they didn't sell parts at the time i made this video but they do now on Aliexpress and ebay jst connectors , www.ebay.com/i... 180 motor , www.ebay.com/i...
I just discovered these WPL trucks on Ebay. I appreciate your detailed review of your WPL trucks; I suspected what some of the mechanical deficiencies would be, and you confirmed them. But I think that it's cool that these RC trucks are true 4wd and 6WD (B-16 "Deuce" and Ural trucks; maybe other trucks, too), and for a reasonable price. It seems with out -of-the-box RC vehicles, it's always about "upgrades" from the base vehicle to make it what it's supposed to be.
To save time I will say PLAN on upgrading it. When you buy it just accept that the plastic parts suck. Buy the metal 4 link bars, metal steering linkages, metal axle bridge/suspension mount piece, metal gears, and a better steering servo and electronics right from the start. I also got metal axle housings and steering knuckles just because I could. All in the parts are not that expensive and if you are on a limited hobby budget you can buy a little at a time but it sucks waiting on shipping. I just got everything I could find and afford at once so I can build it stock from the start and see what I break then put the upgrades where they need to be and I can compare stock vs upgraded to see what is needed and what is just making the right heavier for no reason.
Hi, do you still like your WPL? I just bought a c24-1 kit with a lot of upgrades like metal frame/shocks/servo arm, wheel weights and the metal single speed gearbox with 370 motor. Only thing that I haven't ordered yet is the metal 4x4 axle set from the WPL shop. Do you think that's a good/necesarry upgrade?
Great video! I drove my B24 about 6 inches and proceeded to gut out all the electronics and converted to a standard servo and Futuaba esc. Runs great now, still a few quirks to work out. Thanks for the link to the 180 motor and the info for the spare parts!
You can try "Ali Express" to order some parts for those. I have the WPL 6x6 and mostly really easy to find parts for them. Just keep in mind that it will take a while if you order them from China. I had no issues.
i know . they didnt sell parts when i made this video , for about a year people were just out of luck if something broke , i have aliexpress listed in the description
At the time i made the video they didn't offer any replacement parts , i changed my trucks over to metal gear and metal shafts months ago , still doesn't stop them from breaking down , i burned through 2 metal gear sets in a week with the stock battery and esc
Good info. Thanks. I'm watching this 2 years later. I am a newbie. I went a little crazy after watching way too many videos and seeing the potential of having a decent little crawler under $100 and bought the C14, C24 and B14 kits from BG. I built them and already see issues even without the electronics installed, i.e. the middle axle on B14 will need tinkering to stop intermittent binding with no load. It's going to break. Even so I went and bought another, the 44KM directly from WPL. WPL appears to be improving all the time but they are still toy grade and this information is still relevant. If you order from the WPL website they now offer upgraded metal kits. Their website sucks. I can check status of order on phone but not on my pc. The tracking app they use looked suspicious so I won't install it on my phone. I'd still buy the kits from them but for upgraded parts I would trust eBay or Amazon a little more.
For the b24 or whatever, what you could do is reverse wire the motor so that reverse is forward. Granted the controls would be backwards and you wouldnt have reverse, you could still drive it if you really wanted to
True , the only issue is that the reverse circuit isnt as powerful so it would be alot slower and have absolutely no torque but technically it would drive in kind of a limp mode , i made sure to order the receiver boards in bulk , funny thing is i replaced the board and it burned out in less than 3 minutes and the next board after that didnt survive the next hour , so i settled on just upgrading the motor and wiring , it works fine now but i basically just use it as a beater truck and as a disposable platform to test fireworks , like in the video where i blew it up
$5 servo, $10 esc, cheap fully proportional RTR radio and receiver (i like Losi/spektrum), replace whatever breaks with metal, and you've got yourself a decent little truck.
Very helpful! Thanks! I ordered one C-14 and also the dark blue military truck and I was planning on just driving them for fun. Thanks for the heads up I will order parts now!
I ordered the red one, the blue one is for a gift for a friend. I love trail trucks, I owned a full size 1/10 crawler before, but I sold that off recently
I ordered my b1 on wish that also have upgrade parts on there for all of the wpl trucks I am going to order new axles as well as the medal drive shafts and transfer case but It is really good to know as little bit more about my truck
Probably. Eventually. I'm gonna get the kit that comes with tracks and the 2 speed transmission kit, along with the metal drivetrain. She'll be a beast on 2s!
All true. These are actually very creatively "inspired" by Cross rc's...but they are very very expensive. These trucks are cheap and cheerful, just like we like 'em...especially the workability is amazing. These days they have tons of upgrade parts: sky is the limit.
