There have been many people commenting and saying that the frame pacing issues I've experienced are fixed if you change the game's rendering mode to Performance. I've since posted an Unlisted video demonstrating that this still happens, and it might even be worse. You'll find the video here so you can see for yourself: ua-cam.com/video/zwtqzX8tes0/v-deo.html
This was the first game I ever beat at 5 years old and I can't wait to replay it! I'd also love if they were to make a new Pac-Man World platformer. The butt-bounce is such a simple concept, but it also works out amazingly well; You feel as though you're playing as a bouncy ball. Limiting the butt-bounce to 3 in a row in Pac-Man World 3 is what killed the series for me.
So if they do make a new one, they better remove the limit to the butt-bounces and also expand on the concept with some modern ideas. If done right, they'll have a terrific and fun platformer that could compete with Mario.
Pac man world 2 is the one I reeeeeeeeally want so bad, that one was my childhood
I actually forgot that there were THREE of them until I made this video! I remember seeing PAC-MAN WORLD 2 on store shelves back in the day!
@@BacklogBattle yes! I remember the first time I played PacW2 was when my older brother rented it at blockbuster for me on my PS2, one of the best games I ever played as a kid. PacW3 tho from what I remember was weird to me mainly because Pac-Man got an actual voice actor unlike the other 2 games. For some reason it always creeped me out 😂
Biggest complaint on this game is easily how much they screwed up the butt bounce move. The PS1 version was super responsive to a bunch of butt bounces in a row whereas this new version has a weird delay in between presses that resulted in several unfair deaths in my first playthrough, especially when it doesnt give you enough time after landing on a bounce pad to spring off it before falling off it. So it's not just you there. Otherwise aside from King Galaxian being way too easy this time around I really loved this remake and saw so, so many improvements from the PS1 version.
Thanks for sharing! It’s a shame that the controls have problems. I thought it was simply a graphical performance issue
I want to grab a physical copy for switch now.
I'm surprised that a lot of these old namco platformers are starting to make a comeback but unfortunately it sounds like pacman is a little bit too experimental especially since they're using the 1st game as a basis rather than bringing all 3 games or at least bringing both the 1st game and the 2nd one. Plus all of those unfortunately's were already a list of nitpicks and there were a lot of them. Combined with the fact that it seems like the switch version has frame rate issues which that seems to be an M0 for the switch version of any game and you have a game that screams it needs to be patched. I may have no interest in getting this one but I will say this it was pretty funny to watch this review then be interrupted by an advertisement that guess what was an advertisement for this very game lol. Still a good review Alex!
LOL! That’s really funny that an ad for the game came up!
Apparently there's a performance mode you can toggle on for the switch which slightly lowers the resolution and gives you better FPS.
The Switch doesn't have frame rate issues bruh. You have two modes to choose from: performance mode (60 fps, 720p resolution) and resolution mode (1080p resolution, 30 fps)
@@homiesayo99 Yeah I got it last night. Performance was pretty bad in resolution mode. But switching it to performance mode seemed to fix the stuttering almost completely
I hate that the switch version of games always seems to have frame issues, I got klonoa on ps5 but I really like the portability of the switch, so it's always a question of should i sacrifice framerate for portability. I'm sure its not that bad on switch, I just wish they were closer in performance so I didn't have to contemplate it.
I haven't had great luck on the Switch lately. Prior to PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC, I also checked a game out on the Switch and realized it had a major, repeatable crash at the first boss. Granted, it's been fixed now, but that's 2 out of 2 Switch games that I haven't had good luck with!
The framerate might not be perfect, but you'll get use to it. Of course, it's no excuse for them to do a poor job on that version.
Literally got an ad for Re-Pac
I keep getting Certa-Pro Painters for ads lol
I feel like the framerate is because it's the switch version and maybe other last gen versions but I'm about to pick this up tonight on xbox series s this will be my first time playing pacman world 1 now I'm hoping they remaster world 2 so I can say I played all 3
Can you let me know how the performance is on that platform?
I remember renting the second game from Blockbuster. I’m interested in trying one out!
I somehow forgot that this was a trilogy!
PAC man is back , baby 🔥🔥
Metal Pac-Man VS Metal Mario
It's not much but at least you do get something even though it's a little achievement but it's something I usually don't go to 100% game sometimes I do I feel like I can 100% this game what all achievements I should say so it gave me the reason to use the dash attack on enemies
I'm glad you managed to fit this into your PACked schedule ;D
(Okay, I should probably apologize for that one xD)
I'm glad they managed to stick so close to the original, even if a few QoL features would have been nice, personally, the "physical release of an old game on modern platforms for a budget price" is one of my favorite trends that I hope more companies jump on.
