Fell in love with this gun the moment I saw it in Tomorrow Never Dies when Bond says, “Ah, the new Walther. I asked Q to get me one of these.” Hands down one of my favorite pistols in my collection. I wish Walther would make the PDP’s with the paddle mag release. I’ll take that over a button any day.

I understand why it’s going , but it’s still sad. If you have a pdp and this you know why it’s leaving too. It’s getting dated and walther is no glock hanging on to the same thing forever. The new guns are just this gun evolved. Luckily, tons of p99 are out there and you can get one easy for cheap. Do not be afraid to get a used one from a reputable seller, and walther has great customer service. If you happen to get a bad one, they will fix it up for you. If you could only get one I recommend the PDP. I’ve seen them as low as 479.99 brand new as of 2/2023. I had the pdp compact and traded it in for the pdp-f . It’s marketed for females but that was a mistake by them. The slide reciprocates smoother, is easier to slingshot. The trigger is better , and the grip is better for my hands. You can still adjust it with back straps, it just has more range now for sizing . Try one out if you get the chance

I fell in love with the original P99 when a shooting buddy of mine managed to buy one an I shot it at our Range.
However, I never managed to get one, as they were scarce, and dealers who had them, wanted ridiculous prices for them.
Instead, I settled for an original Canik TP9V1, which has proven to be an excellent Pistol, with a few refinements
the Walther did not have. Until quite recently, my Canik TP9 was my favorite EDC, until the Illinois AWB
ruled it's Magazine Capacity illegal for carry. I will happily go back to it, should that problem be remedied.
Also, Canik did not get completely away from the Slide Mounted Decocker. A new version of that Pistol,
the Canik TP9DA has the Decocker, but only on the Left Side of the Slide. Were I to lose my TP9V1,
I would very happily buy a new TP9DA.

MIne is the P99 DOA 9mm which I purchased around 2005 brand new. It came with a 15 round magazine. My guess is that the double action only (DAO) trigger was meant to be a safety feature when it was first designed. Although it requires a very long travel it's a very accurate and comfortable handgun. It came with several backstrap options.
Recently I had a serious issue with it. After multiple shots, the casings failed to eject and remained in the barrel so tight that I needed to push them out with a wooden chopstick. I tried to purchase another barrel online but couldn't find one. I called Walther and explained my problem. I was told the gun came with a limited lift-time warranty. Can you imagine that? I asked Walther if I could purchase a new barrel. The told me they are very rare and required me to return the gun for an inspection.
When it was returned a few weeks later, the barrel was replaced and Walther seemed to have fixed whatever the problem was. Walther has extremely good customer service. I wonder if they still have life-time warranties on any of their guns that we don't have to pay extra for.

When i was a young teen my friend shot me point blank with a gas airsoft version of the p99. The bb ricocheted off of my front tooth, shattering it into 100 pieces and cracking it up to my nose. We learned a lot that day. That being said, i still have the bb gun, and plan on getting an original p99.

I had owned the P5 for a number of years. Just couldn't get to like the double action feature. The slide release is the decocker button as well. Compact and exotic but only 8 rounds. So for 8 rounds, it wasn't compact enough. Finally sold it.

I bought the Canik TP9 DA and, in my opinion, is truly an improved version of the Walther P99, even though my favorite handgun manufacturer is Walther GmbH, and my favorite models are the PDP and PDP Pro SD, thus Canik is number two for me, whereas the METE SFT and SFT Pro are my 2 favorites, followed by my deep concealed carrying favorite gun: the TP9 Elite SC.

Ooof I cringe seeing that model of TP9. We carried those as contractors in Kandahar Airfield and they were garbage. We had no idea who what a Canik was since we were told we were getting Glocks and or Berettas. No one trusted the de-cocker, not really good/ reliable with a lil sand in it which all of Kandahar is and windy. Floor plates came out of magazines in quals, no holsters. Great vid I always wanted a P99 hopefully a final edition.

interesting that this video dropped today, last weekend I traded my PDP-C for a Ruger Security .380, the PDP was Too big for my purposes, but it fit in my hand SO well, and shot so well, today I went out and got me a Walther PPQ branded Umerex air pistol, I can just imagine a P99 would like an old friend in the hand....

In my opinion the Walther P99 is the best looking striker fired handgun ever made and I will die on that hill. I just really like the beveled slide that isn't shaped like a brick. I also think the anti stress trigger is very innovative and practical. Walther is making a big mistake by discontinuing this legend.

The PPQ replaced the P99? I thought it was released along side the P99. My only complaint about the P99 QA fullsize .40 cal. is the lack of choice when it comes to holster selection. My Glock and Sig friends are able to jump around cheaply for addons and holsters, while I struggle to accept the higher prices for Walther accessories.
Either way, I've had and trained with my Walther P99 since 2006 and wouldnt trade it for anything else.

    Nice overview.
One note on disassembly: There's no reason to ever pull the trigger before breaking the pistol down. Proper procedure is to press the decocker if it's not already in DA mode, then continue as shown.
One of (IME) the most unique things about the P99 (AS) is that the trigger is always active. There's no situation in which you'll end up with a 'dead trigger' like you will on other striker fired guns. Decocking the striker just puts the trigger into DA mode (long and heavy pull), it does not render it incapable of firing. A side benefit of this is a "second strike" capability, where if the round fails to go off on the first pull of the trigger, it can be pulled immediately again for another attempt without having to cycle the slide.
I will very much miss seeing this in Walther's product line.

For me, this pistol will always be synonymous with the second Underworld movie where Kate Beckinsale ("Selene") was dual-wielding a pair of these with a two-tone finish.

That movie made me buy a Titanium Gen1 P99 when I found one for sale.
      Mine even has the laser.
I had Jarvis make me a threaded barrel and compensator. I sometimes shoot it with a Rugged Obsidian suppressor too.
