Highly recommended the MK4, I am on my 3rd 2.0 tdci, the most reliable trouble free cars I've come across in a modern car, they surpass 250K easily as long as serviced on time. I am a mechanic in a large diagnostic garage and rarely see these in for repairs, biggest failing is wiring loom that runs across the front panel near ECU will corrode, but is easily rectified, my advice is to leave the 1.6 and 1.8 diesel alone 2.0 tdci is bombproof.
@@davehgpfc8683 only issues we really see relating to dpf are the vac pipes splitting due to heat from exhaust, otherwise it's the most reliable dpf system going, I have done 163k I'n my car and replaced them once, generally does a regeneration around 500 miles mark
I have a MK3 and a Mk4 from new and I love them both. Great reliability and great for the family. I watch car reviews and laugh at the middle aged boy-racers who rubbish the Mondeo.
Brilliant video! Informative, funny and well made. I've got a 2013 Mondeo Titanium X and love the car, its comfy, economical and (touch wood) has been utterly reliable from day one. I like the spec with voice control and converse + dash. The only issue I've ever had is the DAB radio has freaked out twice and refused to lock onto a station but removing the battery terminal for an hour has cleared the fault. So far the car has been faultless and she's just about to hit the big 100K..
I have a 2014 (64 plate) Titanium X Business Edition 2.0 TDCi Estate with 125,000+ miles on. Bought 2nd hand, it's an ex-lease car with full main dealer service history. [If it needed a new bulb fitting, main dealer did it] Being a higher end, I guess it was only one or two drivers, rather than a pool car. Since I bought it, I have had the cam belts, idlers and water pump changed (circa 120,000 miles) and nothing else beyond normal service/tyres. Failed it's most recent M.o.T. test for n/s headlight alignment, following a minor bump to that side. Otherwise, perfect. Tows my caravan to Dorset or Scotland and, does 30m.p.g. whilst doing so! 50-60mpg is about the norm, without the caravan. A similar *prestige* marque has less space etc and, costs more.
Watched this video last year when thinking of going for one. Purchased second hand with just under 90K on the clock. Hit 120K this month and still going strong ! Thanks Alan !
I bought a 2013 very low mileage Titanium X sport last year from a main Ford dealer, its the 163bhp 2.0 diesel and returns 650 miles per tank. It has now got 30k on the clock and has had the rear bushes and disc pads replaced (with genuine Ford parts). I had a 130 bhp Mk3.5 for about 7 years and had to spend lots on it, all the usual power steering racks, turbo VVR, injectors, EGR, DMF etc, so was a little concerned about buying the Mk4.5 but this video has given me a lot of satisfaction. If anyone knows the pitfalls and successes of a car its gonna be you taxi men and you obviously know the boot from the bonnet on these cars! Keep up the good work and keep those honest reviews available to guys like us!!!
Got my 2.0Tdci 2012 back in April or May . Has around 122k miles on the odo, no problems, very reliable even the seller gave me 2 years warranty on the motor and transmission 👍
My company car was a Mk IV Mondeo and did 193,000 miles without missing a beat. That is, apart from a snapped bonnet release cable which the RAC guy who fixed it reckoned was a common fault due to water ingress. The other thing that stuck in my mind about the Mk IV was that our fleet manager wished that all the company directors would use Mondeo’s instead of their Audi’s, BMW’s and Mercedes because his analysis of running costs was telling him the maintenance costs of these ‘status’ vehicles was literally 4 times that of a Mondeo. Anyway, I was so impressed with my Mk IV company car that when I retired early in 2013 I bought myself a 2.0 Lt diesel Mk IV Mondeo estate, which has done 83,000 miles and not missed a beat. The problem I’ve now got is what would I replace it with. By all accounts the Mk V is not as engaging to drive nor as reliable, plus the world is now anti diesel. But I visit Scotland 3 or 4 times a year so electric is out of the question and modern diesels are still more frugal than petrol 🤷♂️.
I bought a 2010 Titanium X, high miler ex-company car. I have driven it across europe, Ireland, even to Malta. Battery died in Malta heat. Only other problems was the AC compressor wouldn't switch on - common break issue in the lilac control wire from the radiator fan back to the ECU. I think I have a shocker out, not sure which atm. I have an engine warning light for the DPF and I get water build up in the spare wheel housing But... I don't know why, but I love the hell out of this car - it just goes.... Oh and 56mpg rocks on a car with 168,000 on the clock.
Yip. Bought my 2008 Mk4 Hatch TDCI Auto with 110km. Still going strong at 150. Just the normal things replaced like diesel filter, front suspension and brakes all around. Love it. Nothing really compares for the money.
I have a 63 plate 2.2 X sport, utterly in love with it. What a car, amazing engine too. Mpg is a little low, but it's an auto durashift, which doesn't help but gladly take the 10%Mpg loss over having the crappy powershift box they put in all the other mondeos
I just bought a 2.2 titanium-x sport...what a car, 105k miles and the thing looks and performs like it's just been driven out the showroom, the quality is astonishing, I recommend you give the DPF a very, very good clean so it never gets dirty again as it were :) then with a good remap it transforms it into a very reliable, more economical missile. However with the latest legislation a friendly MOT tester is a must.
