- Bosch Dishwasher how to use and a review of the Bosch Dishwasher 300 Series, including how to adjust the height of rack height and how to open the Bosch Dishwasher Filter to clean. The Bosch Dishwasher 300 Series gives a quiet sound of 44dBA and comes with lots of loading capacity.
The model featured is SHS863WD5N and includes the Rackmatic feature on the upper rack and a hidden third rack for all your utensils and cutlery. Both these features provide up to 30% loading capacity and 44 dBA it's so quiet you won't know it's on. Thankfully there is a flashing red light to warn you so you don't open it during the wash cycle.
It comes with 5 preset wash cycles with the shortest cycle being 1 hour. The machine uses condensation drying which is great because it means there is no heating element installed at the bottom so it's safe to put plastics on the lower rack without the risk of them melting from the heat and since there is no fan installed there is no external air coming into the machine so it's a much more hygienic way to dry the dishes.
We have the machine for about one year and so far we have not experienced any issues with it. Cleaning out the filter will also prolong the use of the machine so be sure to do that regularly!

We got a new Bosch dishwasher with the third rack which is different than our old Bosch dishwasher. I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do with the third rack until I watched your video. I was also really frustrated that I couldn't fit tall glasses into the second rack, read through the manual and papers that came with it, saw nothing about adjusting that second rack. Thought I would have to remove the third rack until I saw your video on how to lower the second rack. It worked!! Thank you so much!!

I’ve had my Bosch for almost a year and I’ve hated it. More than a dozen broken wine glasses! My stemware supports do not “click” into place as you demonstrated. Oh! I can’t forget that I now know how to lower that rack which gives me more height for those wine glasses! I’m indebted to you!

We bought the Bosch dishwasher for the upper 3rd rack, after seeing Mark Zuckerberg (FB owner) interviewed somewhere and he used this dishwasher with extra rack. I told my hubby I had to have this model, and tada...it was done. Thank you so much for making such easy to understand video of the Bosch! What a lifesaver instead of reading the complicated manual.

@@MeemReviews Did you have a bad rubber like smell when first using yours?? We've used our twice now and it smells like tar asphalt?! We read it's called Bitumen and is for insulation to make the machine quiet. Smells awful after we run a load and smells inside our plasticware also?! VERY CONCERNING!

Best explanation on 1/2 load. Didn’t know that you need one of the control buttons on left to work with 1/2 load button. Dah!. FYI no red light on floor if the controls on the panel is on the outside.
Have 300 series and it’s so quiet that I actual had to get up & go into kitchen to see if it was on.

Great info. Nice presentation style. Just got an 800 model, and the instructions go on and on. Our previous Whirlpool lasted 20 years. Those instructions were pretty simple. LOL. (Among other slightly obscure considerations, this machine wants to know the water PH, and has settings and a salt dispenser if the water is too hard. YIPES)

@4:25 You have those 2 bowls facing the wrong way...
All bowls should be facing towards the center/arm blade of the dishwasher, you have them facing away ... this is also stated in the manual.. Otherwise, water has a hard time reaching up into the deep part of the bowl if it is facing away... The manual also states the same thing for facing pots n pans towards the center of the arm blade but they are so big they usually face downwards anyways instead of on their side.

Do the tines stay up well? I have an LG and the tines continually fall forcing all the plates to fall ontop of each other.
Does anyone know what size diameter plate will fit on the bottom rack if the top rack is all the way up?

Hi. I use quick wash cycle (of 29 minutes) everyday. In my machine after 15 minutes the timer goes back to 19 instead of 14 minutes and then at the end of cycle after 0:03 minutes it directly becomes 0:00 skipping 0:02 and 0:01 minute. Is this normal?

Just one question when you choose say 1 hour wash or normal on the other side there is something that says half load do I press that too. It is only me so I will never fill this thing lol. So press 1 hour first then press half load would that be right. Read the direction not the best direction. I get it working but not sure if the half load thing is working lol. According to the manual it says 'Half Load can reduce water consumption when washing small, lightly soiled loads that fill approximately half or less of the dishwasher’s capacity". This to me sounds like you should only use the top or bottom rack to run a half a load. Running the cycle for one hour will just spray less water throughout the whole hour. I hope that helps.

I just had the 5oo Series installed today. It ran through a cycle but dishes were still wet. I tried to figure our out to dry only w/o success. Also, buttons must have gotten locked, because only AUTO lights up (even after turning off and back on several times). How do I use the other button settings? And rinse or dry w/o rewashing?
I am having the same issues with "drying" and the "lights"? I do have the 300 series and can't figure it out grrr
@Lynn Thompson and @Teresa Atkinson. You have to use Finish Jet Dry as a rinse aid, it needs to be refilled every month, this will dry the dishes.
Unfortunately I’m not sure about the “lights” issue, you may need to ask Bosch support.
Depress the on/off button for 4 seconds and everything should reset
Can you open the door once the dishwasher starts to add items? Is there a special option that needs to be selected besides Resume? Just got my new dishwasher and want to go by the book….
We have opened the dishwasher when we forget that it is running, we close it and it auto resumes.
I’ve been using a brand of soap (that I will not name) that has produced a lot of suds at the bottom after a wash is complete. I called Bosch and they were no help at all. Have you ever encountered this? I appreciate your advice. Thanks
Not soap suds, but in the beginning, we did use a liquid form of one brand, but it wasn't working very well on stainless steel leaving them with a dirty greyish residue. We switched to the powder form of a different brand, Cascade and we've never had problems since, the capsules also work well. Try another brand or form of soap and see if it still happens.
How do you adjust the black prongs on the lower rack?
I'm not exactly sure how to 'adjust' did you want to move them to another position? On the model I have, I can't adjust them other than pull them up or lay them down. Sorry, I can't be of much help, perhaps someone else can comment.

Yes, the cycle times are on the left side of the machine, you just need to select Normal or speed (1hour). My Auto program runs for 2hr25mins. Perhaps your model is different.
The big question is that eventually one of the wheels on the upper rack adjustment arm is going to break and it’s going to cost $70 to replace the arm. It be nice if you could just replace the wheel but it doesn’t appear that that is possible. Now that I replaced the arm for $70, I am now scratching my head trying to figure how to get the old arm off and the new arm on. I cannot figure out how it comes off.

@@MeemReviews Well it is too late, but I would love it if you could post a video on how to swap out a wheel. The sad story is that after I had bought the new part, I called Bosch for some guidance on how to install the new part, and they told me that they would come for FREE and do the whole job. I can't return the $70 part, but now at least I have an extra spare part. No on here on UA-cam seems to have a video on how to replace the part or even better - replace a wheel on the part.

You probably figured it out by now, but if not, try inserting it at an angle making sure the ‘hook’ slides in between the rollers. Sorry I know that sounds easy to do but it is a little tricky. Let us know if u managed to get it in by now, sorry for the delayed response.

You didn't show how to align the water connection to the sprayer. Probably because it's not very easy!

Yes it most likely will, but you may have to just press the start button again.
