Used to play that game myself on the Amiga back in the day. I know more about Caribbean geography than I know about American geography because of it. I'm surprised you guys did play the PSP version (it runs on basically anything). But man that is a great game.
Ah… I was asking for a game to scratch the itch left by Escape Velocity, and someone recommended this game. But the story (particularly the writing along the way) was one of my favorite parts about the EV series! So, I guess the recommendation works in reverse: If you liked this game, but you would like to try something based on Sci-Fi, with a novel-like story that you can ignore or choose from several different paths with unique narratives, real-time “sailing” and fighting in a spaceship with loads of add-ons and upgrades, then try out the formerly Mac-Exclusive (from around the time Bungie was Mac-Exclusive, Cyan Worlds and Lucasarts were releasing hit after hit games) Escape Velocity trilogy! The third one might be the easiest to get working today, but unfortunately indie dev and publisher AmbrosiaSW is out of business and the game is abandonware. Escape Velocity: Nova takes what was good from the earlier games, has the best animated sprite art, largest universe, most factions that each provide their own story thread, most side quests, and probably the most to do. Until online multiplayer shooters on Xbox 360 came out, EV: Nova was my most played game.
If you got Nova working you can download total conversion ports of the other two EVs. I've got six scenarios installed right now; EV, Override, Nova, and three total conversions of Nova, Acheron, Polycon, and White Dwarf. My EV itch is _scratched._
Good review! I grew up with a Genesis, but never played this one. Glad to hear it is worth a look! There are still so many retro games that are quite unique and some that were well ahead of their time! I look forward to learning about more lesser-known retro games with the Dusty Game Society!
I love starflight on Sega genesis as example of early "open world" game. I have gone back and replayed this game several times since 1993. I had never heard of pirates gold. I'm going to try it.
The Sega Genesis version is still my favorite way to play this game, and I also think the best way. I played the HELL out of this game on Sega Channel over a summer when I was a kid.
I played the original Sid Meier's Pirates! somewhere around 1987 on my C64 and a couple of years later I played the same game on my Amiga again. Absolutely loved it! When I bought a Mega Drive, I played the game again. I think the Mega Drive version is the best, although I have a soft spot for the C64 one. In 2004 I played the PC remake and loved it! ...Again! This is a game I have bought and played many times. Like I have done with Skyrim and Minecraft. In other words... It's a classic!
I absolutely loved the Amiga version for the fantastic sound. Now i have to try the Genesis version... They never have managed to capture the feeling and freedom of that game series again. The closest thing in a scifi setting i found so far is starsector, but that one is with spaceships.
Nintendo: Heres the Switch 2
Dweeb: here's a 30 year old Sega Genesis game
Heck yes!🎉
Gather up all of the Crew, It's time to ship out Bink's Brew....
I´m so old that i played Pirates on a Commodore 64 in the 80´s. Loved it and it came with a paper map of the carribians.
I first played Pirates on the c64 back in the 80s and yes I am old too 🤣🥃
Me too!! Pirates C64 was one of my first ever games-alongside C64 Roger Rabbit and Ghostbusters. Definitely holds up the best of those three 😂
+1 It had a lot of depth for that time
Sign me up 🎉 too
As a pirate I approve this
☠
This T.Dweeb video hooked me right from the beginning.
I LOVED the Apple II version of Pirates! back in the day. Come to think of it, I pretty much love every version of Pirates! i've ever played!
The best thing since Pirate Steve in Dodgeball. Garr.

I loved the remake on PC. Only discovered years alter it was also ported to OG Xbox, which is actually a super comfy way to play it with a controller.
Taipan! is another classic that you can play on mobile phone.
This was one of my favorite games on the Sega waaaaaaaaaay back in the day.
Getting my DDD - Daily Dose of Dweeb!
Great timing. Was just playing the psp version this week. Rented the Genesis cartridge a lot back in the day.

I intend to join the DGS as soon as I kill off my student loan. It looks like so much fun!
My buddy had this in Nintendo and wouldn't let anyone else play, just got to watch him...
Ubisoft catching strays again (ToT)
That is certainly one of the best looking retro games.