Lucas air tool oil.. put that on your truck before you play with it it will not wear out the bushings I've been running for a little while now does not harm the plastic
The four wheeled trailer that you can buy I found it on Amazon it comes with that bridge cover that goes over the axle it comes with two axles with gears in them all I got to do is take him out and replace your old ones and put the old ones back on the trailer
I have yet to get my wpl 24 from amazon, but there was a thing about about parts for them, I hope so but if not 30$ is not much to learn to stay from a brand, and spend more for quality. thank you for the video
i know , i bought some an installed them in another video , trust me they are junk and not worth the extra money , the metal gears dont mesh right and you will burn them out in just a couple hours ,
@@TheRandomMechanic I was wondering that thanks for the info now I know not to waist my money I hsvent seen that video yet but didnt search to much yet either as i just found your channel
MY RANT ! I ordered a c24 kit .... got all the electronics ... 1) The problem is that with these kits you have to order all the other stuff, which might or might not make it on time. 2) The other problem is that these are made of cheap plastic. That is not even the worst of it. 3) The holes where most screws go in are not manufactured right and some screws just don't want to go in properly or straight. 4) In my case , the smallest amount of torque made the rear axle shaft snap out of place . 5) The plastic gears in the diffs tend to skip A LOT. so I had to do the washer mode so that they are pushed further in in order to mesh better. ended up having to order metal drive shafts and metal diff shafts and gears. 6) The grub screws in the metal shafts are of poor quality and the alan key supplied strips the head easily. so I had to order some steel spares. I also ordered the dual motor gearbox. 7) This rides too high ( which would be good normally ) but the metal drive shaft are at too much an angle , so they tend to bind a lot . So I had to lower the mounting holes of the gear box and now it rides about 2mm lower, which solved the issue. 8) Steering connections are sloppy and weak . Had mine snap before I even finished it, so I had to order the metal steering rods. In the meantime I made a longer arm out of a stiff paper clip, and mounted it on the other side , which did not have broken mount. 10) The manual is ok , but for one detail. Screws are not clearly identifiable. CONCLUSION! After all this shit, the kit came to cost me more than a 110 euros, parts are ridiculously expensive. I could have bought a much better RTR for slightly more ( FTX , RGT , REMO etc etc ) . I regret buying this, but I'm going to finish it off, otherwise it would really be money down the drain . Moral of the story ... get the RTR toy and be happy with it , and do not spend a dime more on it. If you want something decent there are loads of other options . P.S. The only positive/rewarding thing that I got out of this is making the lights switch on or off via the remote. I used a 2$ servo and used it's circuit to as a switch on channel 3. Got the info from youtube. very easy. Other than that .... uughh
I'm glad I watched this video. I cancelled my order because of your video. If they don't sale replacement parts I don't want it. The only good thing about these trucks is the price. Thanks for the info bud.
No problem , i quit trying to fix these trucks myself , i realized that after all the headache of tracking down the metal upgrade parts and the new electronics you might as well have just paid for an axial in the first place , because even after all the upgrades it still kinda sucks ,
I've got a C24 on order and got metal four link ordered for it as well and think it should fit C14 as well but ordered from geek Wich takes a while to come in but they do have many upgrades metal drive shafts axels bearing upgrades
I am aware of the metal parts i have made several videos about them and i have a ton of parts on order , at the time i made the video there were no parts available , you still can not get all of the parts , you cannot get replacement or upgrade door handles , rear view mirrors , windshield wipers ,direct replacement kc light bars or body pieces such as cab grill or windows , the metal gear upgrades for the stock axles have also been a total waste of money because they don't mesh right and will grind the teeth off inside a couple days .
I got those "keychains" with my wpl's I ordered a c14 and c24-1mk. Very disappointed in my kit. Everything wasn't metal. I spent 30 something for the c14 and like 40 on the 24. Plus 40 something on the electronics. I ordered upgrades when I ordered the trucks technically before because I got scammed had ordering the same trucks lucky I was able to get my money back. So the 24 was supposed to come with all metal upgrades plus the 2 speed transmission it didn't. Also like you the RTR blew up before I even got wheels on the ground!! Now I can't get the rc's to communicate with the replacement parts which are what WPL say's you should get. Sucks
How you found other RC parts that can e made to work on them? I got a shit ton of old emaxx frog and a dozen other makes and models parts left over from my RC trading days.. Ordered the B16 the other day. One more thing so a hot 550 would rip apart from to much power?
What you are experiencing with the transmitter binding is standard across 2.4 GHz technology. The limit that you were asking about is usually 16 vehicles. You are supposed to be careful and give yourself distance from other RC vehicles that are binding when you are binding yours, or you will run into issues of multiple vehicles binding to the same transmitter. I also had the same issue with the $8 scam artist, and had to file five claims as a result, but I didn't even get a trinket. Thanks for the heads up on the red and blue trucks, good to know about those adjustable shocks and the linkage issues.
i sure did , it took paypal 15 minutes to refund my money after filing the claim because they knew all about this scam lol , fastest return i have ever had and i got to keep the junkie keychains which i immediately set on fire after this video
Ha ha, perfect. Yeah it doesn't seem like the scam is going away any time soon, there always seems to be another pop up and skewer the pricing on these trucks, making it hard to tell who is honest on the middle ground.
true , honestly it is best to just stick to gearbest there really isnt anything to gain by ordering the trucks from ebay the price and shipping time frame is exactly the same , i noticed if you order two trucks they will ship the trucks alot faster , my last order only took a week and a half to arrive and that was two kit c-14's ,
thanks for this video, I Just ordered a C14 RTR model. I didn't realize that the Kit version has different elements compared to the RTR. So from you knowledge can you tell me what the differences are, other than the softer tires??
the kit version doesn't come with a battery , remote or receiver , it also has a different steering box it comes with a standard digital proportional servo and you provide the battery , radio and receiver
thanks for writing back. I knew all about the missing electric items, thats not what I am worried about. Can you tell me how the steering is actually different? Is the motor the same also? Is it a regular standard servo these use?
the ready to run version has a toy grade steering box when you steer it goes all the way to the left or the right so its pretty clunky , the kit version has a normal servo that you need to hook to a hobby grade receiver allowing you to steer as much or as little as you want , the motor will be the same junk 130 motor that i removed from my c14 you can order a better 130 motor for a kyosho mini-Z or get a 180 like i bought , they are available on ebay , amazon and various other hobby websites , hobby zone sells a 2 pack of 180 motors that have the breather holes in the case .
im curious is you can check your RTR C14 for me. I want to know if I can just replace the servo with a regular 1/10 scale RC one? Also the one in the kit version is it a standard size servo?
there is enough room for a standard servo you will have to make your own linkage , i think the one that comes with the kit is a smaller servo but i will be able to confirm that when the 2 kits i ordered come in i will make a video of those as well
the red one, but ill probably repaint it. is it possible to fit a standard 1/18 motor on it? and the servo that comes with the kit is a micro servo avaliable on ebay etc and most rc hobby stores. i want to make mine as durable i can so i can take it rock crawling. i was thinking of using electronics from the dromida touring car - waterproof 2 in 1 esc/reciever and brushed 370 motor , you think it will work?
i am not sure if the 380 is a good idea or not the 180 motor that i am running is already proving too much for the c14 i am replacing diff gears almost daily and breaking drive shafts left and right , need to find a replacement for the spider gears .
i got the truck today and the 380 wont fit for sure😊 but i got it running with the stock motor and dromida be18 esc reciever combo. the servo that came with the kit is a mini servo same size as in traxxas 1/16 cars.