How do you clean the DPF mate? You mean to take it down and jet wash the thing or do a regen? There's a Mondeo titanium x sport I've been watching on eBay but a bit worried about the injectors since it's about 150,000 miles the mileage. Have you had problems with the car going into limp mode and stuff? Thx
Yer know, your knowledge of these motors is brilliant - I'd rather have mine checked out by you, especially as I'd actually like to take mine on a long drive across the US... I've dragged it across 19 countries already.
I have a 1.8 tdci 2008 really happy with this. Some things I had to fix and also I can say is expensive to do it but it worth it as I travel with the car outside of UK. So I had to choose between ford mondeo mk4 and passat b7, I got the Ford and I will do it again if I have to get a new car.
I look after a taxi fleet myself and I'm forever changing coil springs on the mk4. What i will also say is if the radiator flaps fall apart it can stop regens. Also behind the bumper on the drivers side is the powers steering pump and the low presure pump is mm from the bumper so a slight bump can snap it. Also if that vaporizer on the exhaust if it dose get blocked will cause failed regens and as you probably know taxi drivers don't stop when they have issues they just keep going next thing the flexi on the cat pops. Another thing is to teach the driver to take the food away from the clutch when not in use as even having your foot resting on the peddle will slightly engage the thrust bearing and cook the seel in the concentric.
hi, thanks for your comments, i have been lucky then, never had a single coil spring on a mk4 break although the mk3 were always breaking, and never had power steering pipe snapped or even exhaust flexi break but have changed countless fuel vaporisers with cars in permanent limp mode, oh and yeah there are a few annoying drivers that just can't keep their left foot off the clutch lol
@@alan4x to be fair we have a lot of pothole and speed bumps here. And the power steering pipe only brakes if you bash the bumper because the later mk4 had the electric p/steering pump right bumper. And wait till you have to do a clutch and fly on the mk5 with the 2 bellhouse bolts behind the DPF 😡
I bought my 2009 mk4 titanium x in May 2014 at 80,000miles, today May 2018 it has 122,000miles and Honestly it is the best most reliable car I have owned, not a penny spent other than tyres and basic servicing up until this year, 4 new shockers & rear trailing arm bush £560, clutch and dmf (dual mass flywheel) £700, this cost is nothing compared to the milage and reliability. I am looking to buy a new car and will definitely be staying with Ford Mondeo.
I've got the 2009 Titan X sport 2.2 TDCI with 187000 miles on the clock. So far I have had to replace Timing belt, glow plugs. Front Off side bearing. and rear trailing arm bushes. but now all done. I feel still it's a solid car.
Matt Porter That’s about right for the age of the car, most people think their cars are scrap at 100k but they can easily do more with the right maintenance
Yup, my Mk 4 Titanium, 2.0 petrol, manual - at 48,000 miles six years ago. Just broken 100,000 and it has never missed a beat. Tyres and regular servicing (and a fuel leak last year which was easily fixed by a very good mechanic) is all I've had to worry about. I've taken it to Europe and use it every day for my commute. It's just a fantastic car to drive. It really, really was the design sweet spot for this car. I'll miss it when I finally have to give it up. I'm just not sure about the Mk5. Looks good, but they've messed up the steering and I reckon it's underpowered.
I have a 2008 mk4 Estate with the 2.0L diesel no issues whatever, flywheel lasted 138k and the rear bushes were done at 80k, oil change every 10k. Now covered over 200k and still feels tight as a drum. Also anybody considering upgrading from a mk3 just do it the mk4 is a massive step forward.
I had a new one in 2008 as a company car and thrashed the conkers off it . Put 125,000 miles on it in 2 and a half years. It only ever went in for servicing great cars. I bought a 2009 6 months ago with 40,000 on the clock so am planning on keeping it for a while now.
Haha love this video. Just been out and upgraded from a Mk3 2.0 tdci zetec to a 63 plate 2.0 161 titanium X business edition today. The car had 1 owner and serviced every 12500 miles. It drives beautifully and is night and day above the mk3. 2 things I cant get used to- 1. no rattles or rocking on idle (cant even hear the engine) and 2. there is no key to take out now. Every time I finish driving it's just not there. The power delivery is smooth and not served in a turbo lump, its quiet and just a joy to drive. Shame its took me nearly 3 months to find the right one. There aren't loads for sale and I can see why.
Thanks for the video, very informative and reasuring. I have had my 2014 mk4 mondeo 63 plate 2.0TDCI from Motorpoint since it was 1 yr old. They were cheap at the time 'coz the new model was out. Fully serviced as recommended every year. Now, I got 110k on the clock. I've had the Rocker Gasket and the High Pressure Fuel punp gaskett replaced , and the injector seals replaced over the last 3 yrs. I do love this car though.