And heck, maybe Bamco can get even more of their PSone classics out there *glares at Tales of Destiny*
Alex, if you get the chance, you should check out the cutscenes from the PS1 original, as they are comedy gold! 😂
I think I will!
This is in my backlog lol. Ironically I’m currently playing Pacman world 3 on psp and it has a much better camera and overall is a great game, but some of the levels are loooong!
Add it to the backlog and grab it on a deep sale
Guess this will be one of those games I'll wait for a sale when they release for patches
Oh, my muscle memory is definitely gonna have me butt bounce into oblivion too lol
Hope this does well enough to justify the same treatment for the sequel.
Here's hoping it will!
I was exptecting the game to not have the Ps1 design flaws and fps issues
so i'm a bit dissapointed to hear that
But my copy should be arriving tommorow
so i'm still a bit excited for it
Did you order it on the Switch?
@@BacklogBattle Yess
So far, just from looking at gameplay of the remake, I've noticed a few minor changes and additions. For one, Tok-Man now appears in new cutscenes preceding a boss, which was never a thing in the original. I do like this addition, as it gives him a constant presence throughout the game, rather than someone you forget about until you reach the final area. You also brought up that there wasn't any voice acting in this remake, which is surprising to me, because the original's opening and closing cutscenes both had voice acting, though they probably opted for mumble-speak all throughout to keep consistent with their new approach to the presentation.
Anyway, I played the original long after its release, but I enjoyed it for the most part. I thought it was a solid 7/10 platformer. It's been a while, so I'm not quite sure if the zoomed-in camera and poorly-conveyed safezones further down the level were present in the original, or if they're problems unique to this remake, due to the new game engine and art direction. One issue I'm hoping they've fixed was the original's iffy depth perception, because I often found myself misjudging jumps or gaps when moving away or toward the camera.
While I'm not in any rush to get this remake, I'm glad Namco's taking a chance on its more underrated backlog of games, Klonoa especially. This gives a whole new generation of players the chance to experience these games, as well as those who missed out and can no longer afford the originals. That being said, I do wish we got a full trilogy collection for Pac-Man World (maybe throwing in World Rally as a bonus), as the second game surpassed the first in a few ways. It could've also been a good opportunity to address issues with each game and add more substantial new content. If anything, World 3 needed a remake more than the others, as the overall game was underwhelming, relied too heavily on bland combat, and strayed from the platforming challenge of the first two.
I can definitely tell you that the depth perception is still a problem
@@BacklogBattle That's a shame. I always wondered if maybe the limitations of the original was the main issue, but I guess not. It wasn't a deal breaker for me, but I do remember my fair share of tumbling down holes like I'm trying to escape an M.C. Esher painting!
I definitely agree with everything you said, especially remaking World 3, since that game was considered as the "black sheep" by Pac-Man fans. Also, I wouldn't mind if they also make a 4th game in the future
@Travis Smith about 7 hours for me
See if you would have played this on Xbox or Playstation it would give you the reason to use the spin dash to attack enemies not that much of a reason but you will get an achievement or a trophy
LOL! You got me there!
@@BacklogBattle LOL I wasn't trying to get you at all I was just talking in general
Back when they announced this game i got really excited because i thought they were going to release all 3 of them like crash bandicoot and Spyro. I remember playing the 2nd one all the time back on the GameCube, I hope this one does well so we can get the 2nd game because i personally believe that was the best one. I already preordered this on ps5 along with soul hackers 2, cant wait for this Friday!
Not buying games on Amazon ever again, since I have to wait till 9/12 to play it
Dang
I guess I just don't pay attention to frames that much being distracted by other things in levels that I don't notice. Everyone mentions frames but unless there is a big slow down all at once in most games I don't notice. This is coming from someone that played Spiderman ps5 on 30 fps with ray tracing and didn't notice a difference in frames from the 60 fps setting tho.
You're quite lucky in that regard. Frame pacing issues like this one can cause physiological problems like people getting sick because of the constant juttering that happens. And couple that with how depth perception is also an issue with the game for some people (as mentioned in the comments), it's not a good combination.
@@BacklogBattle I didn't know it could cause those things in certain people. Thanks for educating me on that and also thanks for the review. I played this game as a kid and can't remember all of it but I do remember the game. I can't wait to give it a try my self.
Is the game 60fps on Switch?
You can change the rendering mode to Performance, but it isn’t a smooth 60fps and still has frame pacing issues
@@BacklogBattle Guess I’m going PS5
In the options change from resolution mode to performance mode. That will improve the framerate.
Frame pacing is even worse in Performance mode
@@BacklogBattle What??? That it's not for me. Are you sure you set it to performance mode?
@@jackiexkh see for yourself:

Kind of unfair to knock performance and not even mention the performance mode the game has?

@@BacklogBattle oh nice, that didn’t appear pinned for me correctly on mobile when I commented. No need to be so rude :/