I was really hoping these trucks were built a bit better, because the bodies look good and are detailed nicely. Although from the sounds of it, they can be made better with a little custom work.
they are alot of fun for very little money overall i think they are worth it , i was also hoping they were made better , it may sound weird but i kinda like that i have to make some parts and upgrade them a bit i like the challenge
those guys on ebay "1shopday" are not there anymore is there another seller that is selling all the B1 parts at those good prices all at one shop ? cheers for the tips also Brett
there were not any parts available at the time of the video , i am fully aware of the extensive list of parts , i have pretty much bought them all and i was dissatisfied with the quality of all of them , all of my trucks continued to break down on a daily basis even after full metal upgrades , i broke 2 metal gear kits in a week , i came to the conclusion that once i had $200 in a $30 rc truck and i still couldn't drive it for ten minutes without it breaking down then it just wasn't worth my time , finally just gave up on them and moved on to the next project ,
Can i use another transmitter for my WPL trucks without changing the receiving Board ?? I really don't like the transmitter the trucks came with ... I'd rather have a transmitter with speed on the left and steering on the right ... Those kind of transmitters !! I'm a bit new at this so i'm still learning and i learned a lot from your videos,Thanks !!
this is why people are modding with a pair of 2-300 RPM N20 gear motors (not 5 bucks). less power+speed, but much steadier torque to get through stuff without snapping everything
thats why they make metal gear upgrades , for people that like speed over torque , id rather break everything all the time than have the truck go super slow ,
can relate to that too. glad there's videos about these, on building one of the first things I did was washers behind the input shaft bushings and lock them in place, more stable and better mesh on axle bevel gears. went for the 2 geared 12v 300 RPM N20's and yes disappointing on 2S, just TOO darn slow, think WPL should re-visit their transmission with another reduction gear in there, a "crawler transmission" with a top speed about 5 mph (not 8-9) for good trail walking. the shaft's and U-joints definitely need to be 20% beefier in plastic versions. the N20's really didn't help for climbing torque on 2S, also disappointing is the second ya let off the throttle climbing, it rolls back downhill about same as stock trans (maybe a little slower). using a cheapo 20A brushed motor ESC and not willing to spend to go something 3S or 12v for these things. for what could be spent on a WPL now, you can about get a more capable crawler/bouncer for the same kind of money. for a budget unit, get a look at a Subotech "Brave" (BG1511D) WPL soft tires can be made to fit (minor wheel well trimming), pop in a much lower rpm FK180, cut 2 coils on all shock springs and position shocks for best travel (without over kinking rear dog bones), lock the diffs (if you want it to crawl+climb+bounce) little thing shames the WPL after these easy mods. really well made, full ball bearings etc.
Just found this video. I ordered a B-24 kit by mistake, so I have no radio etc. What is the lowest price but best bang for buck; Transmitter, Receiver, ESC combo? Or by the piece. I ordered a B-1 in the meantime for something to remote control as opposed to wiring up a couple D batteries so it'll at least go down the lane.
i really havent found a great deal on a complete radio / receiver set , i was contemplating buying a rtr rc car with all the digital proportional electronics that is cheap enough that i wont feel bad about swiping the guts for the wpl trucks , i think i found one , here is a link to it www.ebay.com/itm/REMO-1-16-RC-Truck-Car-50KM-h-2-4G-4WD-Waterproof-Brushed-Short-Course-SUV-1621/292057226329?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 the way i see it the other radio sets are around $71 and they dont have a battery or receiver , i can spend 59.98 on a whole truck , play with it for a minute then gut it for all the treasures inside ,
got me a blue Gaz 66 of these and done a short review of it aswell... ordered me some better electronics to convert it as the steering annoyed me too much, otherwise they seem pretty neat for the price
Awesome video. I got the red truck but in cream color its on its way now. Its only a shelf queen going to stay in its box. Was going to build a Diecast jeep project out of it from a 1/18 scale jeep but after your review ill stick with my scx10 and keep this on the shelf with my other Projects and shelf queens.
Where did you buy from? They are way cheaper on gearbest, but I have heard many many times that the site is sketchy as hell. Personally I prefer Ebay and Amazon where you have buyer protection.
