    Europa, also known as Gia, is the Earth Mother. THIS is Santana's tribute to the Earth itself! It's so awesome when you consider the feeling he's putting into this song and what he's dedicating it to. Viva Santana y Europa y Gia.

      Yes, I really dig this version - and the entire show! (bought the dvd a dozen years ago after having borrowed it from the public library a few times). The musicianship and groove all through the gig, on all hands, is simply spectacular!

    Got hit by a wave of pure emotion at 1:51 and started crying, haha.... man, Santana is just incredible in how he makes his guitar sing.

    In reality, Carlos Santana has done very well for himself over the years, he's really nothing to prove, sad though he divorced his sweetheart Debra, this is never easy... This is a guy who in his early twenties was touring the world, literally 100's of countries, for his talent and gifting were demanded globally by literally millions of people. Santana band chemistry makes all the difference, Chepito Areas, Graham Lear, Armando Peraza, Kermode, Rauch, Koster, Rollie...are all sorely missed!

    It's not how many notes you can play it's all about making people feel. I love shredding but I'll take feeling over shredding any given day. Santana is awsome!

    O final desta interpretação de Europa com Santana e Shorter é a música, linda por sinal, Ponta de Areia de Milton Nascimento do Brasil do Álbum MINAS e Native Dance de Wayne Shorter com participação de Milton Nascimento!

    Santana plays this without much thought for Wayne Shorter and that's a shame, but it's one of the great instrumentals of modern popular music and any playing of it is an entertainment. good stuff.

    It is tribute to one natural satelite - look in wiki. Santana often says a story about it sub title (Earths cry Heavens smile) but EUROPA - it is a satelite ( like moon to our planet).

    There's a Pori Jazz performance, "Elegant People". Magnificent and Patrice is on keyboards. Wayne paid him back or vice versa.

    My friend you should check out Lotus, it features live renditions of pieces from the albums you've mentioned in exception to Borboletta! I've never tired of Lotus, always something new in that album each time I hear it; also recorded live in Japan!!!

    As good as santana is Wayne Shorter is a legend and carlos is a good enough band leader that he should know to let wayne play a little bit

      This was the very last song of the night, the final encore, and Wayne had pulled off a long, blistering solo on the track just before, "Deeper,. Dig Deeper" (solos by nearly everyone in the band on that one). I have the dvd of this spectacular show...you can clearly see that they are dripping with sweat as they walk off the stage at the end of "Deeper" after something like 2½ hours of ferocious playing on stage.

    @Rrrrobert808 i didn sleep nor eat for 2 days till i got what he did at 1:51, he has beautifully used the feedback(excess treble sound) and controlled it to give out the beauty.....;)

    Did you see the expression in Wayne Shorter's face? He's like; "Dude, did you invite me here to play or what". Carlos is just playing all over the place. Out of respect to the great Wayne Shorter, Carlos should have stepped back and comped behind Wayne to let him jam a little more here. Then he could have traded solos back and forth as the song progressed. It would have been appropriate.

    @Rrrrobert808 without a PRS and top of the line amplification that note dies like a wounded bird... I love Carlos, but 50% of his style is equipment

      pretorious700 I have a line 6 amp and a squire strat. Style is style. Equipment is equipment. Music is neither of those, it’s your soul.

    wtf didn't let Wayne play, too bad, guess he didn't like the alto, should have used his tenor, anyway, great tune

    • @scottandrews3878
      @scottandrews3878 8 років тому

      +Yorgo Valirakis Wayne was playing tenor, did you miss 2:30? He just doesn't lay into the way Gato Barbieri does, and the soundtrack is off on this...

  • @nthsieh928
    @nthsieh928 14 років тому

    i totally agree. wayne is also sooo out of his league its ridiculous (mainly in his knowledge of theory and whatnot) santana is not responsive and doesn't really change his comping style to fit the solo either.
