this is the most mixed bag of tricks I've seen in a while and I love it.
This was one of, if not, THE BEST round tables yet. So informative, so transformative for me. Thank you!
@@giffordbecks4905 Did you really just steal a two year old comment that's just sitting there under this one? 💀 LORD...
I see Ava. I'm here. This was a great roundtable.
This was one of, if not, THE BEST round tables yet. So informative, so transformative for me. Thank you!
Will there be a Cinematographers Roundtable 2019 soon?
Never
they stopped taking questions about film vs digital and so the reporters have no questions
MGBillionaire Unfortunately that is believable, that’s all they ever ask lol
Yes there is one
I really like this moderator. She let the conversation flow and guided it unobtrusively. The opposite of that old guy. I forgot his name but unfortunately, no matter who the interviewees are, I can’t watch when he moderates. 😣 What a breath of fresh air to really get to focus on the directors and hear them out.
Yes shes good and that blonde girl is pretty good too just that guy is obnoxious keep interupting everyone
I definitely agree, I would like to see her do more lol.
I agree but the camera shots were a mess. They stayed too long on someone reaction instead of getting at least a quick establishing shot of the person who speaking, some shots were to wide at the wrong time. I wonder how they shoot it. I know it's multi-camera but is their a director calling shots as they record the show or is it all done in the editing room after shooting?
agreed
I wanna add to my comment that I've seen Stephen genuinely do a better job with more recent interviews. It seems like he took the feedback a lot of us were giving.
Came for Ava, stayed for Ava! Everyone else was good too. Lol
Liking this moderator, first time I've seen her on one of these
@Neta Shm agreed. That's where I like the other woman that moderates.
Me too.
@Neta Shm She's hot who cares
This chick should def talk a course in public speaking.
I loved Ben Stiller throwing subtle shade about the 10 hour days on game of thrones sets . "Give them a lunch break"
David Nutter should not be here. The final Season of Game of thrones was such a failure.
@@thr3385 i would blame the writers (D&D). Directing seemed allright. What do you think?
Adam McKay is just amazing, really love his work. So inspiring!
Loving how they all seem to be fans of each other.
That was soooo good!! The conversations flowed so well and the moderator had great questions. What a lovely group. 😊
Ava DuVernay seems to be very keen with integrity. Her project to help through empathy people rebuild is simply beautiful. Made me think a bit of Oprah Winfrey's touch with less tears and business like brand...
This is one of my favorite roundtable! The guests are very knowledgeable, funny, engaging, and respectful! And kudos to the moderator was great in letting the conversation flow naturally!
Missing "Chernobyl" director, but it's a good roundtable.
Every roundtable talks on THR missing "Chernobyl".
huh? you do realize that there are tons of directors that should b there but couldn't because they already found the people they were gonna interview, right? like...if we were simply taking recommendations, then they would be interviewing directors everywhere all year long...
Chernobyl isnt reccomendation!!! It is the best show of the year maybe last 5 years
@@MsJilsephonie Agreed!
Highly likely they were unavailable - As are most directors - especially as they put Patti on this table, and her show hasn't even been released.
Such a good table. They all respect each other and never try to one up the other! They are humble also.
I love these round tables. Please never stop doing these.
Never heard of Ava DuVernay, but after this want to see everything she's done.
Watch "when they see us" on Netflix.
@@treshamarque1165 just got done watching it. Blew my mind that it was a true story
one of the best roundtable videos
It's such a breath of fresh of air to enjoy these without Stephen Galloway ruining them. The interviewer is great
right?
Here for AVA...❤❤😌
Me too!
To be honest! lol 😉
I’m here for Ava
Great THR vid. What a spectacular group of talent tonite! Im a huge fan of Adam's Vice and The Big Short. I cant wait to see Pattys Wonder Woman sequel . She did such an amazing job with the 1st one 👍❤
Sorry
WW84 is bad
I’m just here for Ava talk about when they see us 🤷🏽♂️. But i appreciate the other directors too
i'm sure she would have thought of family and friends if turbulence kept getting worse.
but she had time to make sure she had her business in order.
another great interviewer from this channel
Was hoping to see Miguel Saphochnik there too. It’s amazing how he blends a lot of genres in the battles sequences.