i am working on another video right now , they sell all metal gears and bearing upgrades now , even metal suspension parts and gearboxes on aliexpress.com . you can build a pretty sweet little crawler out of these trucks now
I know , They didnt have any parts at the time i made the video , the metal parts dont hold up much better , i broke 2 metal gear sets in a week , Huge waste of $60
@@TheRandomMechanic yeah thats why i wait a long time before upgrading ang ordered my new c24. The new metal parts are awesome. It make the truck better ang smooth running. Hope to see it on your videos with those upgrade parts
@@howardalteisen2281 i have given up on wasting money on the wpl vehicles i hated the metal upgrades , none of them fit right and they never come with hardware , the gears dont mesh well so they will destroy them selves within hours of installation not to mention the pore fitment also causes pore steering and they are a lot slower when driving , i suppose if you had unlimited funds to throw at it to constantly keep it running if not i would not recommend them
@@howardalteisen2281 Which diff set ? the ones that i bought looked similar to this set and they were total trash www.aliexpress.com/item/DJI-Phantom-3-accessories-golden-Phantom-1-2-3-universal-housing-Sticker/32510261699.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.204.72741670s3YIW8&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1_10065_10068_10130_10890_10547_319_10546_317_10548_10545_10696_453_10084_454_10083_10618_431_10307_537_536_10059_10884_10887_100031_321_322_10103,searchweb201603_51,ppcSwitch_0&algo_expid=969ad403-d520-4eeb-9e9f-f902371e2287-28&algo_pvid=969ad403-d520-4eeb-9e9f-f902371e2287&transAbTest=ae803_3
hopefully i can start making the 6x6 videos soon , they sent me the wrong vehicle and it took several weeks to get them to do anything about it , so there has been a bit of a setback
i know , i have spent a fortune on metal upgraded for my c14 and it still breaks down all the time , i have gone through two metal gear sets in a week , finally got tired of spending money on them
i have had this happen a few times , i took mine apart and cleaned it out sometimes dirt can work its way into the steering box , i have also had bits of extra plastic from the manufacturing process rattling around inside making the gears hang up , it is a real simple gearbox so there isnt anything to worry about , also make sure that the return spring hasn't popped off the return arms
Dont you guys have to pay customs duty when importing from china. For me the truck esc and receiver and all costs above $150 including customs...and who wants to pay that much for this cheap RC.
mine does that occasionally usually i turn both the truck and remote off and move the trigger a few times to make sure it isnt hung up , that usually fixes mine , if it doesnt fix yours you can turn it on and if it goes in reverse , try the other functions on the remote and see if they work , steering and forward , if you are able to get it to stop by giving it a little throttle then the problem lies in the remote , if it wont respond to the controller then the receiver board may be faulty , i would contact the seller immediately
the gear on the input axle bridge cover is spinning on the shaft , you will need to take the 4 screws out , take the part off , pop the gear off the shaft carefully with a small flat blade screwdriver and put a drop of super glue in the gear then tap it back on the shaft with a small hammer , that will stop the slipping
The Random Mechanic thank you, that worked One question that doesn't really have anything to do with fixing but if I get taller 10cm shocks will they work
I didnt know that they offered a metal drive shaft , if you dont mind me asking where did you find it ? i would say it should hold up fine with the metal shafts , i am still running plastic shafts on my truck
I plan on ordering the lbp-16 my question is am I better off ordering the kit or the ready to run and if I order the kit where can I get the missing electronics?
i would say go with the kit version for a few reasons , #1 the kit comes with all soft tires , #2 comes with a 180 motor with a metal gear on it , #3 it comes with a hobby grade steering servo , and #4 you will have the added knowledge of how to take your truck apart for future repairs and upgrades since you put it together , you can get a full hobby grade kit on aliexpress.com www.aliexpress.com/item/WPL-B-1-1-16-Mini-Off-Road-RC-Military-Truck-4WD-RC-Crawler-Car-Conversion/32851176059.html
It seems kinda like dating a hot girl with depression, anxiety, and dementia. With enough work, you could have something special. Good info mang! I'm personally a glutton for punishment, so I'll probably get one 😁
That is a nice way to put it , i went on aliexpress and picked up a metal gear and bearing upgrade for 30 bucks & a set of metal drive shafts for $17 and now i don't have many problems with it , even now as a $77 truck it isnt a bad deal , i think they are worth the effort to make them into something cool , its a great budget build , one piece at a time
Do you know what happens to these ''sellers'' who do those things ? Taking the $$ and either NOT sending the item (Happened to me a few times,Ebay paid me back) or like in your case sending a useless piece of sh*t ... Do they get arrested since it's fraud ?? ... I tried finding the answers and i could never get any info from Paypal or Ebay ....
honestly i dont think anything happens to the seller i think their account just gets blocked and they just setup a new account and continue ripping people off
sounds to me like I made the right decision to NOT buy any of these vehicles, what a headache. I have to say that maybe you should buy something a little more closer to home like ECX or something or a more popular name like Tamiya. On the other hand, I have watched a lot of videos about these trucks and have seen what they can do and you are the only one I have heard say anything about anything breaking, one of the guys even loaded his down with rocks and it worked just fine.
yeah ive seen that video it can totally carry the rocks but it will but alot of strain on the cheap plastic driveshafts and gears , i ordered all metal shafts and gears for mine , we will see how they hold up once they come in
it is a rc johnny 5 kit that i customized to have fully articulated arms , more realistic eyes and movie accurate paint job , you can pick up the kits on wantedmall.com for 88 bucks , it doesn't come with a copy of the instructions you have to look them up online usually they will email you a copy
The c-24 had not yet become available for purchase when i made this video , also there were no parts available for the wpl c vehicles when i made this video , i have a video of the c-24 on my channel
unfortunately the c-24 is not yet available , i have been waiting for that one myself lol im going to buy at least 3 of them , i haven't been able to find out any info on when or even if they will actually release it
the next video will talk about the cheapest way to upgrade the electronics and which metal parts not to buy because they actually break just as often as the plastic parts
it certainly could be , if it is the motor do not turn the truck on because every time you try to make the truck go forward when the motor is shorted out you are causing burns on the circuit board , de-solder the motor and try another one if it still doesnt work then the same thing happened to yours that happened to mine , the motor wires built up too much resistance from the weak motor and burned the receiver board out ,
Hay nice video. Helps a lot. I haven't got one yet I've been reading up on the trucks. And I'm going to get the kit not the RTR. I have a good ECU that came from a hobby grade track car. The srveo from the kit well work just fine. And check these out m.tb.cn/h.ZaKnfyv?cv=ksP7GM2FTY&sm=fb3efc . There for one of the leaf spring trucks.