I've got 2 Mondeos. One MK4 2.0 TDCi manual g/b, other 4.5 2.0 TDCi Powershift. First one I bought when was 97k... Now is 168k. Parts replaced: egr, cambelt, turbocharger, ECU map, rear bearings and breaks. On other one just oil service on g/b from extra things. All faults on older one was mainly related to short distance traveled. I can only say that mo4 is batter build quality than MK4.5.
I have a 2010 Focus MKII 2.O TDCI hatchback Dual Clutch Auto, not the problematic ones. With a 146k miles, and always serviced it my self. Honestly I only ever had to change, the intake tubing and the glow plugs. The best diesel i have ever owned!
Brought my 2011 Mondeo estate about a year ago, ex taxi 121000 on the clock, faultless car, bloody love it, always wanted a mondeo and finally got my dream car.
I have had my 2009 mk4 mondeo, 1.8tdci since last July. I have put 8,000km since I got it (not crazy mileage, I know) and it has been fine. No issues. Now, when I purchased the car I had the wetbelt replaced with a timing chain kit, new top timing belt and new aux belt. I gave it a good service too, all filters and oil etc. They are a nice car to drive and are really solid on the road.
@@Danklen Hi, I don't remember the exact coset. I didn't have to pay for labour because my father is a mechanic and we did the job. I do remember that we bought the aftermarket timing chain kit and we have to buy one additional pulley from the Ford dealership. If you go into Ford and explain what you are doing they should know immediately what you need. This channel (Alan's) has lots of videos explaining what you need and how it is done. Check this one out ua-cam.com/video/goxwu9EzjiY/v-deo.html
2010 mk4 2l diesel on 94000m , and it's fantastic. Alloy wheels need a refurb, and a fog light needs renewing, but other than that it's awesome. In a real quandary as to whether to spend £15000 on a different mondeo or spend a couple of grand on this one.
Got a 1.8 tdci 2007, very happy with it. But I changed my dmf 6 months ago(10 000 km), and I believe it has failed again. I really recommend LED interior lights, makes it 3 years newer😆
Currently have a 2008 Mondeo Titanium X estate 1.8 TDCI. I bought it back in 2018 so nearly 5 years in may 2023. I bought it to replace a 2016 Nissan qashqai I had from new (or should I say cash cow). I literally threw the keys back at Nissan. it was riddled with electrical problems 16 trips to the garage in 18 months :( . Since having this Mondeo I have driven decent amount of milage with my business, filled with my music equipment and all manner of things fully laden, driven to Greece and back thee times from the uk, and It has been the best car ever. built like a tank, and the only major expense I had was a new clutch and dMF at 150k on the dot which cost me just under £600. the timing belt was done by the garage when I bought it on just over 100K, and all I have had to do is put tyres on it and the usual service. absolutely amazing car. currently on nearly 170k
I'm actually planning to buy one of these. Found one that looks like it was taken care of. One snag though: owner said they've changed to oil every 12000 miles instead of the 6000 I would have been happier with. They've used it mostly as a highway commuter though, so I'm a bit on the fence. Anybody who's owned one of these can give me a bit of advice? Apart from the oil change, the car looks great, no smoke from exhaust, fluid levels are as they should be, haven't heard any rattles from the engine, cam-belt was recently replaced.
@@dalasplus that's incredible for a 1.6 diesel engine, well done for keeping it going so long, have you done anything specific maintenance wise to get to that level of mileage ?
@@philyaboots1 Yes it is original engine, I had this car from 2k to 346k now, 8 years. I did nothing special changed 3 times timing belt will do next soon, every 12-15k done full service including fuel filter with premium oil like castrol. I had 20 or 21 service stamps 🤣 once i change termostat, twice alternator and thats it for this engine. It is Peugeot engine in ford body. Probably best mach😅
Thanks Alan, mine has done around 150k. Between 130k and 140 new clutch & twin mass flywheel and rear bake overhaul - painful! Will now take it up to 200k. Really good vid.
I got a 2005 Saab 93 with same engine as the vectra although was told it's a fiat engine and I've had no trouble, been a really reliable and good looking motor!
Those 1.9 jtd engines are one of the most reliable diesels ever made, only issues are the cranckshaft sensor that goes crazy and the engine turns off when hot and only starts after getting colder, but is a 50 quid fix.
I'm a happy owner of a 2.0 Petrol ⛽ mk4.No mechanical problems just serviced on time one wheel bearing replace in 2 years. Driving experience is really good plus you got the space which is vital when you are 6.7.
I have a 58 2.0tdci, done 204,000miles still starts awesome, had rear bushes changed at 190,000 the tracking is out at back but been told to leave it alone. DPF had few problems but one garage said needs a new turbo (turbo over charge fault) - £800 quote, took it to another garage, did a force regen on dpf - solved it!! DPF lets it down. It’s a auto and no problems. Just gonna run it in ground now as it’s worth £500 if lucky but worth more to me. Heavy on diesel tho
I have a MK3 Mondeo 2004 2.0L petrol/lpg Ghia just over 60000 on the clock still runs like a dream, same colour has the car in the vid, bought it brand new,I have considered upgrading to MK4 but they don't seem to offer the same quality of ride as mine.I think i'll run mine till it dies. Great vid by the way.