Just here for Queen Ava.
Great artists.
AVA🙌🙌🙌🙌
Wow! What a table!!
Doesn't have anything to do with this, just wanted to say Joe Dante's Jaws 3 was gonna be titled "Jaws 3, Humans 0." Sorry just learned that and it's too cool not to share it in the closest comments section to me.
Only here for Queen Ava DuVernay
Big fan of the Killing so was excited that Patty Jenkins was coming back to TV, man was I disappointed!!
she directed the killing? the one with Joel Kinnaman??
@@MsJilsephonie The first two episodes and the S2 finale I believe. Served as producer and she was nominated for a directing Emmy for the Pilot!
Need another composers roundtable! It's been too long since one.
They did one this year
@@thr3385 There was a 'Short Cut' roundtable about a year ago with Ludwig, Hans and Terrance, but no full table, hour long segment like they used to do.
Can't wait for ava's next movie
Anyone know what's up with Adam McKay's weird chair? Is he ok? I hope so, that guy rules.
He suffers from essential tremors, he (very comedically) mentioned it during the 2019 DGA Nominees interview where he also had a special chair and didn't want people to think he was just being a diva.
Do I win a goldfish here?
Day Made! Keep 'em comin'! 💖
Love u Ava !!
Ava!
finally they uploaded it . Ava is QUEEN 👑
Adam McKay actually directed Stiller in Anchorman.
This was great and Jean Marc is hilarious!!!
Nope.
Resit in Power Jean-Marc Vallée!
is Adam okay? He has a different chair and he's slouching.
he has a tremor, it's old news but every interview he has a high chair so he can do that.
could we get less of David Nutter WTF
Why is Adam McKay's chair different than everyone else's'?
back problem?
He has a neurological disorder that causes tremors. That chair probably makes him more comfortable.
He has essential tremors, so needs some kind of support for his back/neck
Easily one of my favorites.
I thought cliffhangers came from Arthur Conan Doyle and when he (and others) published their work on a weekly basis, and in one of the papers Winston was literally hanging on a cliff ...
Na it was Dickens and his work Oliver twist where cliffhangers were first used
Adam funny as hell he the chillest one there .
Ava 😍
Can someone ask what to do with a good story and no outlets???...
Ben Stiller when people make a story about you keep that same energy 🤨 You changed Tilly to make it more awards acceptable
Succession is the best show on TV at the moment
Will check it out
whats up with adam mckays chair?
He has a neurological disorder that causes tremors. That chair probably makes him more comfortable.
his answer to the coffee cup controversy was pathetic lol
1st Q: bulls*it detector activated. 20 years ago film people totally looked down their noses at TV folks. Ask anyone. Own it folks.
Shout out to 'Barak' Obama
Whis is the guy in a different chair?
Essential tremors.
lol get fucking real here…...Patty Jenkins is most famous for directing Wonder Woman which isn't a tv show. Adam McKay is most famous for directing The Big Short (oscar nomination) which again isn't a tv show. Ava DuVernay is most famous for directing Selma (oscar nominated) which isn't a tv show either……..This is as stupid as say having a panel with oscar winners and have Suiside Squad represented…….
Ben Stiller isn't in the picture and Jean Marc Vallees name isn't in the name of the video. Weard decisions.
Barack Obama*, there's a typo.
Game Of Thrones was a complete failure and the fact that they cancelled last minute on comic con
Adam Mackay is a clown!😅
old white guy: hey I never thought that actors playing roles where they are treated so horribly for long periods of time would benefit from counseling in between takes................ugh of course not. that is why more POC need to be behind the scenes in addition to in front of the camera.....
Let's be a bit fair and not stereotype. He has had counselling in the past for certain scenes in his movies, and was genuinely interested and appreciative of a different perspective from one of his peers. In future I'm sure that's going to be a priority for him which ultimately benefits everyone.