+The Random Mechanic. thanks. and yea way to $$$. but I've been wanting to know if they would fit on the c14 lol. oh they have metal drive shafts there to.
They are alot of fun for not alot of money , you definitely get what you pay for though its $30 for a reason , i actually have more fun figuring out how to improve its construction than i have driving it , in time i may end up building a completely new chassis for it , in my opinion the body was worth what i paid for the whole truck so i am not really worried about its junk drivetrain
The Random Mechanic no nothing came i was bummed. Ya think ya can win sometimes. Im about to start my build Any idea if the rc4wd 1 18 scale truck wheelbase close to this truck b14?
Ugh. Dude. Those are some el cheapo RC rigs. If I were you. I would just go ahead and with one sweeping motion, push them all off the counter. And into a trash can. And quit giving them your money!!!!. Im not saying spend $400+ on a Traxxas Trx4 Bronco like I did. But at least go out and get a Remo Hobby Trail Honcho knockoff. $165 and you get one hell of a cheap and capable RC crawler brother. Then go dig the bodies out of that trash can and mount them on the chassis or something. But, not for nothing. Those Wpl rigs are nothing more then Wal-Mart toy rejects. Because the returns department could never handle the already crowded lines, if they sold those.
i totally agree , i have given up on all of them , i mainly bought them to take the bodies off and either make my own chassis or just mount the body on an already existing frame , they were worth a shot , my opinion of them now is they are a good cheap rc to blow up with fireworks if you are making a small low budget war movie for film class
Lol i don't blame you the B-24 is not much fun to drive right out of the box , No problem glad i could help
They sell the forelink bars on Aliexpess remade in metal. Same with the driveshafts.
At the time i made the video they didn't offer any replacement parts , i changed my trucks over to metal gear and metal shafts months ago , still doesn't stop them from breaking down , i burned through 2 metal gear sets in a week with the stock battery and esc
That is discouraging to hear as I'm waiting on all my hop ups to arrive :/
Good info.
Hello. If you're still playing with them you can upgrade it from toy to hobby grade rc. Buy a tx/rx, esc, servo and a lipo battery and you're all set.
For the b24 or whatever, what you could do is reverse wire the motor so that reverse is forward. Granted the controls would be backwards and you wouldnt have reverse, you could still drive it if you really wanted to
True , the only issue is that the reverse circuit isnt as powerful so it would be alot slower and have absolutely no torque but technically it would drive in kind of a limp mode , i made sure to order the receiver boards in bulk , funny thing is i replaced the board and it burned out in less than 3 minutes and the next board after that didnt survive the next hour , so i settled on just upgrading the motor and wiring , it works fine now but i basically just use it as a beater truck and as a disposable platform to test fireworks , like in the video where i blew it up
$5 servo, $10 esc, cheap fully proportional RTR radio and receiver (i like Losi/spektrum), replace whatever breaks with metal, and you've got yourself a decent little truck.
thank you for posting videos. youre incredibly informative clear and concise
Great tips man, thanks for sharinng your experience, I already ordered 1 C24 directly from BangGood, hopefully all will be ok
Very helpful! Thanks! I ordered one C-14 and also the dark blue military truck and I was planning on just driving them for fun. Thanks for the heads up I will order parts now!
If you don't mind me asking what color c-14 did you get ? im glad this video was able to help you out ,
I ordered the red one, the blue one is for a gift for a friend.
Just added a full metal driveline kit to my cart. Thanks for the info!
No Problem , are you going to make a video of it ?
Probably. Eventually. I'm gonna get the kit that comes with tracks and the 2 speed transmission kit, along with the metal drivetrain. She'll be a beast on 2s!
Not Bad , will be a fun little rig
You can get aluminum diffs and the four link arms as well as shocks on geek.com
i know , i bought some an installed them in another video , trust me they are junk and not worth the extra money , the metal gears dont mesh right and you will burn them out in just a couple hours ,
@@TheRandomMechanic I was wondering that thanks for the info now I know not to waist my money I hsvent seen that video yet but didnt search to much yet either as i just found your channel
Got the info from youtube. very easy. Other than that .... uughh
Excellent overview and recommendations!
I'm glad I watched this video. I cancelled my order because of your video. If they don't sale replacement parts I don't want it. The only good thing about these trucks is the price. Thanks for the info bud.
No problem , i quit trying to fix these trucks myself , i realized that after all the headache of tracking down the metal upgrade parts and the new electronics you might as well have just paid for an axial in the first place , because even after all the upgrades it still kinda sucks ,
That is very , very misleading. they break easily and parts are very expensive
at the time i made the video stock parts were cheap and upgrade parts were not available yet
Wow really nice info thanks
Thank you, very helpful 🇺🇸😊👍
No Problem ! Thanks for the Info ,
Sure thing, did you ever wind up filing claims on those items? You should be covered.
i sure did , it took paypal 15 minutes to refund my money after filing the claim because they knew all about this scam lol , fastest return i have ever had and i got to keep the junkie keychains which i immediately set on fire after this video
Ha ha, perfect. Yeah it doesn't seem like the scam is going away any time soon, there always seems to be another pop up and skewer the pricing on these trucks, making it hard to tell who is honest on the middle ground.
true , honestly it is best to just stick to gearbest there really isnt anything to gain by ordering the trucks from ebay the price and shipping time frame is exactly the same , i noticed if you order two trucks they will ship the trucks alot faster , my last order only took a week and a half to arrive and that was two kit c-14's ,
this looks a lot like the RC4WD gelande 1/18th.... i wonder if the parts are interchangable?
thanks for this video, I Just ordered a C14 RTR model.
