- Tombstone Latin Translation
What does the Doc Holiday and Johnny Ringo say to each other when they speak Latin? If you're like me, you have seen the movie "Tombstone" about 100 times. I have always wondered, what do the words mean that they speak in Latin. Curious to know? Me to! Here is what I found while researching my answer.
Enjoy!

+Inspekcja Pracy Holy stank ass shit I just shit myself rolling on the floor!
lmao.
There's actually little bits of folklore in that movie. Stuff that goes way back before the wild west era.
mestopheles369:
An example would be helpful. Without that little bit of effort the only folklore that comes to mind is Midas-though Midas was actually sitting on something, a pile of gold, he might have shared. All we know about you is that IF you have the knowledge you claim to have, you are as stingy as Midas in not sharing that!
I just thought I would share that little bit to stimulate your studies in a new direction and perhaps towards a new and better end-perhaps that form of sharing we call “teaching.” Bye.
Doc: In wine there is truth. (Being drunk makes me tell the truth.)
Ringo: Do what you do. (Being drunk makes you a drunkard / it’s good to stick to what you know best.)
Doc: [This is a quote from the ancient poet Horace] Let the Jew Apella believe it, not me. (Go and tell someone who cares.)
Ringo: Youth is the teacher of fools. (Fools need to learn by experience / Perhaps a fool like you needs someone experienced to teach him a lesson.)
Doc: Rest in peace. (Do what you like, it’s your funeral.
Such a dope exchange! Thanks for watching!
Having watched the video, I decided they were simply spouting statements in Latin they had learned with no particular meaning in mind. Having read your interpretations I understand that it was truly an intelligent dialog. Thank you for having made that clear. I was disappointed to think that it was basically banter with no relevant meaning. I thought it was beneath Doc.
Wow! I love it! It makes their dialogue even more impressive!
YES that's on point right there!!! Hell yeah
@@Wild4 Wow! It makes complete sense now... thank you! Reading the translation alone had me more confused than hearing it in Latin. It made me think they were just speaking Latin gibberish, lol
Val should have gotten an Oscar for doc Holliday.
Totally Agree 💪
Agreed/he delivered an amazing interpretation
I love this role but the Oscar was won by Jack Nicholson in "A few good men" . And that was a great job also.
sparkyguitar 00:
No, Kilmer stole the movie. And every Western aficionado knows it!
Of all the many actors who played Doc he is the only one who brought him to life, the only one who even got close.
Jay Warren Clark: For sure. Other than my favorite actor Peter O’Toole going 0 for 8, Val performance was slighted by the academy more than any other I can think of.
Doc Holliday: In Vino Veritas.
In wine is truth ~Meaning ~
"When I'm drinking, I speak my mind."
Johnny Ringo: "Age Quod Agis."
"Do what you do." ~Meaning~ "Do what you do best." Doc Holliday: Credat Judaeus Apella, Non Ego. "The Jew Apella may believe it, not I." ~Meaning~ "Oh I don't believe drinking is what I do best." Johnny Ringo: "Eventus Stultorum Magister."
"Events are the teachers of fools." ~Meaning~ "Fools have to learn by experience."
Doc Holliday: "In Pace Requiescat."
Rest in peace ~Meaning~ "It's your funeral!"
What u explain is kind of what I was thinking : Johnny Ringo is saying that he, the youth, will be the teacher of fools (Doc Holiday), and the Doc threatens, "It's your funeral" (Rest In Peace). The look in Johnny Ringo's eyes and face, and the pistol play, is meant as a rebuttal to frighten Doc. Then Doc de-escalates the situation by mimicking Johnny Ringo with a cup and making the onlookers laugh at Johnny Ringo.
Also, "The Jew Abella may believe, but not I" must be from some play, I think, but conveys a certain message that would've been understood at the time to anyone who spoke or heard that line.
The best translation to date. Thank you! Makes this scene 1000% more enjoyable now =)
Thank you!
"credat Judaeus Apella, non ego."
is a quote that means "tell your god, not me." (see Philo of Alexandria, aka Philo Judaeus)... It is much darker than modern people realize.
Someone once told me " a dying man is the most dangerous opponent, he's got nothing to lose ". Doc, was deadly with a cough or a gun .
