- This great American standard, "Day By Day," written by Sammy Cahn, Axel Stordahl, and Paul Weston was recorded by Frank Sinatra on Columbia Records on August 22, 1945. It has been covered by many jazz artists and is usually presented as a ballad. This arrangement has a light Bossa Nova flavor and will be enjoyed by all of your audiences. A suggested jazz solo is written out in the Violin 1 part and chords are presented in all parts to afford additional opportunities for students to improvise. All parts remain in first position with the exception of Violin 1 that has some optional octave passages. There is a mixture of pizzicato and arco to enhance the flavor, and a Violin 3 part is included to bolster the Viola section. The guitar part is optional but when added will create the true Bossa flavor.