Also the one in the kit version is it a standard size servo?
there is enough room for a standard servo you will have to make your own linkage , i think the one that comes with the kit is a smaller servo but i will be able to confirm that when the 2 kits i ordered come in i will make a video of those as well
thanks! this was fun and informative :) i ve ordered the kit version of the c-14:)
cool what color did you get ?
the red one, but ill probably repaint it. is it possible to fit a standard 1/18 motor on it? and the servo that comes with the kit is a micro servo avaliable on ebay etc and most rc hobby stores. i want to make mine as durable i can so i can take it rock crawling. i was thinking of using electronics from the dromida touring car - waterproof 2 in 1 esc/reciever and brushed 370 motor , you think it will work?
i am not sure if the 380 is a good idea or not the 180 motor that i am running is already proving too much for the c14 i am replacing diff gears almost daily and breaking drive shafts left and right , need to find a replacement for the spider gears .
i got the truck today and the 380 wont fit for sure😊 but i got it running with the stock motor and dromida be18 esc reciever combo. the servo that came with the kit is a mini servo same size as in traxxas 1/16 cars.
Cool ! are you going to make a video about it ?
What an excellent video - thank you very much for posting it. I´m off to order lots of spare driveshafts...
Thanks , Im glad you like the video
The rear axle is cheaper than the input shaft if you need to buy those
I was really hoping these trucks were built a bit better, because the bodies look good and are detailed nicely. Although from the sounds of it, they can be made better with a little custom work.
they are alot of fun for very little money overall i think they are worth it , i was also hoping they were made better , it may sound weird but i kinda like that i have to make some parts and upgrade them a bit i like the challenge
To think about the price lol
they now sell metal upgrades for the shafts / axles
We're do I buy one
thegage1984, search "wpl" on google, it will send you to gearbest, banggood or ebay, pick what delivers to your country/ fastest/ cheapest
Idk anything about Rc but i have some knowledge about cars, that pinion angle on the driveshaft really needs to be fixed.
those guys on ebay "1shopday" are not there anymore is there another seller that is selling all the B1 parts
at those good prices all at one shop ?
cheers for the tips also
Brett
Thanks for info
Thanks for your video
No Problem
not sure if anybody told you but there a ton of parts available for these WPL on Bangood.com, Aliexpress and a few other sites. check them out asap
there were not any parts available at the time of the video , i am fully aware of the extensive list of parts , i have pretty much bought them all and i was dissatisfied with the quality of all of them , all of my trucks continued to break down on a daily basis even after full metal upgrades , i broke 2 metal gear kits in a week , i came to the conclusion that once i had $200 in a $30 rc truck and i still couldn't drive it for ten minutes without it breaking down then it just wasn't worth my time , finally just gave up on them and moved on to the next project ,
Can i use another transmitter for my WPL trucks without changing the receiving Board ?? I really don't like the transmitter the trucks came with ... I'd rather have a transmitter with speed on the left and steering on the right ... Those kind of transmitters !! I'm a bit new at this so i'm still learning and i learned a lot from your videos,Thanks !!
Unfortunately no , if you want to change the remote you have to replace all of the trucks components , receiving board and steering box
Oh that sucks ... Maybe when i get to know a bit more i'll change it but for now it's gonna stay like that ... Thanks for the info !!
this is why people are modding with a pair of 2-300 RPM N20 gear motors (not 5 bucks). less power+speed, but much steadier torque to get through stuff without snapping everything
thats why they make metal gear upgrades , for people that like speed over torque , id rather break everything all the time than have the truck go super slow ,
can relate to that too. glad there's videos about these, on building one of the first things I did was washers behind the input shaft bushings and lock them in place, more stable and better mesh on axle bevel gears. went for the 2 geared 12v 300 RPM N20's and yes disappointing on 2S, just TOO darn slow, think WPL should re-visit their transmission with another reduction gear in there, a "crawler transmission" with a top speed about 5 mph (not 8-9) for good trail walking. the shaft's and U-joints definitely need to be 20% beefier in plastic versions.
the N20's really didn't help for climbing torque on 2S, also disappointing is the second ya let off the throttle climbing, it rolls back downhill about same as stock trans (maybe a little slower). using a cheapo 20A brushed motor ESC and not willing to spend to go something 3S or 12v for these things. for what could be spent on a WPL now, you can about get a more capable crawler/bouncer for the same kind of money.
for a budget unit, get a look at a Subotech "Brave" (BG1511D)
WPL soft tires can be made to fit (minor wheel well trimming), pop in a much lower rpm FK180, cut 2 coils on all shock springs and position shocks for best travel (without over kinking rear dog bones), lock the diffs (if you want it to crawl+climb+bounce) little thing shames the WPL after these easy mods. really well made, full ball bearings etc.
I just bought one . I spent an hour just chasing my cats no problems at all yet
Cool , Which one did you get ?
The Random Mechanic I got the B-1 in gray. Im gonna teach myself how to upgrade things with it
Everything on my b24 has been perfect except for each leaf springs broke.
as did mine , i love the B-24 , it holds up very well to explosives , my kind of truck
I didn’t see the body listed damn I like that
Just found this video. I ordered a B-24 kit by mistake, so I have no radio etc. What is the lowest price but best bang for buck; Transmitter, Receiver, ESC combo? Or by the piece. I ordered a B-1 in the meantime for something to remote control as opposed to wiring up a couple D batteries so it'll at least go down the lane.
i really havent found a great deal on a complete radio / receiver set , i was contemplating buying a rtr rc car with all the digital proportional electronics that is cheap enough that i wont feel bad about swiping the guts for the wpl trucks , i think i found one , here is a link to it
www.ebay.com/itm/REMO-1-16-RC-Truck-Car-50KM-h-2-4G-4WD-Waterproof-Brushed-Short-Course-SUV-1621/292057226329?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
the way i see it the other radio sets are around $71 and they dont have a battery or receiver , i can spend 59.98 on a whole truck , play with it for a minute then gut it for all the treasures inside ,
got me a blue Gaz 66 of these and done a short review of it aswell... ordered me some better electronics to convert it as the steering annoyed me too much, otherwise they seem pretty neat for the price
Good overview.