That's a good point. Thanks for watching!
I believe Doc was not taunting Johnny Ringo, but disappointed that he wasn't shot in return, to end his suffering, and spoiling his swan song of sacrifice.
Whether a dying man or people who do not care if they don't make it, Vikings Spartans and others.
Ringo: I was just fooling about. Holliday: I wasn't .
I love that exchange 💪 - Thanks for watching
Best line
The moment he Marked his target....
Although it never happened. It’s just Hollywood hype.
@@alan30189 Oh really? No shit. The movie was never passed off as a documentary. A lot of things in Tombstone didn't or very likely didn't happen.
Apparently Mr ringo is an educated man. Now I really hate him.
Why, Johnny Ringo, you look like somebody just walked over your grave 😝
Love that line... of course I don’t think there is a line in that movie that I didn’t like.
Doc had a way with words, didn't he?
@@Wild4 My brother and I say this shit to each other
Something in the eyes
Don't forget that in the first scene, Ringo translates the bible in Spanish when the Priest is quoting Revelations. It's part of his character that he is well educated and has chosen a life of violence. Somehow, it separates him from the others. A great role for Michael Biehn who starred in Terminator and Aliens, and The Abyss .
Yes, it showed his character as being the equivalent of Doc - but the darker version of him, thus making him a dangerous adversary. Again, brilliant character development and writing. Even the screenplay should've gotten an Oscar.
@@pandapeep1148 Yep. Skywalker vs Vader
@@marcuslong9761 Who vs What?
@@marcuslong9761 like they are both agents of great ability. Ringo is what Doc could have been had he not had good council of character like Earp, he could have been a talented killer, outlaw. But he’s an educated respectable man, who’s got morals haha
Goddamn I love this movie
“Youth is the teacher of fools” equates to “if you don’t get smarter, you’re not going to get any older”. Pretty clearly a threat.
Ed Phillips Actually, the saying refers to older men underestimating youth because of experience blinding them to better physical specimens in their less aged opponents. Where the threshold between veteran vs. novice flips to elderly vs. prime contender, yet the fool doesn’t realize the shift
@@espositogregory Great point
@@espositogregory Ringo was older than Doc so that wouldn't make much sense.
@@espositogregory the saying is quite explicit in its meaning and you got it completely wrong. Youth is the teacher of fools. There's nothing there about underestimating youth there, but there is something about overestimating it. Ultimately, Ringo was 31 and Doc was 30 the year the OK Corral gunfight happened. Hardly a difference in youth or experience. I think Ringo is just saying that the only thing that matters is experience... which makes more significant his next gesture
@@Ralphoifyful I mean, if we're going to talk about reality and "what really happened" and was, Ringo most likely killed himself....and almost certainly wasn't killed by Doc Holiday. The movie seems to lean pretty hard in the direction of Wyatt's group (including Doc) being old/retired but being pulled back in and Ringo is painted as the new young guy eager to prove himself.
Val Kilmer's best role.
100% Yes - He was absolute perfection in it. Thanks for watching 💪
Mike's models 2 yes he played a great roll in this. I read he studied doc holiday even went tombstone and all the west parts to talk to people.
Wild4Games He should been nominated for supporting actor.
I totally agree. He brought the legendary figure to full life.
His best roll was off his bed onto the floor at age 5.
"I got two guns. One for each of ya"
Something I didn't notice at first, but that I've seen mentioned on UA-cam since then, is that when he spins his guns whilst saying that, he spins them in OPPOSITE directions. Fun fact you may not know :o)
One of my favorite lines ❤
Lol to many good words and even some of the things he does .
There were sooooooo many great lines in this film - and Kilmer got all of them. What a juicy role to dig into. He must've been thrilled.
I love that line
It's basically this:
Doc: I hate you
Wyatt: He's drunk, ignore him
Doc: There's truth in wine - i.e. Drunk's don't lie...
Jonny: Do what you do - i.e. You're a drunk and the only thing you're good at.
Doc: Tell it to someone who cares - I don't.
Jonny: Fools need a teacher (pats gun implying he's going to kill him).
Doc: It's your funeral if you start something.
Latin is one of those languages where you really need to take the context of what's going on into account for the most accurate translation.
