I bought this pistol in 2017 and it's been flawless. It's a heavy pistol so i wouldn't recommend it for conceal carry but some people may think differently.
I carry this firearm every day .
It can double as a melee weapon 😂
Ive concealed carried this gun a few times b4 i sold mine beautiful gun that packed a punch! but the weight is noticeable.. lol
Well this is awesome. This will wrap up my 10mm handgun collection. Just put this on layaway for $149, in store price came in at $741
Its a great pistol just has a few small quirks easily fixed
Whoa this dude is spot on. Got mine an few weeks ago. Metal is the way to go. Bro i got mags a few ago with no wait time. You right about remilling the front and rear sights. I having an caspion rail install on mine.
Thanks bro. Never heard of Caspion rail, gotta take a look.
I’ve had their tactical FS double stack in 45APC, and it’s been amazing for the last 10 years. Only had one issue with a modification I was doing, and I was able to actually talk to one of the RIA gunsmiths on the phone and via email. I would 100% recommend this pistol, and their customer service for me was excellent.
Very good quality pistols. Wow 10 years. Glad to hear that.
Mann I appreciate your true honesty , i ordered one of these about 6 months ago still waiting but from your review and a big Relief !! another thing appreciate courage , you have shown by comparing it to Glock i love Glock , But Ive never had 1911 or 2011 and I wanted this one to be my first , cause some times i don`t think gun gets enough love !!!
Yea everyone loves the Glock I had to offer a real review that is not BS, many people think Glocks are the James Bond Golden Gun.
its 22lbs in my 52000 ..so hard to put together! i love mine...super super tight
this is 1 of the best reviews I've ever seen - thank you
thank you!
I’m a retired nurse. My sons/grandsons love guns and have their own. I’m not one bit knowledgeable about firearms but that is a beautiful gun! If it came in fushia pink, I might try to buy one!😂
hahahaha!!! thanks for watching
You can have just about any weapon Cerakoted these days to just about any design or color you can imagine. This particular pistol is very large and so is the grip, that's why I like double stack style 1911's since I have huge hands. If I were to guess I would say that you would probably prefer a single stack 1911 and GSG actually makes a pink 22lr version if you want to get an idea of what a pink 1911 looks like.
Question if I wanted to swap out the threaded barrel for a more standard barrel is that possible with this fire arm ?
@Eric Thomas I don't know if anyone answered your question, but it is. Rock island makes a single stock 10mm and I can tell you that the slide and everything on the top is in fact interchangeable.
Cerracote after you try nail polish to get your color just right@@BigBadJohn
I don't see why anyone would choose a Glock 20 over the RIA 2011 after seeing this review. Thank you for the in-depth dive!
My pleasure...well the glock is $400 cheaper and a better "beater" gun
Glock 20 > RIA
More rounds, Gen Optic Ready, Easier to find parts,
I was going to get the RIA but I couldn’t find mags
I miked out my magazine feed lips and they were .352 back, 360 front. I opened up the front to .380 for better reliability. 😊
Yea thats what I have done too. Much better now.
Rock Island has been manufacturing arms in the states for the last few years, most recently a Utah plant coming up.
I get it, you don't like Glocks but the whole Glock is only for police is Fudd lore. Glock was designed for the Austrian army trials so it is a weapon of war. The British army use the Glock 17 along with numerous other armies. Navy Seals, DevGru, CAG and Marine Raiders and Force Recon use Glocks. That Rock hasn't been issued by anybody. This coming from a 1911 fan.
@Ideo7Z what are you talking about? I absolutely hate glocks but i know a majority of special forces trust them, I think theyre ugly as hell and considering glock lovers will tell you they are great then replace (trigger, grip texture, magazines, slide, barrel, slide end plate, recoil spring to a metal one,) and they still hate the grip angle. so please tell me again why i would buy a glock when your most avid glock fan would replace 98% of the gun while still saying "its perfect"
Nice deep dive review. I’ve owned mine for about 7 months. Maybe about 500 rounds through mine. It’s broken in nicely. Solid piece, my 1st an only 1911 (All Metal). I’d say the first 200 rounds I had a few feedramp issues with one particular ammo I can’t recall. I think I was running it too dry and got some friction when it heated up. Definitely doesn’t like Hornady defensive rounds. Otherwise it runs great, I run it pretty slick while I’m still in the break in period. I notice yours was kinda dry, so you oil it much? Again great review. Solid piece for the price. 👍🏾👌🏾
Thank you bro I appreciate it. I put oil on it yea, but nothing excessive. Oil attracts carbon and fouling too. I put a little bit on the barrel lugs and the slide rail. It has a 20 pound spring so it's got a stiff spring, a factory Glock 10mm has a 17 pound spring. If you use low power loads it would lock the slide back. I had issues with the PMC 10mm ammo.
If you're ever looking for an awesome 1911 under $1000, check out BUL Armory's... it's the nicest 1911 I've ever shot. Most buttery-smooth slide you'll ever see for that pricepoint.