Awesome video. I got the red truck but in cream color its on its way now. Its only a shelf queen going to stay in its box. Was going to build a Diecast jeep project out of it from a 1/18 scale jeep but after your review ill stick with my scx10 and keep this on the shelf with my other Projects and shelf queens.
they have metal gear and diffs now
Yeah i saw those , i will probably order a set and put them through their paces .
Where did you buy from? They are way cheaper on gearbest, but I have heard many many times that the site is sketchy as hell. Personally I prefer Ebay and Amazon where you have buyer protection.
He said eBay
I would use metal hanger for the links
Good info Thanks ! :)
ur a very big help thank you
No Problem
Wow thank you
I've ordered two motors gearbox, and four axles fronte and rear, hope i dont receive une craps like yours ....
i am working on another video right now , they sell all metal gears and bearing upgrades now , even metal suspension parts and gearboxes on aliexpress.com . you can build a pretty sweet little crawler out of these trucks now
Theres a metal parts available for c14 and 24. I got mine now from Lazada..

Wow nice video, please suggest a better motor for WPL B1 6x6
i will have a video on the 6x6 soon , should come in the mail this week , got the c-24 as well
The Random Mechanic, well I just subbed, waiting for the 6x6 vids
also, I just ordered a rtr and a kit version, will try to build a 8x8 or 10x10 out of them :D
thisColdDecember
Cool
hopefully i can start making the 6x6 videos soon , they sent me the wrong vehicle and it took several weeks to get them to do anything about it , so there has been a bit of a setback
These trucks are all upgradable with metal wpl parts. Even gearbox.
i know , i have spent a fortune on metal upgraded for my c14 and it still breaks down all the time , i have gone through two metal gear sets in a week , finally got tired of spending money on them
at the time i made the video they didn't offer any replacement parts ,
The steering box on my c14 is broken. It sticks to the left a lot and barely turns at all. Ideas?
i have had this happen a few times , i took mine apart and cleaned it out sometimes dirt can work its way into the steering box , i have also had bits of extra plastic from the manufacturing process rattling around inside making the gears hang up , it is a real simple gearbox so there isnt anything to worry about , also make sure that the return spring hasn't popped off the return arms
The Random Mechanic thanks, I have the RTR version and took it for a spin for the first time and this happened.
Hey mate is the wpl b24 worth getting ??
great video,i now look forward to getting these little rigs!liked and subed!😃👍
We're would u recommend ordering WPL RC TOYS.
WISH OR ALI EXPRESS OR AMAZON
i would say amazon or banggood , i haven't checked out wish , for parts i usually go with ebay or aliexpress
@@TheRandomMechanic hay thanks if I got technical questions ill ask thank u for answering my questions keep up the great videos
Now l know they l have to change the engine thanks
Slow down when you move the trucks....
Nice video
All parts are available on wish.com
Yep and metal upgrades as well.
Dont you guys have to pay customs duty when importing from china. For me the truck esc and receiver and all costs above $150 including customs...and who wants to pay that much for this cheap RC.
i have never had to pay customs fees on any of my purchases , that is way too much to pay for one of these trucks , where do you live ?
Just got my c14, turned it on and it keeps going in reverse on its own. Know how I can fix this?
mine does that occasionally usually i turn both the truck and remote off and move the trigger a few times to make sure it isnt hung up , that usually fixes mine , if it doesnt fix yours you can turn it on and if it goes in reverse , try the other functions on the remote and see if they work , steering and forward , if you are able to get it to stop by giving it a little throttle then the problem lies in the remote , if it wont respond to the controller then the receiver board may be faulty , i would contact the seller immediately
My front wheels don't spin on my c14 when I have the slightest climb
Do you know how to fix it?
the gear on the input axle bridge cover is spinning on the shaft , you will need to take the 4 screws out , take the part off , pop the gear off the shaft carefully with a small flat blade screwdriver and put a drop of super glue in the gear then tap it back on the shaft with a small hammer , that will stop the slipping
The Random Mechanic thank you, that worked
One question that doesn't really have anything to do with fixing but if I get taller 10cm shocks will they work
it would if you get longer driveshafts and 4 link rods
The Random Mechanic which Ross would you suggest
Edit:note I have a somewhat low budget
I guess i'll buy a 3d printer!
Fucking deadly vid bro well done great advice thanks so much 👍👍
What about the wpl c24?
at the time i made this video the c-24 hadn't come out yet , i do have another video on the c-24
good video
I ordered one Wpl B1 with metal driveshafts. Do you think it will hold up to a 180 motor?
I didnt know that they offered a metal drive shaft , if you dont mind me asking where did you find it ? i would say it should hold up fine with the metal shafts , i am still running plastic shafts on my truck
Just go on ebay or google and put Wpl B-1 upgrades they even have metal axles. Metal driveshaft was 12$
Or WPL b-1 Upgraded metal driveshaft on ebay or google found upgraded axles on google
That's Awesome ! i knew about the aluminum axles but i didnt know about the drive shafts , Sweet i am going to order a few sets , Thanks for the info
The Random Mechanic yeah man but Its for a heng long model, but its the same exact thing as the wpl
I plan on ordering the lbp-16 my question is am I better off ordering the kit or the ready to run and if I order the kit where can I get the missing electronics?