This translation is much better. In Asian culture, there's a saying. "Alcohol brings out the truth." Basically meaning when you are drunk, the truth comes.
@@JohnSmith-nj4zq Baka shoujiki, , "stupidly honest". The Japanese forgive( in principal )anything said to them by others, whilst drunk. The equivalent of the Latin " In vino veritas.".
the truth in wine means that you speak the truth more when drunk and lose. i've done it by accident before my self lol.
Thanks for the post. I wondered about what they were saying, though I knew Docs first and last lines. I took Latin in high school, but that was 60 years ago
Basically Ringo sees Doc as a piece of shit, and Doc disagreeing
Don't think anyone will ever top Kilmer's portrayal of Doc.
I agree his performance was legendary!
Tombstone. One of the best and most underrated movies in the history of cinema. Val Kilmer was robbed of an Oscar nomination.
You cantvvwin if not nomonated
Aso,whats a langer, what is mentioned many times in movie.
Best cowboy movie ever .kurt Russell, one for the ages also
who were the other actors who got nominated?
Val is and was a heavily underrated actor. I always loved the guy and his movies.
Thanks for watching
The "Saint" remake is good , the voice of the original Saint ,Roger Moore at the end of the film was a great nostalgic twist.
Doc holiday played by val kilmer, an intelligent, educated, complex physically and mentally challenged character that intrigued the hell out of viewers.Ive watched all the classics and will say his portrayal of doc holiday is one of the most powerful performances in the era
The only phrase that matters :
*"I'm your Huckleberry."*
Vaccinium tuum sum.
Say when is better
Heck Ya
“Your a daisy if you do”
“My hypocrisy goes only so far”
Doc Holliday knew he was dying of "consumption" (tuberculosis) I believe that whenever he went into a gunfight, he had absolutely no fear of being shot dead. Therefore, his hands were steady, and his aim was true. He died in bed, which was what he feared most.
Thanks for the comment - You might enjoy my other video on Doc ( ua-cam.com/video/T_yyEb5fMJ8/v-deo.html ) 💪
It's also worth to note the significance of him being barefooted in his death bed. He always thought he'd die with his boots on. Hence, the ending line, "I'll be damned."
Cry Havoc your right he was a lunger
He actually died from kidney failure but his death certificate says tuberculosis. He had been diagnosed with it for quite sometime. Which apparently led to other organs being directly affected. So I guess in reality that's why TB was pronounced as cause of death.
He also had to the love of his life leave him ( his cousin ) which made him reckless and not gaf
One of the best movies ever-- The Cast was fantastic.
Agreed - I loved this film 💪
Wild4Games best damn movie ever soo many fantastic mustaches and moments
My favorite movie. It came up next to play on prime and here i find myself watching for the 100th time. Came here cause I never knew what they were saying
One of my favorite if not my favorite
Yes n w the sound effects they have now days it was just fantastic! When they come hiding the horses at the beginning!! Wow! I can watch it over n over!
Why Johnny Ringo.....you look like somebody just..walked over your grave. That line sends a shiver down my back every time!
It's an Easter Egg. Johnny Ringo was actually buried right there under that oak tree near Pearce, AZ. As Doc said this line Ringo was walking right over the spot where he would be buried a couple days later.
“I was just kiddin’ is all....”
“I wasn’t.... and this time, it’s legal”
Johnny knew what was coming....you can get a sense that he knew it all along
You scare easy.
"Say When"
Somewhere around watching this movie for the 800th time, I started to gain appreciation for the look of sheer befuddlement on Morgan's face. lol gets me every time now.
Actually Johnny Ringo was believed to educated in a mission after the death of his father. The missions were run by Roman Catholic Priests and Sisters. Latin is a traditional language spoken in the early Roman Catholic Church and it's missionary schools.
Fascinating thanks for the heads up!
True. I was in Catholic High Schol in 1961and Two Years of Latin were required before any other Language. Not a boarding school either.
Latin was definitely taught in schools back then and especially to children getting a Catholic education, My father was born in 1910 and he spoke Latin fluently - as he was taught in school and as a Vatican I Catholic. It was not uncommon back then at all. Latin was still offered in school up into the late 1970s, early 1980s in some regions in the U.S. I think it's made a comeback in recent years but, for a long time, it was rare for anyone not studying medicine or law to take it.