@@twistofcain_666I don't think Bul Armory makes a 10mm. They also don't sell 1911 style pistols with longer barrels.
40 minutes of your review went by fast. Best review I’ve seen in a long time. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us on this beast of a gun, well done! You have my sub.
Thanks so much, glad you appreciated the length of it. Some people hate long videos.
I needed this video. Trying to decide what I need. Thank you. Great video.
I have a glock 10mm vs 1911 10mm coming out soon
Going to 'frankenstein' a double-stack 45 frame, a 6" 4150CM bull barrel, a slide from a single-stack, and start pushing reloads into magnum and super-magnum territory.
I have an S&W M&P 2.0 10mm with a 4.625 inch long barrel. No safety lever on mine. Barrel and slide are quad ported by Mag-Na-Port. Carver Custom Tungsten Heavy guide rod and an Apex aluminum black safety flat trigger kit. X/S optic height night sight tritium and a Holosun 508T solar panel backup mounted with a C&H Precision aluminum mounting plate put on with stainless steel screws and blue loctite. Streamlight flashlight and green laser combo attached to the TAC rail. Floyd’s Custom aluminum base plate to add one round without changing the magazine spring. Put on my five magazine clips. Raises the count to 16 rounds per magazine.
Very nice
Very good video sir.
Have you found any other magazines yet?
No not yet
So, I took mine to the range for the first time today. It jams almost every time. Out of 3 factory mags, I think I managed to get 8 rounds to cycle properly. I also tried different types of ammo. It had the same problem with all ammo. I really hope RIA stands by their warranty. I'm pretty sure it's a feed ramp and/or mag issue. On a positive note, when it actually managed to cycle, it's dead accurate from the factory, and the recoil feels like I'm shooting a 22.
Could be the mags. You could try to open up the feed lips a little to see if that will help angle the cartridge higher
@@NYPrepper thanks. I'm not sure if I would trust myself to do that properly. This seems to be a known issue with this gun. Some people get ones that are flawless, and some people have this problem. I'm going to contact RIA next week, and see if they can fix it. I know there's a company out there that modifies RIA 1911's, so that they function flawlessly. I think I'll give RIA a chance to fix it first. I have a Gen 4 Glock 40, which functions flawlessly. I'm not a fan of the trigger or the accuracy, but at least I have another nightstand pistol while my RIA gets fixed (hopefully).
Polish the feed ramp. Rock Island says you can use their .40 S&W mags with a slight modification. Haven't tried those yet.@@DDDYLN
@@edwinlee6864 mine shipped with 40S&W mags.
My first 1911, 10mm and threaded barrel.
I agree with you, as I love my Sig 365 and Glock 19 and carry one every day, I am looking to replace them to something that is hammer fired and all metal. Tired of the plastic guns, and striker fired ones. Would love to save for the Wilson 9mm , all metal including the grips.
I am uploading a video Glock 10mm vs 1911 10mm. I love my Glock, but some guys this plastic frame guns are end all be all.
Sounds like you might like the CZ 75 SP-01 9mm
You do a great job on your videos. Can you do a complete breakdown and cleaning on this RIA w/ picatiny rail and threaded barrel please? I have the same gun and want to see the easiest way. Thanks
Its easy. Just need a safety pin to take down. Theres a small hole in the guide rod you have to put a pin in it to hold the spring back. Its a full length guide rod.
How are you going to say that 1911s are more reliable than Glocks, but then have yourself and a comment section full of people talking about this weapon malfunctioning constantly? Lol
Great Vid bro can you do some bear load videos? I have the grizzly 220grn and haven't shot them yet. Wondering how they will function through this pistol
What holster would you recommend for this handgun?
I use a wilde custom gear universal holster for it so I can run the light and supressor sights.
I’m debating on getting the single stack variant of this gun. I want a 1911 and something in 10mm, so I was on a toss up for this, the Springfield ronin, and magnum researches offering. If you had to chose between this and those two, would you still go with this?
I am not sure I never tried the other ones, but I can recommend the Girsan 1911 10mm's if you want a single stack. I wanted a double stack, but I will say if you have average or small hands the grip will be quite thick for you. I have had to make some minor fixes to this firearm, nothing a local gunsmith or RIA customer service can't handle.
I own this gun. What I don’t like is it is single action and there is no de-cocking mechanism. So that makes it very difficult to carry this gun safely. I like to carry with one in the chamber. All my other guns are double action, so I can carry the gun safely UNCOCKED, but draw the gun safely get off a first shot fairly easily. How do you carry this gun safely with one round in the chamber? My hands are pretty big and I cannot pull the hammer back with my right thumb. I have to use both hands. So this gun doesn’t cut it for me. I’m going back to my Glock 40 MOS.
I think maybe the @NYPrepper forgot to include the link to the mags for aftermarket extra mags....
They're Philipino, but they use recycled American Railroad steel
Excellent analysis
I have both RIA 5" and 6" 10mm pistols, but both of which are single stack. The feeding issue you had probably was more related to the aftermarket magazine. But that's my guess. The recoil spring has a 20lb weight in all RIA 10mm pistols. That's what I was told by RIA customer service a while back.
