Curious Probe - Fanmade Starcraft Cinematic Short

- Heyo! As a challenge for myself I decided to make a short Starcraft Cinematic. All modelling, animation and shaders have been done in Houdini from scratch. Rendered with Mantra and Renderman. Sound and motion design in Adobe Audition and After Effects. Final compositing in Nuke and editing in Vegas. It took me roughly 72 hours to put it together. Hope you like it! ^^

Blizzard cut-scene level quality! I could easily be fooled into thinking it was from StarCraft II if I didn't know better. Imagine a full feature film at this level of quality and detail.

Doppler effect on the hellion got a good laugh out of me. Nice detail. That and the observation tower thingy in the back. Good stuff.

The character development is insane

This was so pretty. I would say it’s super close if not on par with Bliz and what they can do.
I liked that the hellion chased the probe off screen. It produces a lot of desire to see what happens next and builds anticipation. The gateway also just finishes so it implies some combat is about to happen next. Although in terms of build order, that's a very late gateway.
Well, it's a short video, but I think it's a good representation of what happens in the game. Especially cute when the probe runs away at the end. XD

God damn HELLION RUNBYS! I hate dealing with harass, so I usually turret up typical medivac/prism paths and a handful o funits to deal with runbys
I mean, if worker harass was less of a thing, I would have more fun.. it's always devastating when I don't notice something and oops, there goes an ENTIRE LINE OF WORKERS, now I'm taking 20 minutes to just die. Most times, I simply gg when I get harassed too hard. Heck the stress. I usually see when the player is better than me and offer early GG's, and just take that time instead to talk to my opponent about the match. To ensure he knows I'm not just trying to be an ass, I send him a bunch of my workers.

Lots of DoF to alleviate the work ; yet the expressions of the probe are almost Pixar-like, and the sound aspect sublimes the whole thing.

Wow well done! Really really rare to see anything star craft related nowadays since the RTS genre isnt so well received today and SC has such a steep learning curve.. But im so happy to see this!

Full movies must be made, for each story: Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. Imagine top cinematics on each movie with most of the story line we know, that
would be a dream come true for many of us, Starcraft players. And non players will be drawn to join gaming :)
