For him to have interwoven "I Want You" with it is amazing!! Having been a fan for well over 40 years now, I continue to fall in love with this man, his music, and his blessed spirit every year. I saw Santana in Nashville, TN in the 70's and he was playing a white Fender strat at the time and he hit a note and set the guitar in a stand, walked off stage for a few minutes and came back out and picked up the guitar picked up on the note and started playing. Talk about sustain! It set the crowd on fire. One of the all time great concerts I have ever seen. Best guitarist on the planet!
Yeah, and he doesn't need to work the volume control up to hold the note on the PRS like he had to back when he was playing those 500 pound Yamahas in the 70's
No he CANT outplay any "technical master". Look/listen at his style. He's all feeling! Technical guitarist cant get the emotion out his guitar like carlos can. Carlos is one of a kind and i dont know where the world would be without him.

We opened for Carlos years back and he would walk around the stage in sound check and find out where the guitar had that perfect feedback and he would mark the floor with an X n a few spots with tape and while he was playing the show he knew right where to stand to get that sustain to hold. He probably has it down to an art form these days but thats what he did in 1979.

Ben, Mr. Santana's playing affects different people in different ways. I was raised up in the 60's, 70's and some of the 80's so my take on his playing comes a totally different mindset.
"There are simply two kinds of music, good and bad". Attributed to Duke Ellington and many others. I think that applies to styles as well. And as we used to say in the late 60s "Different strokes for different folks. It is also said our favorite music, all our lives is the kind we grew up with as teenagers. Which is not to say the ONLY kind ;-)
This man IS my idol, HE is the reason why I wanted to learn how to play guitar and his songs are my motivation to keep playing. I would really love to meet him, but I'm afraid if i do, I would faint for at least 20 or 30 minutes.

I am mad at myself for not discovering Carlos Santana sooner . This version of Europa is very good . His backups when absolutely perfect . They were totally in sync to the song with every move Santana did . I don't think we'll ever see anyone quite this good.
My friend introduced me to Santana in the early 70's while playing in a band as High School seniors. I have been a fan ever since, love his music, play some of his instrumentals on the guitar at home, and there is something he has that I have not felt listening to any other artist. His music is alive and has soul as opposed to flashy and more technically sound playing that lasts for a few minutes.
Carlos is my hero...been listening to him since 1974...of all his music, this song still sends chills down my spine...hearing it live is like a religious experience!

This kind of music is not about technic, that's why Carlos is unique. If you talk about Beethoven, then we take a seat and analyse all notes, bridges... But, talking about Santana is heart, soul, feeling and emotion. Though I'm sure he could outplay any "technical master", as you stated, anytime and anywhere. Just there isn't a reason for it. He fits exactly where he should fit.
