoir 5 років тому

      Carbine length tend to only be finicky in my experience when using subs with lower than 200grn bullet weight, or if using commercial ammo, lower than 220 grn bullet weight. There is more than one way to tune a fiddle, going pistol length is just the easiest.

    Can anyone confirm the gas port hole on the 6" 300aac modern series barrel? Did he say ".110 or a little smaller"?

    • @bigger62265
      @bigger62265 2 роки тому

      @@josh2711 Thanks Josh, yes it’s cycling but it’s sort of hit or miss and I def need some more range time with it. .110 should be more than a sufficient size which is also a head scratcher. I installed the 6” with an AP gas block and pistol length tube. Im also using a VLTOR A5 buffer/stock set up. I only shot it suppressed with sub rounds. It would cycle sporadically, sometimes correctly feeding the next round sometimes not. It was about 50/50 on final round bolt hold open. 🤷‍♂️ My first thought was to open up the port hole a little more vs changing buffer weights, but I went ahead and put in a lighter A5 buffer that I have yet to try. I was also getting a pretty consistent ejection between 4 and 5 o’clock. It felt like the sub loads didn’t have enough juice to move the bcg with sufficient force to allow time for ejection and for the next round to properly seat itself. Another range day will hopefully be enough to get it dialed in.

    • @josh2711
      @josh2711 2 роки тому

      @@bigger62265 I haven’t tried subs or suppressed yet, I’ve only ran supers Unsuppressed. But hearing .110 to .120 had me thinking that my gas block probably just wasn’t perfectly aligned. The AP low profile gas block needs about a 3/32 of an inch gap after the shoulder. After I got it lined up enough to lock the bolt to the rear, the AP gas block was flush if not ever so slightly protruding past the smooth barrel onto the threading. I have read that guys have better luck with clamp on gas blocks, but I was able to get the AP to work.

    • @josh2711
      @josh2711 2 роки тому

      @@bigger62265 also I had wondered about bcg and buffers and springs. I took apart all my lowers and used a scale to find the lightest ones. I ended up with a standard PSA bcg, a sig pistol spring, and sig buffer. That still didn’t get a bolt lock for me. Now it functions with a standard PSA pistol lower, and I’m going to build an Aero lower for it at some point.
      The only time I lost reliable cycling was when I put my green hex mags on instead of pmags. I wanted a color difference for 300. Im hoping the cycling problem was caused by a Ruger charging handle that was tight. The handle was also difficult to install in my sig pistol and PSA pistols.
      Edit: the buffer was a 2.9oz carbine buffer