i would say go with the kit version for a few reasons , #1 the kit comes with all soft tires , #2 comes with a 180 motor with a metal gear on it , #3 it comes with a hobby grade steering servo , and #4 you will have the added knowledge of how to take your truck apart for future repairs and upgrades since you put it together ,
you can get a full hobby grade kit on aliexpress.com
www.aliexpress.com/item/WPL-B-1-1-16-Mini-Off-Road-RC-Military-Truck-4WD-RC-Crawler-Car-Conversion/32851176059.html
that website also has a bunch of metal upgrade parts , 2 speed transmissions , metal wheels ,drive shafts , metal gear upgrades and much much more ,
Where should I order the kit from?
i would go with gearbest.com they usually have the best prices , here is a link
www.gearbest.com/rc-cars/pp_1845629.html?wid=1433363#goodsDetail
The Random Mechanic do u have a Facebook or something I could pm you on ?
nice
Did you do any upgrades
i have actually done alot of upgrades on my c-14 , now that they sell parts for it
Can you Show the top speed of all of your rc cars
Yes i can make a video showing the top speed of the cars before and after modding ,
The Random Mechanic I'm 13
The Random Mechanic and I was wondering if you could maybe get me one of those
The Random Mechanic or one that you don't use
The Random Mechanic I like to tinker with stuff one time it took a dryer that didn't work at all from a junkyard and fixed it and then it worked
Do they get arrested since it's fraud ?? ... I tried finding the answers and i could never get any info from Paypal or Ebay ....
honestly i dont think anything happens to the seller i think their account just gets blocked and they just setup a new account and continue ripping people off
I just received my WLP Trucks (I bought them all) and like you said in the video i bought some parts and i understand why i will need them !! Thanks !
It's bank fraud ... the Chinese cops should do something !!
sounds to me like I made the right decision to NOT buy any of these vehicles, what a headache. I have to say that maybe you should buy something a little more closer to home like ECX or something or a more popular name like Tamiya. On the other hand, I have watched a lot of videos about these trucks and have seen what they can do and you are the only one I have heard say anything about anything breaking, one of the guys even loaded his down with rocks and it worked just fine.
yeah ive seen that video it can totally carry the rocks but it will but alot of strain on the cheap plastic driveshafts and gears , i ordered all metal shafts and gears for mine , we will see how they hold up once they come in
Is that a nr "Johny" 5 in the back?
it is a rc johnny 5 kit that i customized to have fully articulated arms , more realistic eyes and movie accurate paint job , you can pick up the kits on wantedmall.com for 88 bucks , it doesn't come with a copy of the instructions you have to look them up online usually they will email you a copy
cool man! you have a video on it? could not find one at least.
i did but i took it down
What about wpl 24
b-24 or c-24 ?
The c-24 had not yet become available for purchase when i made this video , also there were no parts available for the wpl c vehicles when i made this video ,
i have a video of the c-24 on my channel
Can u get the wpl c24 yet? I see the pics of it on the box of the wpl c14
unfortunately the c-24 is not yet available , i have been waiting for that one myself lol im going to buy at least 3 of them , i haven't been able to find out any info on when or even if they will actually release it
is that the pickup truck with the full cab? i've seen pictures of that
yes the c-24 is the full body with a bed , not sure when its coming out but i am looking forward to it , looks a lot better
David Gamero yea
yeh that body's gonna be really cool, maybe even to put on other trail trucks, if that's possible with wpl stuff
The parts your telling people that cant buy you can buy I have for mine the links you can get in metal
i know , i made this video when the trucks first came out and parts were not available , i am working on a new one ,
the next video will talk about the cheapest way to upgrade the electronics and which metal parts not to buy because they actually break just as often as the plastic parts
Banggood has to hole line at better prices then epay or imazon .
aliexpress has some really badass parts as well
I will check them out thanks!
Wish has alot of nice parts for them for cheap
i usually get my part off aliexpress or ebay , i will check out wish as well , Thanks
My B-24 just stopped going forward & reverse. Steering still works. Any ideas? I do have a recieving board coming, but could it be the motor?
it certainly could be , if it is the motor do not turn the truck on because every time you try to make the truck go forward when the motor is shorted out you are causing burns on the circuit board , de-solder the motor and try another one if it still doesnt work then the same thing happened to yours that happened to mine , the motor wires built up too much resistance from the weak motor and burned the receiver board out ,
also check to see if the solder joint for the motor plug didn't come apart
Thank you for the information, really a waste money on these. For a small child and will tear up easily.
DUDE THOSE ARE SICK ! Expensive too lol cool find
+The Random Mechanic. thanks. and yea way to $$$. but I've been wanting to know if they would fit on the c14 lol. oh they have metal drive shafts there to.
they should fit the c14 , all of the wpl trucks use the same drivetrain
15.06
Why would you buy these rcs? Quality doesn't seem to be there 😐
They are alot of fun for not alot of money , you definitely get what you pay for though its $30 for a reason , i actually have more fun figuring out how to improve its construction than i have driving it , in time i may end up building a completely new chassis for it , in my opinion the body was worth what i paid for the whole truck so i am not really worried about its junk drivetrain
I agree. I bought it for the body, as well. I can rebuild anything else.
I bought 5 of those 8$ trucks
Did you get anything in the mail ?
I was just thinking that too. I took a gamble on one of these on eBay for 12 bucks today. Lets see.
The Random Mechanic no nothing came i was bummed. Ya think ya can win sometimes. Im about to start my build Any idea if the rc4wd 1 18 scale truck wheelbase close to this truck b14?
lol
need more torque
Little blue battery 7.4 just run it in the rig you'll be surprised
why the hell did u buy it, its crap..
mainly because i wanted the body to use on something else ,
Ugh.
I have blown up my b24 twice just for the hell of it ,
you can bi it all naw
I know , it says in the description that i know they sell parts now , plus i have videos of some of the upgrades now
