Hi Ms. Kim. Thank you for a wonderful tutorial. Glad you are learning to sew. I took sewing classes at my local community college. I learned that I need to have two pairs of scissors; One pair for the fabric and the second pair for paper. Just a tip I want to share with you and whoever reads my comment. Thanks!!!
And that is a fabulous tip! My mom is adamant about two pairs of scissors. She even wrote on hers, but I made a little label for mine. 🤣 Thank you so much for sharing and for crafting with me! 💕
Good morning Kim. This past September I started learning to do embroidery and to sew, Which i've come to find so fun and relaxing. I have a birthday this week and my sister's sent me a cricket machine. The air 2, I am delighted to see how excited to see how I can Incorporate fabrics, embroidery, and sewing with with my new Cricut!! Great tutorial and teaching!
Hey Sheryl! You're going to have so much fun with your machine. There are so many fun things to make and I agree, it's like therapy! Happy birthday and happy crafting! 💕
Thank you , yes I am new to the Crichton , and worried about getting started m the sewing is the same , so like you , ever to late to learn , sadly I no longer have my mum , and when I did I wasn’t interested in this sort of thing . But enjoyed watching what you showed us , so thank you and good luck with future work , I have just noticed this vlogg was two years ago , so I am sure your really experienced by this time l
Thanks so much for crafting with me Karen. Sorry to hear about your mum. Time is precious. And you're right, we have made a few more projects since then. 😀 I'm pushing her to help me make a quilt, but that is a big undertaking. We'll see. Happy crafting!
I have just completed an EPP quilt in liberty , it was 9x9 ft . I sent it for quilting and I could have sold it a couple of times while these hehe . My granddaughter wants me to make her one as likes it so much . Hehe at least it would be as big as. It had got very heavy . I would send you a pic if I was able . Thanks again
I really enjoyed your video. There are several videos out there but this one was clear and showed each step with detail. I’m new to sewing as well and would like to purchase a cricut maker. This video was helpful to understand how to use a cricut with sewing projects. Thank you!
I’ve just seen your bonding video on bonding fabric (5mths ago). I have just bought a sewing machine and I’m so excited about your sewing video. My mother in law is teaching me at the moment as she is staying with us, but unfortunately she’s lives 200km away. Will look out for your video. Thanks Gill UK
So glad you found it helpful Gill! My mom used to live states away too. I completely understand! My next sewing video is scheduled and I'm excited to share it in two weeks. Thanks so much for crafting with me! 😊💕
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I came across your channel *by this video* after I inherited my grandmothers sewing & embroidery machines and I was searching for easy ways to ease into the sewing/ applique world. I am hoping that you are still planning on posting videos from a beginners perspective for sewing, I know it would be beneficial for a lot and I know you would enjoy the extra time spent with your mom ♡
Hi Averie! I'm so glad you're here and yes I am still planning on it. 💕 We're actually making some stool covers right now that I'm hoping to post next week. My mom hasn't been able to sew for a bit, but we did make a Easter basket liner in March: ua-cam.com/video/fAKCCRzdrlg/v-deo.html AND I'm hoping this summer she'll have more time! 😀 Any suggestions on what you'd like to make?
This video is fantastic, but I have to say the simple thing that caught my eye….you keep your tape measure tidy with a binder clip…🤯 🙌🏼👌🏼Whyyy have I never thought of this?!?! 🤦🏻♀️
So thrilled you found it helpful Dennis! My biggest tip is to just make sure you prewash your applique fabric so that it doesn't shrink after you've applied it. Happy crafting!! 😀💕
So thrilled you found it helpful Matilda! My biggest tip is to just make sure you prewash your applique fabric so that it doesn't shrink after you've applied it. Happy crafting!! 😀💕
Thank you for showing us how to cut fabric. This is what I had wanted to do when I bought my Maker but have not tried it yet. I have not seen anyone else doing it, so thank you. I learned how to sew when I was in junior high and high school. I have sewn some since then but really been a lot of years. I have noticed there are a lot of new techniques. I am excited about you learning to sew from you mom. I would love to watch anything that you put on UA-cam with learning to sew.
Awesome video! It is so crazy just this morning I was thinking that I really wanted to try appliqué and then hear your video is! So appreciative and I can’t wait to try it myself thank you! ❤️♥️❤️
So glad the video was timely! I've wanted to do this for a few years and just never dove in. Now that I have, I expect I'll be doing a lot more applique with my Cricut. So excited on how the appliques turned out. Hoping my nieces and nephews like the little bags! 😊 Thanks for watching and happy crafting! 💕
So, so sweet. I’m hoping to use this technique to make a custom college sweatshirt 🤞🏻. But these napkins would be a great gift for my mama. Thank you for making such a clear how-to!! ❤
I've actually been thinking about making a sweatshirt this week too! I will caution you to make sure you preshrink your fabric before you cut and sew it on! You'll get much better results. 💕 Thanks for watching and happy crafting!!
Yes, I want to learn to sew and I do mad stuff with my Circut. Please pleas, there is such a need for these types of tutorials. I learned to sew in high school but I need to really step up my skills.
Hey Jane! So glad you like the video and you're along for the ride. 💕 I have a lot of fabric ideas planned for this fall and winter. So excited. As a matter of fact, I just shared my new little sewing spot yesterday. ua-cam.com/video/x05TjwZQp7Y/v-deo.html Happy crafting!!