The argument about representation is valid and exciting, however the sentiment expressed here could be seen as counter-productive.
@@peekabooicancu he said he never thought of doing the therapy thing on set....why are you claiming that he has done so? and pointing out that him being a straight white cis-male is not stereotyping. cis straight white men are the least oppressed people on the planet. and it takes all those diff forms of privilege to have a "blind spot" when it comes to the amount of trauma even in acting could trigger some really intense feelings.
Everything Ava touches turns to crap.
Ava Duvernay is incredibly overrated. POLITICS!
Agree
@@rafaewald go watch "when this see us."
Really? I'm loving her stuff. Queen Sugar, When They See Us, 13th, Selma have all been really good. I even liked a large part of a Wrinkle in Time but it was more the beauty and setup of it. The editing or flow felt off.
@@TNDCBaby Hopefully she will get some tips from Patty Jenkins for The New God's movie. I'm excited for it!
@@Destyn2b Maybe but I feel like that oen movie was her only misstep, in the work that I've seen. I feel like she can handle it and those movies get waaay more screen time so you don't have to try and fit a larger story into a kid's film amount of time. It mainly faltered because it should have been a mini series.

BEAT POW KUNG FU PANDA 🐼👆
Game of Thrones, When They See Us, Ben Stiller and Patty "Wonder Woman" Jenkins? Yea...I'll be coming back to this later soaking it all in lol These interviews seem to be getting better and better
I loved Ben Stiller throwing subtle shade about the 10 hour days on game of thrones sets . "Give them a lunch break"
this is the most mixed bag of tricks I've seen in a while and I love it.
Rebecca Ford, when you gonna go on Collider Live?
Do I win a goldfish here?
Came for Ben Stiller and Patty Jenkins. Stayed for Ava and David. Great table, thank you THR!
Why would u come for Patty Jenkins
She’s so full of herself
Jean-Marc Vallee is a genius for Young Victoria, Dallas Buyers Club, Wild, Big Little Lies, & Sharp Objects!
I appreciate Ben Stiller as a director after Reality Bites. I'm glad to see Vallee & Stiller are so thoughtful.
I really appreciated the Dallas Buyers Club. The film was so enlightening.
Anyone here after the death of jean-marc valee?
Patty Jenkins, Jean Marc, ana Ava...brilliant and informative!
I'm glad there were no spoilers. I'm on episode 6 of Sharp Objects.
Jean-Marc Vallée RIP 😢
People should check out some of the very impressive work of this roundtable. I strongly recommend Adam Mckay's powerful film, The Big Short. Just an outstanding movie that doesn't get the high-profile buzz that it deserves.
This was a good mix of directors, I'm a big fan of all of them.
Classy and informative.
I think alot of movies that have been released would have worked better as a series.valerian and the city of a thousand planets is one example of that. When they see us,great series btw,saw the documentary years ago.
It's so inspiring seeing everyone together like this discussing their experiences.
Here for PATTY!
The one guy's voice is painful.
He speaks the same way as Mike Tyson.
Love the moment at 12:20 when the moderator asks whether anyone stepped into a project and thought "I'm not ready for this": camera intuitively cuts straight to Ava Duvernay whose face says "I'm not going there."
@beyone queen The assumption is that as a woman of colour she will be the most likely candidate for Imposter Syndrome - and she declined buying into that like a Boss.
Queen Ava
Is this humanly possible and acceptable to resist Jean-Marc Vallée??!!He certainly knows how to put his actors at ease before digging the very nasty and dirty stuff..
one of the best episode
Rebecca Ford, when you gonna go on Collider Live?
Audio video sa alag baat chau. Band karwa.
FINALLY!
Ab kiccho baaj. Kiyo . Pilla hemma.
Rebecca Ford, please go on Collider Live.
Adam is always hilarious
Patty is just a gem😍😍😍 so are the others
RIP Jean-Marc Vallée ❤️
composer round table
Ava I'm tryna see YOU tho, what's up baby
Lol... ikr
Looks like she's into Jean-Marc.
jean-marc is killing me
Here for Ben Stiller.
