Hello! Love your channel! In uk they don't have cement all so I'm struggling to make my vessels - they keep seeping through :( I do all the steps and use white portland cement with sealant. Any idea what I may be doing wrong?
Hi! Pur cement you don't want to use. You want it mixed with sand that helps the sturdiness of the container. I would try a mix of the cement and some sand to see if that helps:)
I’m no expert but don’t think you can use just any kind of concrete for candle making as some of them contain additives to fortify the mix and can be dangerous if exposed to fire. They can create fumes that you unknowingly breath. Cement All contains Methanal. To make concrete you just need cement, water, sand and sometimes gravel. For a candle container cement and sand should be enough.
Hi! That's why I say in all my videos to make sure you are testing your own containers. I personally use cement all, have tested it out, and have not had any issues. I allow my containers to cure and apply a sealant over it before pouring the candle. Im just sharing my tips :) thanks for your comment!
@@WizeOwlCandles I understand and I don’t mean to be a pain, is just that when a person sells products to the public they (or the company) is liable for any harm the products have caused even if they didn’t know it was not safe. Great video and helpful information. Is it necessary to seal the container with polyurethane if using it for a candle? I’ve tested it without and haven’t noticed any wax leakage.
It isn't necessary if you are testing and there is no leaking. :) I don't use polyurethane, I use Polycrylic. But you don't need to if your containers aren't leaking :)

Hi, Kala You said you leave the concrete for about 24 hours to cure and then apply the sealer. Then, after another few hours, you pour the wax. --My question is, doesn't the concrete have to be fully dry before sealing it? I, for one, wait 4 to 6 days for my concrete vessels to dry, and only then do I apply the sealer. It would be great to eliminate the drying stage and have my candles ready faster. Thanks a lot. BTW, I've read all the comments to see if someone has asked this question before. 🤣

That being said, I don’t know the dangers (if any) of the additives in those cement mixes. By the way, I love your videos I’m just extremely particular about safety and liability 😉
Totally understand! I appreciate the comment :) personally I have tested out the cement all in hundreds of candles - testing the heat exposure among other things and it has been safe on my testing. Always do your own testing and research tho I always say!
Thanks for watching :)
you raise a good point that I hadn't thought of 🤔I even wonder now if the sealants might produce unsafe vapors / fumes.
Container is not exposed to fire but to heat. It is a difference. Concrete mixture should be just for interior uses
Also, what sealer do you recommend?
I use a water based sealant called Polycrylic
after the container has set after 3 hours, do you apply the sealer automatically after or how long should someone wait before adding the sealer minimum?
I usually wait at least 24 hours :)
What is the best sealant that you recommend?
Hi! I actually posted a video about this today! -
ua-cam.com/video/91bsZAgU8yo/v-deo.html
Great video and helpful information. Is it necessary to seal the container with polyurethane if using it for a candle? I’ve tested it without and haven’t noticed any wax leakage.
It isn't necessary if you are testing and there is no leaking. :) I don't use polyurethane, I use Polycrylic. But you don't need to if your containers aren't leaking :)
@@WizeOwlCandles Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I meant Polycrylic and not polyurethane (auto-correct got me). I'll continue to test without applying Polycrylic - trying to keep my brand and candles as organic as possible.
@@TonicMercantile I totally get it. I am testing out some new sealants so I will post about it if they work well :) trying to come up with some other options
@@WizeOwlCandles awesome - will look for that video! I"m going to test boiled linseed oil (you can get it at Lowes/Home Depot). It's safe and organic. I've used it to seal cedar planks I used to create elevated garden beds and it worked out great. It does take a while (1+ days) to dry though.
hi! I bought the cement all brand today and tried it out for the firs time with my molds. I bought the green one (it says rapid set concrete), but it looks like you use the blue? There are some small rocks in it which make it harder to pour.. is yours like that?
I use the blue because it doesn't have the rocks :)
@@WizeOwlCandles ah okay, they actually didn't turn out bad with the one I used.. couldn't tell there were rocks.. but I'll deff try the blue out when I buy next, thanks!
@@patrickconnelly1158 that's awesome!
Thank you for sharing.

A quick question: my vessels weren’t made by me but I notice the color in the inside turns brown after I pour my coconut wax and it hardens, is there any way to prevent this or like can I still add extra sealant to save the rest of the concrete vessels??
I spend so much money (first time starting a business and making candles) on my first bundle but now you have given me the courage to make my own in the future! Thank you for this!
Hi! Thanks for watching :) I'm not sure if it is the wax as I have not used coconut before. However you can try to seal the inside again if it is not sealed already and test it out. Testing is going to be your best friend to be honest.
I am so glad my channel has inspired you! ♥️ Keep going!
What can we use other than CementAll? Any recipe? I need some things that quick dry please, if u know how to do it please make a video 🙏
Hi! Thanks for watching! Currently I don't have any recipe or other Concrete that I have personally used however I am looking at other options as far as mixing a concrete mix and if this goes well hopefully I will be able to post a video soon about it!
Does the cement all come already mixed or you mix it with sand?
Cement all is already premixed :)
@@WizeOwlCandles thank you very much
Thank you for this video very helpful 🤍