Us Roman Catholics still learn and practice Latin today
Didn't help him from being gunned down by Doc!
Johnny Ringo was extremely intelligent. And he spoke Latin and along with a few other languages. They records of it in the city of Tombstone. They actually thought he might have had schizophrenia and he drank heavily during his episodes. He actually would have performed intellectual battles than with his gun because he was a slow draw. I learned this on a tour in Tombstone
Interesting thanks for sharing!
No matter what the translation, the intent is quite clear.
Come at me bro!
One of my favorites movie ever I can watch this movie over and over, absolutely a western master piece,Val should have won the oscar, thanks for the video.
Amen
I am no expert in Latin, but I have studied it. I think there are some problems with this dialog.
In vino veritas.
Age quod agis.
Credit Judaeus Apella, non ego.
Iuventus stultorum magister.
In pace requiescat.
The translation is provided by Donald H. Mills of Syracuse University and Keyne Cheshire of UNC.
In wine there is truth.
Do what you do.
Let Apella the jew believe, not I.
Youth is the teacher of fools.
May he rest in peace.
In explanation,
Line 1: Although Wyatt tries to excuse Doc's aggressive attitude with "He's drunk", Doc assures Ringo that he means what he says despite being drunk.
Line 2: This seems intentionally ambiguous. Ringo is telling Doc to do what he does, perhaps challenging him with "Are you a drunk, or a gun fighter?" Something like "Go for it!", or "Throw down!".
Line 3: Doc responds with a well known line from a satire by an ancient Roman writer, Horace, which literally means "Appella the Jew believes, but I don't", (the "let") is inserted in the translation. Figuratively, this phrase means "Tell it to someone else." Perhaps Doc is saying "You draw your gun first" or "stop talking and draw your gun" or "I don't care what your saying, let's just fight."
Line 4: I don't believe that Ringo is using this line the way it was meant to be used by a Latin speaker. I think he means something like "I, as a young man, will teach you, the fool." However, I think it would more likely be taken to mean that "a young person is a fool that needs to be taught by experience." You can see how the English translation might be taken either way, but seems unlikely to me to be meant the way Ringo used it in this context.
Line 5: There is no word for funeral in this line as some suggest below. "It's your funeral" is an entirely figurative translation. Nor does it mean "Let him rest in peace". Instead, it means literally "He rests in peace." I have to ask "whom are they talking about?" "Who is 'He'?" I am no expert, but I think it was a mistake by the writers. I think the writers of the script meant Doc to be telling Ringo to rest in peace, as if it were a foregone conclusion that Ringo will die, so he is already dead. If Doc were saying this, he would have said "requiesce" not "requiescat".
Wow, thanks for that! I've never studied Latin, but I enjoy learning at least a little about it as it helps navigate the often idiosyncratic English language. Same goes for Greek
Why,...you're an educated man,....should I hate you?
Brilliant!
When Doc muttered In vino veritas, I don't think he was addressing Ringo at all, it's just a snide remark to amuse himself. He probably thought Ringo was just another uneducated, illiterate thug like Ike. He was quite surprised that Ringo was an educated man.
this. You can see a brief moment of surprise in Doc's face when Ringo not only understands what he is saying but also gives an quick throwback.
"Are you a fan of the movie Tombstone?"
WHO DAFUQ ISN'T??
was that latin?
@@antiscyllisneocht5669 LMAO
The Left.
indeed, how could a person not be?
@@antiscyllisneocht5669 more like French colloquialism as in, "pardon my French!" when someone is cussing and basically asks for forgiveness!!! Just thought I would add my five cents worth of opinion, which altogether is actually only a nickels worth of thought!!!
Fun fact, Wyatt was still alive when Marrion Morrison (John Wayne) started acting. He actually consulted on some of the old westerns, in the early days of film, and allegedly on at least one of John's first movies.
Wyatt Earp died in 1929.
John Wayne started acting in 1930 a year after Wyatt Earp’s death
@@jonathanrowan8977 Wayne was working as a stage hand and extra on John Ford movies, Wyatt frequented sets where Ford was shooting and that's when Wayne and Earp became acquainted.