Hi. I have a 2009 1.8 tdci and is a tank. Only things i changed was shock absovers and the ant roll bar links. The clutch, dual mass flywheel and starter where changed by the previous owner at 120.000 miles has now 147.000 so plenty of life.
Im from Germany and drive an Mondeo Mk4 2009 2.0Tdci 115hp. My car has almost 335tkm and my only 2 Problems were - Starter (300tkm) and Generator (180tkm) The other work at this car was only Service (Oil, Filters, and Brakes) I hope he will survive till 400tkm 😉
Iv got mk3 mondeo 2001 2.0 petrol and I have considered a mk4 But unlike the diesel mk3 the petrols seem to be ridiculously reliable with nothing pricey to repair no pumps injectors dual mass flywheel to worry about. I actually spoke to taxi driver that had a mk3 2.0 petrol sold it only because it was over 200k and bought a mk4 diesel within 2 weeks of owning had to replace the injectors. I’m also not convinced it’s a prettier car to be honest. But the mk5 is certainly a good looking motor. I’ll maybe just hold on to the old girl
John Taylor thank you for your moronic angry ramblings. Those dark thoughts may be useful to your therapist but offer little to the MK4 Ford Mondeo ownership experience.
I had a mk4 2.0d for 4 and half years and the only problem i had appart from the rear bushes was a none starting issue and the dam dpf...when it hit the 100k mark it would take ages to start and just bellow white smoke out until it got warmed up,,,ooh and once it was eventually started you couldn't rev it until it was warmed up....
Great video thanks just buying one next week 2 litre diesel titanium x business edition 95 thousands on clock in mint condition in and out been told there bullet prof been ver stressful knowing what car to get on my budget payed 6000 and there doing cam belt and water pump and mot on it got full service history and get 12 months warranty with it
I can't believe the ecu is in the front bumper. When I had an accident in my 14 plate a few years ago the impact was that side of the front bumper. Guess I was lucky I didn't hit the ecu, just cracked the washer bottle. 😄
Love my 2011 163PS Titanium MK4.5 Mondeo. Never had any major issues. If I was to gripe, it would be the diesel filter is a pain to change also the cabin filter. And changing a front headlight bulb isn't that straight forward, apart from that its the most reliable car I have ever driven.
I have 3 x TDi Mondeos in Australia. Very economical on fuel. Nice to drive and cheap to buy. Had an eml warning light and solved the problem with cheap OBD and Forscan software. New sensor for dpf located on firewall and all sorted. Thanks for the video and also the timing belt video you prepared. All mine are around 130K.. so will cross my fingers till 200k before the belts are changed.
I got a mark 4 Ford Mondeo which is a 57 plate. I bought it in 2008 at 170,000 miles and l immediately did a cam belt change due to the high mileage, and since the car purchasing the car, i have not had a single mechanical issue apart from minor servicing (glow plug change, old and air filter change) and battery change. The car is very highly reliable, and even though I tend to do motorway miles often, l have never had a breakdown or used my RAC recovery service. However, I had recently been tempted to upgrade to the MK5 Mondeo because they are very nice looking and very large, even larger than the MK4. The only problem is that they are quite expensive, and even ones with high mileage commonly on the 65 plate go for around £5,000 plus. I saw a very nice MK5, a 65 plate, recently going for £5,300, which was the cheapest MK5 I could find. The problem is that it has done 167,000 miles. It's been sold by a car dealer who said it used to be a company car with 1 previous owner. The car comes with 6 months warranty. Do you think l should take a risk to buy the car? The dealer told me that the MK5 had a dual mass fly wheel change, gearbox change and cam belt change. Please l urgently need your advice. I have a MK4 2011 Titanium 2.0 TDCi which I bought in July 2012 with 8000 miles and never had any issues until last July year when 2 fuel injectors, with too much fuel return, kept causing it to go into limp mode. Figuring I was unlucky enough to have a bad batch, I had my local Ford dealer replace all 4 injectors. Then, last month, one arm of #1 fuel injector clamp/bracket snapped, causing the injector to pop out. Just after christmas, I noticed #3 injector was chuffing, tightened the bolt holding the clamp/bracket, which reduced the chuffing, and ordered a set of seals (they only come in 4's) and the following day both arms of the fuel injector clamp/bracket for #2 injector had snapped off. WTF?!?! Figuring what the chances of this happening, I called the Ford Dealer who did the injector replacement, and they just shrugged it off as being out of 1 year warranty for their work, refusing to accept any possibility that it was their workmanship/parts that could have anything to do with these faults. So I took my Mondeo to my local garage to replace the #2 fuel bracket and all 4 injector seals, and they have just told me that all the other 3 fuel injector brackets are cracked (i.e. including the one I replaced last month). Has anyone every encountered or even heard of this happening, because it has my local garage and myself stumped, and the Ford dealer who did the work want £105 just to take a look. Any ideas/clues appreciated. Great video BTW!
Miss my 2009 2.0 TDCI mk4 Mondeo and wish I still had it. It was the best car I've had and much better than the 2012 Nissan Qashqai 1.5 DCI that I have now.