No it's not the magazine happens with weak rounds not powerful enough to push the slide back forcefully
Great vid. Will a US made supressor screw on without issue?
Of course my silencerco hybrid 46 does just need the right piston for your can. Threads are .578 x28
Mark at Browne Works makes grips for this. I had a pair of African rosewood grips for my Rock Ultra.
Thanks for the information! Been looking for some.
I happened to see in your case a magazine for a P-14 Para (.45ACP). So, you have used that magazine in this firearm and found it to be reliable? That would be ideal for me, if so.
Yes it needs slight modification. Find them here Www.roninsgrips.com
I forgot about the limitations of field stripping with a full length guide rod. I never owned a pistol with one, so it didn't jump out at me when I was looking at this gun.
Something for me to factor in for sure.
you can field strip it just need a paper clip or something similar
@@NYPrepper I just watched a quick video on it. Im no longer concerned. Haha. Thanks!
Excellent review, but I wonder if I could buy a threaded barrel coz as I know it’s prohibited, I don’t know but anyway Thanks Bro for this review 👍
Are mags still hard to find or do they seem to be more available yet? Where do u recommend getting more mags
Www.roninsgrips.com
Something interesting is that I bought mine about 2 years ago. I'm not sure when you bought yours, but your magazine appears to be different than the mag that came with mine.
I use aftermarket mags cause I can't find the factory ones
Thanks for insulting the Glock community 😂
Pmc bronze was jamming in the 20 as well
Buen día donde puedo comprar una igual …. Plis
Thanks for the review. I have yet to shoot mine. I'm hoping I won't have any feed ramp issues. And if I do, I'm hoping RIA will fix it for me. It's interesting what you said about the Novak sights. I was under the impression that the rear sight was a Novak sight.
No it's not it's proprietary dovetail. You shouldn't have any feed ramp issues, I didn't.
@@NYPrepper I appreciate the info. I was confused at first, because your magazine in the case was different from the one that shipped with mine. After rewatching the video, I saw the part where you talked about the mag shortage, and then you pulled out the factory magazine that I received. Since I bought mine 2 years ago, I was fortunate to purchase 2 extra factory mags. BTW, I love your down to earth Olight Baldr Pro. I have the new rechargeable Olight Baldr Pro R light on mine, and on my Glock 40 MOS Gen 4, because they're nightstand pistols. Rechargeable batteries make sense for that purpose. On my AR-15's, I have the Baldr Pro lights with the green laser. I figure if I ever need to go back country camping in bear country, I can just take the Baldr Pro off my cheaper AR, and put it on one of my 10mm pistols. In addition, I like your sight setup for shooting with a suppressor. I don't shoot suppressed yet, but you've given me some good ideas if I ever try it.
I have the 6 inch and im so happy!
@@StevenCharles-jp4du I've got the Pro Match Ultra as well. Yes, I know I don't need both. It's a long story!
@@StevenCharles-jp4du do you have both the Threaded Tac Ultra FS HC and the Pro Match Ultra HC?
Very informative thank you
I have the 9mm pro and love it
Good video
Thanks I plan to film an updated one soon
Why does the outer part of the magazine say 40 Smith & Wesson? Can you shoot 40 Smith & Wesson out of it?
Yes either
I own one and I love it! But the G10 grips are smooth AF! Not true G10! You literally have to stipple them to your own liking. If you own a Dremel and know how to use it, go ahead. Just not so awesome that the only grips you can get for this gun is EXTREMELY LIMITED due to the proprietary "wing" on the G10 grip. Total monopoly! Maybe 3 sites to procure solid grips! Magazines however, Totally available, all day on too many sites!
I agree 100% I never found the grips to be much of an issue though I don't do any super intense tactical shooting. I can see how many if wet they could be slick.
What model# Kensight is the rear ? thx!
The fully adjustable one with tritium
where did you get the threaded barrel from?
Came standard.
Any suggestions for an OWB holster for this gun? I am left handed.
Lots of.good.companies
I’ve been looking for some time to get this model except in 45 acp. But I didn’t know about the metric compatibility issues. And of course I’ll need lots of double stack 45 mags
Yea it's not a big deal really.
@@NYPrepper yeah I mean I want a 1911 platform in the traditional 45 acp but I don’t want to limit myself to 7-8 rounds in 2022. Not many options for double stacked 1911 unless you want a custom built one with a $5000+ price tag
Glocks are used in Combat by US Military guy…..
Laughing so hard 🤣 very entertaining vid
does anyone recommend any holster for this exact gun and where to get extra mags?
Tandy Leather diy.
What's a 500 Smith and Wesson... I think it's a Caddilac :)~
It is my pride and joy :)
@@NYPrepper Yaaaaaaayyy >*********
I agree
👍😎👍
4 min in and still talking..
I've got the longslide version and love it!
Interesting didn't know they had a long slide version
Unpopular opinion: Metric is juat better... just sayin'.