What's really fascinating is how Wyatt overlapped two very different eras.
Ringo was self-educated & rode with "epic" novels in his saddlebags. Doc was formally educated, both in military schools & in secondary education with his uncle, where he obtained his DDS. I like to think that Doc was a Noble Man, but he exhibited some poor qualities before he went out West. it was Val's amazing performance that made so many fall in love with Doc. I don't believe that I'd love Tombstone as much without Val.
"I'm your huckleberry" is my favorite.
grumpybill ,, what does that mean??
@@johnsadar1743 "that" is a four letter word and is used to identify.
john sadar it means "I’m the man for the job”.
Huckle Bearer (pallbearer)
@SaltyBrains Most people referencing “Huckle Bearer” are making the claim that it’s a double entendre. Huckleberry and Huckle Bearer are nearly homonyms. The point is, it simultaneously means “I’m the man for the job” and “I’ll send you to your funeral”. Only the script writer can dispel this as a possibility, as it’s quite possibly one reading of the meaning.
His lines in the whole movie are like hooks of a song. Memorable Quotes everyone of them...
Hadn't thought about it in terms of a song before that's interesting. Thanks for sharing!
My grandmother graduated from a small country high school (Silsbee TX) in 1924. She earned a certificate in Latin. They were still teaching Latin! Our education has been going down hill ever since.
I graduated in 1996 in podunk NC. I took 4 yrs of Latin. If your measurement of education is Latin offerings, then we haven't declined at all.
@@jesseblanchard9609 I graduated in 2006, and by my time, Latin was no longer offered in my school. Most of my ability to understand Latin, is because I speak Spanish fluently.
My mother has taught in school since 1987, and she has seen our education system drastically go downhill. Many of the kids graduating high school, would have a lot of difficulty passing a test that would have been given in the seventh or eighth grade years ago.
I have worked correcting papers for university students, and many of the university students can hardly put together a coherent paper.
We have some students that get accepted into the University level of education, whom have never been taught to be fluent readers.
Why the fuck would you need to know a dead language like Latin? If anything, the education system has objectively improved.
That does not speak well for your level of education if you have to use the *F" word to get your point across .
The best translation I've ever seen
Doc: in wine there is truth
Ringo: Do what you do
Doc: why don't you tell someone who gives a damn
Ringo: maybe I should take my 45 out and teach you a lesson
Doc: it's your funeral
Holiday would have killed him, Wyatt Earp once said the deadest man with a gun is Doc Holiday.
@@cat-lw6kq I believe it, Holiday was an honest to God killer.
@oldedude51 you're right of course, however I was trying to get at what Ringo ment to say. That brings up an interesting point, did Ringo misspeak? Or is he not as educated as he thinks he is. Either way it's a badass scene.
@@m-catparanormalresearch5569 I'm assuming when you ask about Ringo's dialogue if he misspoke, you're talking about his line "Age quod agis?" The direct translation is Do what you do or come as you are in the old and modern latin, however its meant as a turn of phrase.
So when he says that he's
1. Referencing Doc's line (In Vino Veritas) and
2. him both being drunk and being a drunkard, essentially saying "Do what you do best" which Ringo states is drinking and nothing more.
This makes Doc's line even bolder as his is basically saying "We both know drinking is not what i do best" hinting at the fact that since Ringo knows him well enough to know his name like that, then he obviously knows his reputation.
Ringo then says his line (essentially saying Events are the teacher of fools) which can be read as him saying "If you wanna learn the hard way, so be it!"
Which leads the the final line uttered by Holliday (Rest in Peace) basically saying, as you stated, "Its your funeral!"
I love the back and forth banter between these characters. Its so intense and satisfying! 😊
A more likely translation that actually fits the gesticulations of the scene, unlike the gobbledygook of this videos translations.
Whenever I see this scene, I notice how everyone is sweating. Had to be a hot day with no A/C in AZ. Hats off to this cast for making an epic scene for the ages.
Epic scene, epic characters, and one epic film. Thanks for sharing!
Doc for sure since he was running fever with his illness.
The way Doc intensely almost whispers "In pace requiescat" is so chilling and intimidating.

