      Hi Sam... The church (ekklesia) of God is neither a New Testament invention nor an institution comprised of clergy.
      Biblically speaking, it is the people of God, in covenant with God, gathered before God...
      1) On the earth, in the Old Testament (old covenant) [Deuteronomy 31:30; Acts 7:38; Nehemiah 13:1]
      2) On the earth, in the New Testament (new covenant) [Matthew 18:17; 1 Corinthians 11:18; 1 Timothy 3:15]
      3) In heaven, glorified [Hebrews 12:23]
      The faithful saints in both the Old Testament (before and during the Mosaic covenant) and New Testament (new covenant), are sons of Abraham, the man of faith, counted righteous by faith; see Hebrews 11 for examples.
      These faithful saints comprise the cultivated olive tree (Romans 11) and are made perfect together (Hebrews 11:40, 12:23)... The "Israel of God."
      The Greek term, ἐκκλησία (ekklesia), is an informal term, a common noun, and not capitalized. There is no "Church Age" unless your tarting point is Deuteronomy 4:10.
      Blessings

    God is the definition of good.
    There is no way to be something you do not accept the roots to.
    That is human mental gymnastics, something we have been told not to rely on.
    The closest people can come to being good without God, is to copy the characteristics while holding on for dear life to ones insanity.
    They then just are projecting thous characteristics without any deeper sense of meaning.
    The source defines what is. Without God, you do not know what good is.
    Describe the colour green while being blind. Good luck to the ones trying.
    We can define what green is because God gave us eyes to see it.
    Goodness is not for us to define, only god is good.

    I have been interested in the Orthodox Church for a couple of months now. I have a couple of Orthodox Churches close by but their schedules are super weird regarding Bible Study classes (Fri 11-12:30 & 9:30-11 at the other place like people don’t have jobs). Plus I have a 4 year old that is CRAZY even though we’re very disciplined in our house. I suppose I will stop making petulant excuses and just GO and drag her out the back as needed.

      Well, the most important thing is lithurgy and not the bible study, so the schedule is fashioned accordingly. You can probably figure something out with your baby, you can probably ask other people for advice or help.

      Bible study is not the same as Catechism. It may seem backwards to a protestant, but studying the Bible is actually kind of low on the list of priorities for a new Christian to be educated in. Reverence, prayer, temperance, obedience, humility, and the life of the Church, all take precedence over studying the Bible. One simple reason is that we hear the readings every day in Church; these things are not separate, they tie in and feed each other. But without learning virtue, reading the Bible won't do you any good. The life of the Church is the carefully coordinated path toward virtue.

    • @MrMann-gt1eh
      @MrMann-gt1eh 4 години тому

      @@NFS0038 that’s difficult for me to wrap my mind around. Bible is history. It’s “why we worship the same God as this small 70 person family from Canaan” (Jacob) when the entire world had it’s own Gods. How can one have reverence for someone they don’t know? So many people find a grounded faith in learning the history of the world and how God has proven Himself to be THE God through the Bible. I believe, I need help with my unbelief.

    • @NFS0038
      @NFS0038 3 години тому

      @@MrMann-gt1eh Well, if you don't have the mind of the Church, it will be impossible to actually bear fruit from your study of the Bible. Just look at the 30,000 protestant denominations in the US. If Bible study was the most important thing, they wouldn't be so far from grace. Yet the Church existed 300 years in the beginning without the canonized Bible as you know it (that's longer than America has been a nation). The experience in the Church is the way to Christ, not your own mind's rationalization.

    I just had the thought of sharing my thoughts because I was never associated with the Orthodox Church outside of just worldly providence and I came too this topic and I think it relates because my thoughts are completely concerning the notion of the Almighty and what we do or do not as he has commanded so that we may know.
    Many people say he did that because he loves us.
    I am certain that he does otherwise life would not have breathe and warmth and water amongst many other good things and that the world we live in would not be good it would be some other fictional world that is upside at all the wrong intervals. However I believe that the Almighty has a more powerful grasp upon the world and in power he does more than simply love us though he does and we “do not be afraid”. Concerning this thought I thought and I thought that I could share the thought that in this meaning we can understand there is a message that his son Jesus Christ might be powerful in our weaknesses in a sort of kaleidoscopic way so that from time too time the church may say that these things are only done out of love reasoning that this was a measure that is righteous but forbidding that notion because that is comparison in the lord also there must be something else; by these things which are also life which is mysterious and more so than ourselves the distant world is mysterious so we should focus on the simplest things which are like these pillars that ascend up forever so that we know they are true but they are perhaps not physical: so, that the church is alive we can see because ministry will share a true knowledge which is in the world we can experience in life and at another time another individual fraction of all of that gravity and power is the word that the world needs in these fields which if you ask me are just not as redeemable as we expect from them in our technologically advanced system.

    For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Cor. 5:21
    Your salvation, standing, or position in Christ is received by grace through faith. This new position in the body of Christ has changed your identity, that is, who you are.
    This new identity is like the job title you are given on the first day of work. You have not done any work, but you have been given a new identity; you sit in a new position.
    Don’t forget who Christ made you, and how that was possible. It is the cross of Christ that did all the work necessary for your salvation, and the power of the resurrection of Christ that guarantees you a heavenly place with Christ.
    The response to sin for the believer is to stop living like who you were, and start living according to who you are in Christ by faith.
    Now it is our duty to live up to the high calling we have received freely through Him.

    When Jesus descended to hell, He went there to liberate the souls of the people who lived by the Law. So before Him there was no salvation. Thats how much human virtue is worth.

      Jesus sat at the table with everyone. Excuse me since I don't know all my Bible references but there's a bit where one of the Apostles asks Jesus to not speak to someone who was not a believer or something like that, and Jesus said: who isn't against us , is with us. Don't worry yourself with these details, the message is Christ.