Great Video! I was wanting to do ballerina shapes using fabric on small totes for my granddaughters B'day party. You made it look so easy and will save a lot of time using my cricut and heat bond. I can embellish with tulle, ribbon flowers and ribbon. Thanks for sharing!
So glad you liked the video Debra! I just set up a new sewing space ua-cam.com/video/x05TjwZQp7Y/v-deo.html , made a little bunting decoration and now I'm dreaming of making some Christmas presents! What projects are you making? 💕😊
I'm new to your channel and right from the start you had me hooked. Loved your video and will be excited to join in the learning to sew to upgrade my skills. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, much appreciated.
After you peel the backer off if you will use just a tiny bit of fray check just on the edges it will help keep your project together….keep it to the very edge if your going to add stitches and allow to dry before you iron.
Hey Linda! Yes! I'm planning a video on setting up my little sewing spot for the first week of June. And my mom and I are talking about what some easy and fun beginner level projects should be. If you have any ideas of simple sewing projects you'd like to make, I'd love to hear! 💕😊
Hey k! I've not, but if you can fit the design on the mat the Maker or Explore will cut it for you! I would only caution to prewash your fabric so that any shrinkage happens before you apply. Happy crafting! 💕
Thank you for this! Do you have any suggestions for tranfering intricate detailed shapes like fireworks? I am trying to transfer firework shapes to my daughter's ice skating dress without having to rearrange every single strip of fabric that will be cut out and want to keep it "welded/attached".
Oh wow I bet that is going to be so lovely! Unfortunately I'm not sure how you could. Unfortunately fabric isn't like vinyl or HTV where they get to use a transfer sheet. I hope it works out and she loves it!! 😍
Hello! I’m new to your channel and cricut. Thank you. I enjoyed learning how to place small pieces of fabric to cut in one pass. 😊 I just wanted to mention there are different weights of heat & bond. Hey Susan! Thank you for the note and for the details on heat n bond. I'm still learning and I did know much of what you shared, but we're all a different levels of learning so the more info the better! 💕 I would never cut more than one layer of fabric at a time with my Cricut personally. The holiday are coming and you'll love it!
Have you ever attached your appliqué directly on to HTV? I've created an offset iwith HTV and then pressed the appliqué on to the HTV. Just curious if you may have tried this and what you thought.
I should have explained! I use the green mat with bonded, stiffer fabric. I find it does better for me. The pink fabric grip mat is great for all the softer materials. Thanks so much for the question Olivia! Happy crafting! 💕
Hey Rawya! I've not ever tried, but I would go into Design Space and pull up the fabric options with the Cricut Maker and it will tell you. It can cut over 100 types of fabrics so your chances are good! Thanks so much for watching and happy crafting!
Hey Connie! Thanks for crafting with me! Do you mean to cut a letter out of the bunny shape? The Cricut will make all the cuts at the same time, however you set it up in Design Space. 💕
One idea that I do is: you said you like to cut all the different colored pieces on one mat yeah? I do too! I keep all the different colors in one area like you (one on top , another color in another corner, etc) but on design space I keep my shapes all one color, that way the machine will cut all the pieces in one go and you won’t need to load and unload your mat for the next different color.
Hey Erin! I didn't have any fraying issues, but I did have a little bit of shrinking. Not bad and it ironed out, but I think it was because I washed on warm instead of cold. Just be mindful when you was yours. Thanks so much for watching and happy crafting! 💕
Instead of reloading the mat multiple times for the appliqué cuts in different colors, would it not be easier to go into Design Space, place squares on the canvas at the corners, place your letters on top of the squares, then click the "eyes" to make the squares not cut? That way, the letters cut in the center of each square, in different fabrics, all in one pass.
Unfortunately the Joy doesn't cut fabric. If you decide to try it, I would use a thin fabric that I've backed with something like Heat and Bond. Happy crafting!
Great video but we can't cut fabric can we with the Cricut Joy can we? Also... I don't know where else to do but I have a question. I was doing a project on the Joy and it stopped in the middle, so I said to "quit".. and it stopped, but now the mat is stuck in the middle and I can't pull it out! There is now nowhere on the DS screen to said "unload" and of course, no button on the Joy. How do I get the mat out? I don't want to force it and have looked everywhere in Design Space "help" and can't find an answer! Is there a good forum somewhere to get help like this, and do you know how I can get the mat out??? Thank you so much!!!!
Hey Marilyn! Eeek! That is a tough one. I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but I guess I would just unplug it. I've had that happen to my Maker before, but not my Joy. Hope you get back to crafting soon! Oh, and you are correct. The Joy can't cut fabric. Thanks so much for watching! 💕😊
Just found out answer! I just unplugged machine and then plugged it back in!!! Duh. But stilll.. do you know of a good place to go ask questions like this???
Good morning Evelyn! I'm sorry you found the tutorial complicated. Thanks for the feedback. I'm working on having more callouts and things in my videos as I go to help viewers follow along. Love your willing to teach us some sewing tips to add to our Cricut cut outs! Thanks! Cute Easter Project!