I love that shot of Morgan Earp trying to figure out if the Latin banter is lighthearted or not

It is true that not much is known of Johnny Ringo's past. I currently speak 4 languages, three of them very well. While I lay no claim to any of it I have been called scholarly, well read and even a renaissance man. My official School record ends at the eighth grade. Beyond that, I am self-taught, so while little is known of Ringo's education, never assume him to be classically uneducated. Never underestimate the drop out.
Good point! Thanks for watching and for sharing!
When you are a confrontational guy you can tell his character projects a vibe of uncertainty and at the same time security on what he is capable to do that makes you doubt about yourself. This is how good his role was.
Interesting insight thanks for sharing!
Another reason I loved the latin-speaking theme in this movie is that it bolsters the writings of Louis L'Amour. L'Amour pointed out in several of his novels, that a fair percentage of men in the old west were very well-educated. "Doc" Holliday was one. He had a certification in dentistry and education in studies of classic literature. I dumb person could not have achieved this. This perspective gives the lie to movies like Blazing Saddles wherein western settlers were portrayed as ignorant buffoons, by and large.
BTW: "Doc" Holliday was a brilliant card player, lightning with a gun, and totally fearless, according to Wyatt Earp, and he would know!
Why would you reference Blazing Saddles as inaccurate? It was a parody, a satire--where stereotypes are exaggerated for comedic purpose. Nothing intended to be historical or truthful, completely different genre. The comparison here is nonsensical. Your point would make sense if you referenced a movie that tried to be accurate and dramatic but failed because of the stereotypes and not reference a movie that intentionally bloated the stereotypes to support the farcical comedy it was intended to be.
L'Amour was also one of the last people to see one of the old breed of gunfighters show off his skills. Bill Tilghman took L'Amour and his brother out and "showed them how it was done with a six-gun" by splitting playing cards edgewise while drawing and firing from the hip.
Interestingly enough Roland the gunslinger from Stephen Kings dark tower series is a very well educated man speaking 5 languages and deadly with his guns from a post apocalyptic waste land, almost a mirror image in some of these respects
@@JM-db8ez here's why you are wrong ( even though i can tell you're one of those people who thinks he or she the smartest person in whatever room he/she happens to be in)-just like the late-night lefties, who mask their anti-american left-wing propaganda bullshit in comedy-though they may be exaggerated , they're still designed to imprint stereotypes in the minds of the indoctrinable
However....
Genuine frontier gibberish is genuine.
That's why he said oh Johnny you were just to high strung while Johnny was dying

Thanks Bro.!! I Appreciate this A Lot.. I Always Wonder What they Said too each Other.. Loved Ur other Videos about Tombstone explaining what Something’s Meant..
Thank you..been wanting to know for years what they said
Glad I could help out :)
Good idea to cover this scene, and you did it well.Thanks.
Thank You very much.
Thank you for this!! Tombstone is one of my favorite movies also, it's so awesome!
Mine too!
I’ve watched a few of your videos and now after this one I subscribed.
Great video man! I especially liked having subtitles for both old and new latin. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching. 👍
One of my top ten movies of all time and that’s saying a lot for a movie buff like myself. Definitely Val Kilmer’s best role and my favorite of his!
high praise indeed. it's a fun movie
Val kilmer was so robbed not winning an oscar for this. His performance is flawless & he makes the movie. A friend of mine saw the film & loved doc so much he bought a t shirt of val as doc w/ " I'm ur huckleberry " written on it. Other than al pacino as micheal corleone & heath ledger as the joker I've never seen a more mesmerizing performance where the actor totally emerges himself in the character.
Also micheal biehn as ringo was terrific in this as well. I did not even realize at first he was reese in terminator. I guess his dark hair & dark facial hair & also getting so into the role I did not recognize him til the credits.
Bad ass man.
Keep up good work!!
"apparently, Mr. Ringo is an educated man. Now I really hate him."
Love that line :P
Ringo: events are the teachers of fools
Doc: it's your funeral
Great Movie and thank you for letting me know what was said, I always wondered!!!
Jack Johnson: Hell, I've got lots of friends.
Doc: I don't.
I totally nailed the translation :"Come on Boys we don't want any trouble in here not in any language."
The fact that's it's unexpected for a western outlaw to know Latin I think was sort of the point of showung Ringo speaking Latin.
