This video could easily be renamed, “Just bring everything you own! Just in case!” Seriously though. Love your videos. I’ve dabbled with fly fishing in the past, and actually caught my PB largemouth on a cheap cabelas 8wt setup many years ago. Since I moved to Colorado a couple years ago I’ve gone all in fly fishing. Your videos are awesome and most importantly, they make me want to go fish! You’re the man Dan.
Love that, thanks Greg - much appreciated!
Thank you for sharing this.🐟🐟🐟
My pleasure
Hey Dan !!
That the trick, having option !! Diffrents size, color and styles in a loooott of fly box!!!
Fish on 🎣!!
Thanks André! Well said :))
I have so much fun just watching you enjoying yourself. Keep the wonderful content coming.✨️🙏✨️😌👍
Thanks so much!
Match the hatch is a valid tactic, even on still water. While there are flies that will work in most places, most of the time, like leeches and wooly buggers, there are still times when you need to be prepared for a hatch, ie: flying ants or damsel flies etc.
We fished a lake last year during a damsel fly hatch that lasted for the entire three days that we were there. There was approximately 10.7 million adult blue damsels flying around, they were being blown around in the wind and were hanging onto the reeds in huge numbers. At any given moment, we could have a dozen on our rods while trying to cast.
The fish were jumping completely out of the water trying to get the airborne ones so a dry pattern worked well too.
Great feedback and story - sounded like an epic three days!
Your videos are always entertaining and informative! Your personality really shines through in a big way. Most of the lake and stillwater fishing I do is for bass and panfish because those are the predominant species in my area.
Wow, thank you! I appreciate that :))
Can you do a video about stillwater fishing from the bank
Thanks for the video inspiration!
Awesome - thank you FFD!
My pleasure!
Good good tips thanks
You bet!
Leeches and Chronies for the WIN! I would guess that 90+% of the fish I have caught on the fly are on one variation or another of those 2 patterns. I often fish them together.
I've also had good success when fish are higher in the water on a "Washing Line" set up. Almost always on the nymphs, rarely on the F.A.B. or Booby.
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome feedback - much appreciated! I too fish that combo often…I’ve call it the ‘chironoleech’
I use a Hairs Ear and strip it like a streamer. Looks like a fry and gets hammered, especially in ponds
Thanks for advice and sharing. What size chronomids do you typically fish under your indicator?
Thanks! I try to match the floating casing size - it varies a ton. I do prefer the larger snowcone versions.
Now that’s a lot of flys. What percentage of them did you tie.
Thanks - nearly zero. I need to learn that part of this sport.
Whenever I fish from a small boat my line gets all hacked up or tangled when I’m stripping in. How do you avoid this problem? (My name is Paul)
Hi Paul - definitely either a line management challenge or fly line that’s old and holding a coiled up ‘memory’ leading to tangles. Give your line a stretch before using and that will help…keep items in your boat clear of your casting area to help avoid tangles. Hope that helps!
So there I am on a reservoir 50° in the daytime and not a single fishing site in the reservoir looks like glass. What the heck am I gonna do?

OMG fly fishing blasphemy. No dry fly box! No anchor!🤣 Thanks for
the video Dan and great catch and advice.
I know right?!
I was going to say leeches and the very controversial ultralight spoon
I thought I had a lot of flies🤣😂
I go a bit overboard for sure :))
Whenever I fish from a small boat my line gets all hacked up or tangled when I’m stripping in. How do you avoid this problem? (My name is Paul)
Hey Paul - you can get a stripping basket...but usually I just try not to step on my line (not always successful though...)