Also you can use steam a seam which is easier and softer. Make sure you steam your fabric if it needs it so the bond goes into the fabric.
Thanks for the tip Terri! 💕😊
Super cute! Have you ever printed anything larger? I want to make a superhero cape for my son

Thank you for this informative video. I’m new to Cricut.
Can a regular iron be used?
Hi Frances! Yes. You can use an iron, just don't use the steam function. Happy crafting and thanks for watching! 💕
I’ve been wanting to make faux patches for jeans. I have heat n bond and didn’t know how to use it. Thanks 😊
That sounds like so much fun! I have some that could use a darling patch! 💕

Hello! I’m new to your channel and cricut. Thank you. I enjoyed learning how to place small pieces of fabric to cut in one pass. 😊
I just wanted to mention there are different weights of heat & bond. Heavy or ultra is for when you don’t plan to sew around the edges; lightweight is easier to sew through, and you need to sew down the edges if you plan to wash the item afterward.
There are also different brands, as well as weights, of iron on stabilizer and each one has different instructions for how to apply it, length of time, steam or not, etc.
I noticed when you hit the drop down menu that there were options for multiple layers of fabric. How does that work? I was told by others you can’t do this or the upper layers will move around while cutting. (Mine is still in the box 😂)
Hey Susan! Thank you for the note and for the details on heat n bond. I'm still learning and I did know much of what you shared, but we're all a different levels of learning so the more info the better! 💕 I would never cut more than one layer of fabric at a time with my Cricut personally. I've not heard of anyone cutting multiple layers at a time. What you likely saw in the dropdown was roughly 200 types of fabric that the Cricut can cut.
That said, if anyone knows a trick to cutting multiple layers I'm all ears. I love a good tip!
Thanks so much for watching and I hope you open the box very soon! The holiday are coming and you'll love it!

Have you ever made Quilting Labels ? Im a quilter who bought the Maker 3 specifically for labels & having a hard time accomplishing it ! Any help ?
I’ve not! Tell me how you would use the maker. Is it a print on fabric and then the maker cuts the fabric?
Have you ever attached your appliqué directly on to HTV? I've created an offset iwith HTV and then pressed the appliqué on to the HTV. Just curious if you may have tried this and what you thought.
I've not tried that yet Mandy! I'll have to put that on my list! 😀💕 Thanks so much for watching and happy crafting!

is there a reason you didnt use a fabric grip matt?
I should have explained! I use the green mat with bonded, stiffer fabric. I find it does better for me. The pink fabric grip mat is great for all the softer materials. Thanks so much for the question Olivia! Happy crafting! 💕
Hi, did you know if it can cut velvet fabric?
Hey Rawya! I've not ever tried, but I would go into Design Space and pull up the fabric options with the Cricut Maker and it will tell you. It can cut over 100 types of fabrics so your chances are good! Thanks so much for watching and happy crafting!
New to the Cricut - couldn't you get the cricut to cut out your basic shapes and then pass it through a second time for the letters etc?
Hey Connie! Thanks for crafting with me! Do you mean to cut a letter out of the bunny shape? The Cricut will make all the cuts at the same time, however you set it up in Design Space. 💕
LOVE LOVE THESE….
Thanks so much Rosi! 😊💕
One idea that I do is: you said you like to cut all the different colored pieces on one mat yeah? I do too! Hey Taye! I do that for vinyl, cardstock, iron-on, I should do that for fabric too. 💕 Thanks so much for watching and happy making!!

Yes it can! 😊
I love this!! Do you know if there are any issues with fraying after washing?