Especially since it seems they're quoting sayings.
Great video, thanks for breaking us off, I was always curious. You have a subscriber.
Awesome man, I really have always wondered as well, thanks!
Happy to help! Thanks for watching!
Doc's Latin quote "Rest in Peace" is foreshadowing events to come for Johnny Ringo...that's why Johnny Ringo looked at him the way he did...he know it wasn't for show, since no one but the two of them understood what was being said.
Doc don't mess around! One of my favorite characters!
One more thing is Holiday practiced dentistry in tombstone. That was his profession to begin with. He also practised in Dallas before moving on to the honored profession of gambler and, gun slinger. Lol.
Thanks for sharing the info 💪
Everywhere he tried dentistry, his practice was ruined almost as soon as it began... once his patients discovered that he had TB.
That painting you’re working on is gorgeous!!
Great info. I'm a new subscriber. Love your channel.
doc wouldve learned latin due to his dental (medical) training
Good point thanks for sharing!
Simply Badass...nuff said.
Thankyou for making this video.
Ty, been wondering about this since the movie came out.
I love this movie.
Yeah - One of my favorites too 💪
I bought it at a Walmart for $5.00. Now that's a daisy of a deal.
thanks love doc in that movie seen his grave when lived in glen woods springs
Yes thank you for that 😊 I was always really interested and impressed when I heard that in the movie makes a lot more sense thanks again your the best
Thanks for watching
Interesting. Glad I found this channel.
Thanks for watching :)
and in Spanish it is translated: "vatos locos forever"
Ha ha ha - Nice 😝
That's not Spanish at all, the word “VATO” does not exist in the Spanish language please feel free to check online with the Royal Spanish Academy.
The Royal Spanish Academy is the official royal institution responsible for overseeing the Spanish language. It is based in Madrid, Spain, but is affiliated with national language academies in 22 other hispanophones countries. That is just a made out word for semi illiterates that they think they speak Spanish.
+Malignus Totalis have you ever seen the movie blood in blood out 18 Times the word vato is said and if you live at the ghetto everyone says vato to you
haha
Abel Jimenez C'mon men thtas not spanish that is shit mexican slang that only mexicans understand because you dont speak proper spanish.
Come on the best line in that movie by far is "I'm your huckleberry".
It's "I'm your hucklebearer." Old term for pallbearer.
@@tomservo5347 Dead wrong. Val Kilmer stated over and over the script confirmed it is Huckleberry. Stop spreading that fable.
Wow, thank you for translation! I, too wondered what they were saying.
Val Kilmer and Stephen Lang. Best roles in that flick.
Eso piesto dos sombreos las pintas. It was common to learn Latin in High School right on up till the 1960s.
I took a semester of Latin in my HS back in 2000, but yea, no one really cared for it. Even the teacher would say it was a dead language..wish I would have paid more attention, it just sounds cool😄
He was renowned for his hot temper thou.
Nice, I've always wondered and found this vid by accident. Will subscribe to hopefully see more interesting tidbits from eclectic souces
Thanks! Always wanted to know that!❤✌
Happy to help! Thanks for watching!

Age quot ages = Do what you do; that is, focus on what you are doing, mind what you are doing.
--He's drunk. --In vino veritas = There is truth in wine; that is, drunk people tell the truth (after someone points out he's drunk).
Requiescat in pace = May he begin to rest in peace; that is, may he rest in peace--dead.
You dont need an education to memorize a few set phrases in Latin. They are not conversing in Latin. They are merely dusting off their small Latin phrase repertoire.
A drunk will speak the truth with no inhibitions and thoughts of what he's saying..but truthfully I don't think you have what it takes...some are teachers and others are tought and theirs only 1 way to stand on that hill to sort the wheat from the chaff...here and now is not the time...be patient Ladd...death is coming soon for the both of us..Doc.was the living dead and he knew it...he was on a timer..nothing to live for but UNGER his last dental extraction...from the world.. God sent his best for the job and the devil sent a copy that needed to be stopped...there's always someone better...
I think you may be the most accurate.
@@teddyhailey3035 Nobody was faster...just ask Jack Beauregard.
Good vid, i was curious about what was said myself.
Forgot all the latin i was taught at school many moons ago.