Hi Alan, thanks for the informative review. I have a 1.6 ecoboost '12 Mondeo and so far for the last 5 years didn't have any problem with it ( bought at 40k). Now on 92 k miles and need to replace rear arm trailing bushes, both front track rod ends and a front wheel bearing. Also one of the rear right hand side number plate light is burnt. When trying to replace it there seems to be a very short wire lenght so the whole module doesn't come out. The left hands side one comes out no problem. I can get the other bites sorted for my MOT sorted but stuck on this bad design. Wondering if you have noticed the same issue on the MK4. Thanks and keep posting them videos.
hi yes a lot of them are like that with not enough wire, you need to hold the bulb holder with long nose pliers and twist off the lamp lens then fit new bulb..its a bit fiddly
Got two, but petrol ones; 2.5t and 1.6 ecoboost. Both are LPG converted. I also got one MK2 with 1.8 zetec engine and 280.000 km on tacho. Since they are petrol, you can imagine they were much cheaper than diesels.
Love the videos Alan. My mk4 has developed an intermittent start issue. Sometimes starts first touch, other times needs cranked for 5 or 6 seconds but runs perfectly and drives great. 2.2 titanium x, 09
I can almost guarantee that's the instrument cluster lead free solder cracking and when the car vibrates when cranking it pushing the connections together.
i have an 2010 ford mondeo 2.0 tdci zetec auto good car so far only done 75k miles down side is it doesnt have the day time runing lights of some of the other mk4 mondeos
Hi! I bought two months ago a mondeo mk4 turnier with 2.0 tdci 140 bhp from 2011. It has run over 315 thousand km on the clock. I start to have a several problems with it. First: it comes some strange metal sound when I drove on bad roads, and it is only then. Second problem is brakes on the backside. It sounds like old train, when I press the pedal. And last thing is some strange vibration on the motor, which I can feel when I sit in the car. It's show up only sometimes and for a short time but anyway it doesn't sounds right. Otherwise I'm really glad with the car, specially when I drive on the motorway. Greetings from Denmark 🙂
Love the irony. Just had rear trailing arm bushes changed. Massive job. Parts £55 labour £195. Total plus vat £300. With all other bits needed and major service £978. Happily paid it as 64 plate mondeo titanium powershift now has no adviseries and still drives likena dream. My favourite car ever.
I'm thinking of getting the mk4 2.0 petrol in zetec trim. 35.8 mpg is what I'm currently getting with my mk3 ghia x but some big bills are coming up, clutch and a replacement gearbox because the main bearing is rumbling so I shall call it quits and bag a low miler. Too many things to go wrong with a tdci. Still has the same problems as the old mk3 diesel as regards to injector pump, egr valves clogging as well as stuffed dpf's. They're good when if you can buy a really low miler at sensible money but my funds are limited. If I want extra mpg I'll invest in an lpg system.
I bought a Mk4 XR5 - big mistake. It's cost me a fortune including a head rebuild. Shit build quality lots of electrical issues. Running it into the ground now. Does go quick though
Hi Alan,I have a bit of clunkishness coming from the front over uneven ground and over speed bumps, what do you reckon? Shocks? Most noticeable on the right,I will add that our roads are full of potholes and speed bumps. 94k powershift.
Andy RooHoo Hi. If the ball joints in the anti roll bar are not worn out then it is very common for the front shock absorbers to knock quite noticeably. I have. Changed many mk4 front shocks simply for knocking
Don't let your mk 4 mondeo fuel tank get too low the dirt seems to get to the expensive injectors far too easily, shell nitro diesel seems to work wonders for the injectors.
Can you do a video on how to keep the MK4's in working order apart from regular servicing. Should I add additives to the tank? use injector cleaners? I also use mine as a taxi and need to keep it on the road. Cheers, see ya!!
Hi, I still have mk1 stw -95 as a hobby and I drove someday mk4 stw, I expected that it is far more better to drive but actually I didn't notice any "huge" difference in handling or riding comfort. But sure mk4 is worth of buying.