Hello, do you lubricate silicone molds with oil before pouring concrete?
I personally don't have to lubricate them. I have heard of people using vegetable oil :)
I'm part of a Facebook group and they keep saying they soak them in water to make them stronger? Is that necessary you think?
I personally don't. But I will be making a video on this to see if there is a difference :)
Are there any toxic fume concerns with the cement sealer or the acrylic paint when heated by a candle?
Hi! I have tested out my containers with both acrylic paint and the sealer. Nothing comes off during the burning the candle :) also I use 100% soy wax so the wax doesn't get as hot as paraffin. That may help as well!
Hi, my vessel was great, but after 4 or 5 days it cracked by it self, I have no idea why?
Oh no! I would recommend keeping your containers to dry in a cool place not humid at all or too hot. Also be sure not to use too much water as this can cause shrinkage as the container drys. :) Hope this helps!
How many candles do you think can be made with a 25lb cement all box?
Depends on the mold. I would say I've been able to get 50 -60 of the cylinder molds out of the 50 pound bag
Thank you!
What sealant do you use ? Great video by the way
Hi! I use Polycrylic
Inside and outside?
Thank you thank you
You're welcome!
Hii, I already make like 5 terrazzo concrete coaster with white cement. It came out really smooth! but once I sand it, it appear a looooooot of tiny hole. I already tried to put less water and its just the same 😢 Can I have an advice please?
Hi! I haven't personally made terrazzo yet but I eiuld say try stirring the concrete more before pouring to release bubbles and see if that helps :)
@@WizeOwlCandles Alright, thank you ! Will try it tonight 💖
how do you make grey concrete become white? in Cyprus we only have grey concrete
Hi! You can purchase titanium dioxide and this will give you the white color :) I have a video on my channel covering this. The link is also in the description box for this. Hope that helps!
Una pregunta, le pones a tus moldes algún tipo de aceite o desmoldante antes de verter tu mezcla ? Saludos desde 🇲🇽
Sorry I am not able to translate.
@@WizeOwlCandles he is asking if you coat your moulds with some oil or something else before you pour the cement.
@@oldbexleysoapco.8500 Thank you! I don't coat the mold prior to pouring the cement
Do you weight the 4:1 ratio or just eyeball it?
The 4:1 ratio is recommended by the manufacturer. I've measured it so many times I personally eyeball the consistency at this time
Hello, What do you for concrete? Because my concrete need 6-7 days to hard. Where is it problem? Im so sad :(
I use cement all :)
What sealant are you using ??
Hi! I am using polycrylic a water based sealant. I have seen other good ones like earth safe and Rutlands used as well
Is a water-based acrylic sealer good?
Yes that is what I use :)
Hey,what if we make it with black cement. Will it lead to the cement container to crack with the heat of the wax?
I've never tried black cement but you xan try! I recommend concrete though not just cement. So mix sand in if it is just black cement :)
@@WizeOwlCandles what should be the ratio of sand and cement
What sealer do you recommend? My candles are seeping through 😭😭
I use Polycrylic. Best one for me
I just saw the rest of your videos, they are amazing! Thank you so much! 🥰
Thanks for watching ♥️
thank you so much for the helpful video! :-) how do you avoid cracking on the bottom of the cement mold? and also what do you use to apply a design on the planters?
Hi! Cracking on the bottom I would say just make sure you aren't using too much water in the mixture and pouring enough on the bottom to meet the top of the mold.
For the design, I actually have my own stencils I use
Kala is there any chemical which can enhance cement strength?
I'm sure there is. I just never had to use it with my products
Awesome tips !
Thanks! I'm glad it helped:)
I get holes in the cement when I take them out of the mold
Try tapping the sides of the container and getting all those air bubbles out when pouring :)
Try tapping on the sides of the mold during pouring to help release the air bubbles :)
Hi, Kala
You said you leave the concrete for about 24 hours to cure and then apply the sealer.
BTW,
I've read all the comments to see if someone has asked this question before. 🤣
Hi! Currently right now I wait 24 hours before applying sealer then another 24 hours to pout the wax. I personally haven't seen a difference in structure waiting more days.
I hope that helps! :)
@@WizeOwlCandles Thank you! 🤗
hi.. can you please tell about sealers
I personally use Polycrylic. A lot of people have their own personal preference :)
Hi, do you have a problem with the wax discoloring your vessels?
I don't with the sealer I use. I have been doing two coats and when the candle is done it doesn't have any discolor :)
@@WizeOwlCandles
Thank you 😊
How do I wipe the containers to give them a clean finished look (after pouring the wax)
You can wipe the containers with a wet washcloth. :) Thanks for watching!

Hello, I made a cement flower pot, but after I added dirt and planted the plant, within 24 hours the container cracked, what caused that? Note that I did not use sand with the mixture
Iam sorry, I could not understand your words because my listening language is weak
It could be just the cement used. I used cement only and it didn't work out. Cracked and was weak. You want concrete or a sand mix with cement
@@WizeOwlCandles i use the construction cement only with water
@@WizeOwlCandles thank you
For flower pots, you need to leave it to ‘cure’ for at least a week, otherwise it will crack easily due to the moisture.
When to squeeze it? Right after you unmold it or after its totally set?
When you squeeze test it I would say let it sit for a few days after applying the sealant. Just to test the strength
@@WizeOwlCandles thanks a lot
Absolutely!
Do you water cure your pots?
No I have tested it out and I personally didn't see a difference in strength.
Thanku😌
