  • Chiang Mai is a top destination in Thailand for those vacationing and for Digital Nomads and Expats alike. Living in Chiang Mai for a month, we now understand the draw it has for all those who find their way here. From vibrant street markets, laid-back neighborhoods, serene temples, and bustling nightlife, this city has something for everyone. If you are planning to visit Thailand - Chiang Mai is a destination that should be on your list!
    We're excited to explore the amazing Wat Phra That Doi Suthep temple with our friends @ProbablyLost (Hannah and Trey) followed by a few beers and amazing street food at Lanna Square market in Old Town Chiang Mai.

    Ahhh, great to see Hannah and Trey in your video. I love both sets of UA-camrs' travel series around Europe and Asia. I find your slow travel and the costings super-interesting, and Probably Lost''s fast travel guides brilliant for planning weekend city breaks. Because of them, I have been to Sofia, Barcelona, Budapest and Copenhagen in the last few months!!

    Totally cool if this isn’t a video you want to make Carrie. However, it is so obvious that Carrie stays in great shape. Brian you are very handsome, but I’m so interested in Carries routine while traveling. I think she does morning walks before the day starts. Carrie do you go to the gym, yoga, running, weights etc.? Just curious 🧐

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  Рік тому +1

      Hi Noelle! I try to incorporate exercise how I can based on where we are staying. In Chiang Mai we had a gym in our building so we hit that most mornings. In our place in Croatia we we in a building with 18 floors, so I would do that 3 times each morning. If we have room in our Airbnb we will do workout videos on UA-cam. I will also walk in the morning if that's the option but we walk a lot already (9 miles yesterday alone) so that's not my first choice 🤣🤣. It's not easy to keep a routine, but it's doable.

We are considering planning our first trip to Thailand from the Eastern US - how many days would you suggest we need to cover at least Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and possibly Phuket? We're huge foodies and appreciate you taking us to all of the local markets.

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  Рік тому +1

      We would say three days in each place. In Chaing Mai, you want to see all the temples plus you may want to go to the Elephant sanctuary, something that we didn't do. We saved our money for Ha Long Bay. Bangkok has day trips as well as temples that you don't want to miss. We really enjoyed both and the food is amazing!!! We are in Vietnam now and will be heading back to Southern Thailand in mid-March, Phuket we may visit in April. Thank you for watching and safe travels!!

      Hi Roger, the street food venders probably are not able to avoid cross contamination. There are plenty of options that don't sell any kind of sea food to choose from, however. Peanut allergies would also be a big problem.

      I think the commonsense precautions are best. It would be difficult to navigate the way you have with a food allergy. We did address it in a video coming out in a couple weeks. Nice video! I've heard about the smoky season. Sorry it has already started, but glad you are having a great time!
    I have one random question. If you use two factor authentication to access some of you accounts, what is your 2FA method of choice? I've been going crazy trying to figure out how to use 2FA for my various accounts once I cancel my cell phone plan. Seems like a lot of accounts won't send a 2FA code to a voip number (like Google Voice). If you've got a good solution, I'd love to hear. Thanks and keep 'em coming! 🍻

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  Рік тому +1

      Hey there, sorry for the late reply we've been out of range. This has been a bit of a issue but as long as we set up the Google voice numbers before leaving the states we have found the majority of sites with dual authentication have worked. What I did do on the last time home was set up Google Fi. I used it while home and then paused service as soon as we arrived. You can pause for 3 months at a time. This gives me local number banks recognize and if I need it I put in my Google Fi sim card, activate and I'm good to go. Not the easiest or cheapest solution but it's works for us. Hope that helps

    • @oldachyrunner
      @oldachyrunner Рік тому

      @@BrianandCarrie That is helpful. Thanks for the detailed reply!
      I've been testing the various accounts that I use multi factor authentication with and not all worked using my Google Voice number. For several accounts, I was able to change from having an SMS message with a security code sent to my phone to having the code emailed to me. For another account I could setup Symantec VIP Access (free app), and another account let me use the built in authenticator on my Google Pixel phone. One bank account only uses SMS messages to send the security code (and won't work with Google Voice), so I'm looking into closing that account and opening another account that uses email or an authenticator app. I had no idea life could get so complicated if you don't want to have a phone. Crazy!
      Glad you had a great time in Thailand and I'm looking forward to your next adventure! Cheers! 🍻

    Hi Guys - how was the air quality in the Nimman area? Were you comfortable (from an air quality perspective) walking? Did you walk to Old City? Thanks. We planned 3 weeks in Nimman, but read that the air quality in Chiang Mai is poor.

      We did walk to the old town several times. It is about a 20-to-30-minute walk. The best time of year to go is Dec-Feb. The air quality is still good until late February. After that, it is burn season and the air quality can be really bad. We left just in time. 🍻

    Common trick to let you out half way there if you made the mistake of paying up front. Live and Burn.

      We actually didn't pay up front, he was just taking us to another truck down the road but didn't say that and then wanted full payment.