hi there, Mondeo mk4 2008 2.0L TDCI here. Issues in my car: 1. interrupting when I speed up in certain RPM range 2. time to time the engine disconnects the turbine and the orange lamp comes on It would be great to hear any clues how to start repair. Great channel Greetings
I have the 1.8 tdci bought it at 58k in 2017 found out it had wet belt what i didnt no bout had it converted to chain so bought the conversion kit inc water pump and cambelt then no mechanic would touch it as hated the job found some1 who did it was miles from where i lived but he did them on a weekly basis what was good he changed it at 104k miles He said i was very lucky the wet belt was that bad it was on last threads he sent me pics and did not look good also he sent me video of water pump and it was that bad it was rattling he had feeling the parts was original as i had no service history but glad i had it done but would not recommend leaving it as long as i did. The bushes are the next thing as bad noise and rear tyres inside wear easy I have orginal clutch and dmf And still loads life in clutch not rattles etc The only down fall i have had with car is hand break cables the rear part of it they stretch had them changed twice easy jobs just pain on ramp lol Only changed brake pads and discs once since i owned car Also silly way factory to chance rear brake bulbs is u change and put new ones in then try still dont work so disconnect battery for 10 mins make sure got radio code then connects and all works fine. I had problem with the dials/speedo I had the basic clocks first ones the speedo kept going on and off like when u battery has gone dead then got another set got mileage changed then after a while they started playing up where the radio would go off then u turn radio back on then it goes on 1hr stanby then woyld turn off then back on b4 the hour and clocks would go off randomly like it would all reset it self on motorway in fast lane and u shite yourself so i got a set off a car being broke didnt realise year newer than mine different model and screen was smaller and the screen was smaller and the airbag light stayed on wouldnt go off even looked on stored codes nothing there was something to do with the clocks speedo was all over place same as the revs so spent good money on a set of higher ones off a titanium what had convers had digital speed the mpg worked fuel was accurate not like others radio worked properly so after speending nearly 200 on that clock it worked properly and i needed them for mot. Spent over 300 on clocks then time fitting them etc Part from them things the car has plenty of power for a 1.8 tdci Its comfortable Roomy boot Quiet diesel engine Relable car never broke down Plenty of room for kids in back and push chair plus shopping Parts not expensive Good on fuel Cheap tax and insurance I have the 59 reg but its 2010 Can easy mod these for more power and do look good when modified So more positives than negatives would by 1 again in future Ive had mk2 2.5 petrol mk3 2.0 tdci and now the mk4 1.8 This wins hands down do wish i bought the higher model but glad i didnt buy the 2.0 as they have cat converter and dpf were the 1.8 only has cat so dont get all regen probs etc So even though has wet belt would rather have that than the dpf so all and all im happy with my car
Had a mark 1 2.0i ghia years ago, 10 years I had it never replaced one thing except normal service items like oil, filters, nice car, it's a shame ford are axing the mondeo, brilliant car.
These mk4 tdci in auto trans are an excellent second hand buy. I’ve got one and it’s been a luxury to drive, has plenty of power and torque like an electric motor. Has excellent economy and some very nice features, I’ve certainly got my money’s worth from it but there’s plenty life left in it.
Update: I now have a mk4 2.0 PETROL! Zetec, 1 previous owner and that was a female doctor and the car has full service history. It's a super quiet engine and I average 34.5mpg. Miles better than the mk3, the ride is firm with no rattles and is built solid. Yes it's a heavier car but has virtually no roll going into the corners and the steering is precise with absolute no play. Best car I've owned so far. Mind you I've had quite a few sheds in the past but this mk4 ain't one of them.....
Hi Simon, I was thinking of buying the same 2.0 zetec and converting it lpg like yourself. Did you convert it and did it affect performance at all? Thanks
Hi what about the DPF bud
@@davehgpfc8683 only issues we really see relating to dpf are the vac pipes splitting due to heat from exhaust, otherwise it's the most reliable dpf system going, I have done 163k I'n my car and replaced them once, generally does a regeneration around 500 miles mark
I'm planning to buy MK4 and found your video. Instant subscription, love the editing, humor and knowledge. Thanks for great 12 minutes :D
Great cars .... if yours is as good as mine has been then 200k should be issue free
Yeah same here my 2012 titanium is superb
Thanks Alan !
thats good news
Considering buying a MK4 2.3 petrol, I just ran into Alan's channel. Man, this is entertaining. Hilarious and extremely knowledgeable. Keep it up!
Got my 2.0Tdci 2012 back in April or May . Has around 122k miles on the odo, no problems, very reliable even the seller gave me 2 years warranty on the motor and transmission 👍
As an owner of a MK4 TDCI 2.0L MC 2010 for 7 years, non DSG version, 6 spd auto. Not a problem at all and i maintain it myself. Great car.
I have an engine warning light for the DPF and I get water build up in the spare wheel housing
But... I don't know why, but I love the hell out of this car - it just goes.... Oh and 56mpg rocks on a car with 168,000 on the clock.
thanks for your comment, i am thinking of buying a 2010 titanium x .. needed to read this tye of comment
All 2.2 years are durashift?
@@Ukeleke1 yes. All have an aisin awf21 box
Had 2 mk 4s they're blooming marvelous for the money.
I have a 2011 mondeo tdci estate titanium love it it is awesome motor
I bought my 2009 mk4 titanium x in May 2014 at 80,000miles, today May 2018 it has 122,000miles and Honestly it is the best most reliable car I have owned, not a penny spent other than tyres and basic servicing up until this year, 4 new shockers & rear trailing arm bush £560, clutch and dmf (dual mass flywheel) £700, this cost is nothing compared to the milage and reliability. I am looking to buy a new car and will definitely be staying with Ford Mondeo.
leem1181 All Fords are very reliable cars, I have never had any issues with any one of them.
How much did it cost to get the wet belt replaced with a timing chain?
If you remember…
Apart from the oil change, the car looks great, no smoke from exhaust, fluid levels are as they should be, haven't heard any rattles from the engine, cam-belt was recently replaced.
my mk4.5 mondeo has done now 285k it still drives amazing its a 2.0tdci love it amazing for taxi
I have Mk4, 12 plate, 334k on the clock still run like new. Best car ever had. Never let me down
Which engine do you have please ?
@@philyaboots1 1.6 econitic. Diesel
@@dalasplus that's incredible for a 1.6 diesel engine, well done for keeping it going so long, have you done anything specific maintenance wise to get to that level of mileage ?
@@dalasplus is it on its original engine?
@@philyaboots1 Yes it is original engine, I had this car from 2k to 346k now, 8 years. I did nothing special changed 3 times timing belt will do next soon, every 12-15k done full service including fuel filter with premium oil like castrol. I had 20 or 21 service stamps 🤣 once i change termostat, twice alternator and thats it for this engine.
It is Peugeot engine in ford body.
Probably best mach😅
I bought the estate version and never looked back best car I’ve ever had!
Same here mate, 2.5t estate
Got a 12 plate Titanium X with powershift. Had it remapped and I absolutely love the car
This guy is out of his mind! I love him.
Yeah..I got me suspicions. Don't know if I would let him near my Mk4 Mondeo. I would want to know what "medication" he was on first ! ;)
2009, 2.0 petrol . 277 000 km , 0 problems. my dragon!
Got a titanium x estate, so far been a great car. Great to drive too.
excellant
I've just brought a mk4 titanium x 1.8 tdci and one of my best buys yet
You’re right about the clutches. I got my Clutch on my MK4 1.8 tdci replaced in July 2019 and it went again in September 2019
I recon that something wasn't done right. The clutch should last a good 100.000 km, a lot more if you're doing a lot of motorway driving
We have our MK4 for like 50k km now, everything is perfect exept one turbo pipe broke @220 on the Autobahn.... 2.2tdci btw.
2.2 TDCI 200ps, 230.000km, no problem. Only the same leak oil of this turbo pipe.
Im from Germany and drive an Mondeo Mk4 2009 2.0Tdci 115hp.
My car has almost 335tkm and my only 2 Problems were - Starter (300tkm) and Generator (180tkm)
The other work at this car was only Service (Oil, Filters, and Brakes)
I hope he will survive till 400tkm 😉
I'm looking to buy a mk4 and found your video, I've know bought a MK4 2013 Zetec Business Edition. Picking it up this week can't wait.
Thanks for your experienced opinion. I've been very happy with my mk4 2.0 tdci. Cheers
Well u must not be a guy who has a mechanical mind then.Tell me has it been reliable .
Ok u enjoy your piece of shit American crap then.Just was trying to help u out.
John Taylor thank you for your moronic angry ramblings. Those dark thoughts may be useful to your therapist but offer little to the MK4 Ford Mondeo ownership experience.
Ok go play with your ford.
Go shoot your ford.Crap cars.
My mondeo mk4 from 2008 103kw have already over 315000km run and no problems.
All mine are around 130K.. so will cross my fingers till 200k before the belts are changed.
thanks for your comment, well apart from working cars i believe you have good weather as well, many thanks, alan

I asked lots of my British friends, do you know what happened to Phil Mitchell, no one knew.
I do now.
I watched your one of your videos which was titled " is the MK5 worth the upgrade". Having watched your video of what can go wrong with MK5 mechanically, l am wondering if l should take the risk. The dealer told me that the MK5 had a dual mass fly wheel change, gearbox change and cam belt change. Please l urgently need your advice. The dealer is also ready to offer me a fair sum on my current MK4 Mondeo.I got a mark 4 Ford Mondeo which is a 57 plate. The dealer is also ready to offer me a fair sum on my current MK4 Mondeo.
I've got a 1.8 diesel and its been a great car I love it its a 2009 model

Great video mate I have a Mk4 2.0 petrol Zetec can't fault it at all brilliant car👍
same!
I got a 2014 mk4 turbo diesel. Only main issue I had was the semi automatic transmission having to replace the oil seal in the bell housing area. Apart from that and a leaky a.c. pump not a bad car
Just bought a new 2014 business class titanium x lovely car
Hi ,how is the car after 6 months ?
@@mihaisuciu6674 perfect now on 149,000 miles a few services and some premium tyres it’s been brilliant with my customers especially as the Mercedes it replaced I’m over the moon with it
@@retroboy8696 thank you

Glad it helped
James Bond drove a mk4. Great video, thank you.
lol, i knew there was something special about mk4 s, thanks for your comment
I have a 2009 2.2 sport tdci and its bulletproof and with a tdi tuning box its kicking out 223bhp highly recommend them
I normally buy ex taxis through a company and keep them for a while as I know they have been maintained
I just got a nice 2012 Mondeo 1.9 titanium .. Fantastic car and drives like new Peugeot engine
Got the car for peanuts and it looks the biz
Hi Tomozukill, how do you find the 1.6 ecoboost with LPG conversion? Thanks
Love the videos Alan. My mk4 has developed an intermittent start issue. Sometimes starts first touch, other times needs cranked for 5 or 6 seconds but runs perfectly and drives great. 2.2 titanium x, 09
I can almost guarantee that's the instrument cluster lead free solder cracking and when the car vibrates when cranking it pushing the connections together.
i have an 2010 ford mondeo 2.0 tdci zetec auto good car so far only done 75k miles down side is it doesnt have the day time runing lights of some of the other mk4 mondeos
the car is very comfy, I have auto transmission, people avoid buying these, but I do not regret it, yet the engine malfunction message is inevitable.
I've been a Mk4 Mondeo owner for 9 years, for me it's a reliable friend.
Entertaining video. You have a very distinctive style. Sounds a great car.
Really good informative video on the Mondeo there you deserve more views
what a great informative vid, thanks mate, could watch all day
I have a 2013 titanium x as a taxi and I love it. Thanks for this video. Puts my mind at rest.
oh.... thats the flash one, thanks for your comment
Hi Alan,I have a bit of clunkishness coming from the front over uneven ground and over speed bumps, what do you reckon? Shocks? Most noticeable on the right,I will add that our roads are full of potholes and speed bumps. 94k powershift.
Andy RooHoo
Hi. If the ball joints in the anti roll bar are not worn out then it is very common for the front shock absorbers to knock quite noticeably. I have. Changed many mk4 front shocks simply for knocking
Don't let your mk 4 mondeo fuel tank get too low the dirt seems to get to the expensive injectors far too easily, shell nitro diesel seems to work wonders for the injectors.
love the sense of humor and the knowledge is great
Did over a 100,000 in a 2007 mk4 crashed the gears quite s few times, I really get the impression these gearboxes are bombproof.

Hi Alan have a Mk4 2l 168k miles driving great .only problem bluetooth not working lol.
hi there, Mondeo mk4 2008 2.0L TDCI here.
Issues in my car:
1. interrupting when I speed up in certain RPM range
2. time to time the engine disconnects the turbine and the orange lamp comes on
It would be great to hear any clues how to start repair.
Great channel Greetings
I have the 1.8 tdci bought it at 58k in 2017 found out it had wet belt what i didnt no bout had it converted to chain so bought the conversion kit inc water pump and cambelt then no mechanic would touch it as hated the job found some1 who did it was miles from where i lived but he did them on a weekly basis what was good he changed it at 104k miles
He said i was very lucky the wet belt was that bad it was on last threads he sent me pics and did not look good also he sent me video of water pump and it was that bad it was rattling he had feeling the parts was original as i had no service history but glad i had it done but would not recommend leaving it as long as i did.
The bushes are the next thing as bad noise and rear tyres inside wear easy
I have orginal clutch and dmf
And still loads life in clutch not rattles etc
The only down fall i have had with car is hand break cables the rear part of it they stretch had them changed twice easy jobs just pain on ramp lol
Only changed brake pads and discs once since i owned car
Also silly way factory to chance rear brake bulbs is u change and put new ones in then try still dont work so disconnect battery for 10 mins make sure got radio code then connects and all works fine.
I had problem with the dials/speedo
I had the basic clocks first ones the speedo kept going on and off like when u battery has gone dead then got another set got mileage changed then after a while they started playing up where the radio would go off then u turn radio back on then it goes on 1hr stanby then woyld turn off then back on b4 the hour and clocks would go off randomly like it would all reset it self on motorway in fast lane and u shite yourself so i got a set off a car being broke didnt realise year newer than mine different model and screen was smaller and the screen was smaller and the airbag light stayed on wouldnt go off even looked on stored codes nothing there was something to do with the clocks speedo was all over place same as the revs so spent good money on a set of higher ones off a titanium what had convers had digital speed the mpg worked fuel was accurate not like others radio worked properly so after speending nearly 200 on that clock it worked properly and i needed them for mot. Spent over 300 on clocks then time fitting them etc
Part from them things the car has plenty of power for a 1.8 tdci
Its comfortable
Roomy boot
Quiet diesel engine
Relable car never broke down
Plenty of room for kids in back and push chair plus shopping
Parts not expensive
Good on fuel
Cheap tax and insurance
I have the 59 reg but its 2010
Can easy mod these for more power and do look good when modified
So more positives than negatives would by 1 again in future
Ive had mk2 2.5 petrol mk3 2.0 tdci and now the mk4 1.8
This wins hands down do wish i bought the higher model but glad i didnt buy the 2.0 as they have cat converter and dpf were the 1.8 only has cat so dont get all regen probs etc
So even though has wet belt would rather have that than the dpf so all and all im happy with my car
Just bought a 2008 Ztec Sport 2.3l petrol 6 speed power shift tiptronic, smooth vehicle, comfy, roomy, 18" alloys are stunning, done only 90,000km
Mind you I've had quite a few sheds in the past but this mk4 ain't one of them.....
lol,, they are a nice car to drive..sounds like you picked up a good one
Hi Simon, I was thinking of buying the same 2.0 zetec and converting it lpg like yourself. Did you convert it and did it affect performance at all? Thanks
There is 2 different 2.0 tdci engines in the mondeos ones a puegeot (mk4 facelift) and the other is a duratorq (mk4 pre facelift)
Which Einstein at Ford put the ECU right behind the bumper?
