Parasect was by far my MVP when I did a casual Bug monotype run. Leech Life seems so awful until you realize that there are so many Grass, Poison, and Psychic types in the game that it's effectively running at 60 power during an awful lot of important encounters. Still not the best move in the world but more than enough to drain most mons safely in combination with Spore.
Reflecting on it, I think a distance-gradient would be effective. Each "Route" you need to skip is either 1 or 2 points. So if you can get some levels on the trainers in Rt 3 and that's enough, -1 point. Have to go all the way to the end of Mt. Moon? -5 points. Skip Mt. Moon and head to Cinnabar? idk, -10 or -15 points? On top of additional things, like being dinged for using TMs...
Fun side note, in my fire red solo runs I do for fun - where I let Pokemon get move tutor moves at the start of the game Parasect can solo fire red on super minimum battles by accessing swords dance from the start OP and underrated Kanto pokemon for sure!
One thing that might help your strategies is to have a calculation of how much experience a given trainer will provide. Apart from the Rival having variation based on which starter is chosen, every trainer is always going to give a set amount of Exp, and you'll be able to know beforehand if you're going to level up during the battle. You wouldn't even have to do it for every trainer, probably just Rival 5/6, the Elite Four/Champion, and maybe some late Gym leaders, because it doesn't usually become a factor until late.
This is actually in my future plans for the overlay. Basically at the start of the battle I want to do a quick team overview scene on the right that will summarize stats and where we would level up.
Anyone else remember when in the second run of Twitch Plays Pokémon Red a Parasect named -? (Dubbed the Leech King) carried the entire run? Good times. (The romhack used for that playthrough heavily rebalanced the game and made Leech Life much more powerful, which combined with Spore and deceptively good bulk made Leech King nigh unkillable)
Parasect's speed is what is making it so tricky to use efficiently. Now,add to that the 4 times weakness to flying, fire, bug, and poison. And it makes the run so different to approach. But it had a great attack, and great way to boost that stat, alongside spore and growth. Extra usage of tms and the early game got it's rank pretty low. I think that for optimal play, use the Brock thourgh walls glitch to get dig and Brock is getting trival at level 11 I think.🤔 Rival 2 and Misty will remain Parasect's walls up until it can get better moves. And also, the Zombie mashrom need some extra love, and I can't wait to see it become a ghost bug type.😊
Did you know, that none ever did RBY solo playthrough with these: - Charmeleon - Nidorina - Nidorino - Machoke - Weepinbell - Graveler? I wonder how good they are.
As for other Pokemon that deserve the Ghost typing for this month our immortal king the Seaking! Ok there's no great reason for turning Seaking into a lich over other waters but it's pretty unremarkable anyway plus seeing a generation 1 Waterfall is always good.
I watched a video where someone did that for firered, alongside some moveset tweaks (adding ghoat stab i think) and it was honestly busted. Very interested to see how that'd change in RBY
If you need to get a mt moon tm, then it should be a broken tm for 10 points(raichu is probably the only pokemon that would need mega punch). And if you need to get something after mt moon, like blizzard, then it should be 15 points instead. I guess if you have to go all the way to the safari zone to get double team, then it would be worth 20 points. I think that rating the actual usage of BTW is kinda hard for pokemon that just need a few extra levels from trainers. maybe you lose half a point for each trainer you fight before brock(maybe another half if you do them out of order too like you did with the super nerd, but idk if that matters that much.) I think that most of the points lost should be from using later TMs. Maybe you just rank them in a different list entirely
what is a gosh? thats new, spme use it all the time and even english subtitles start to use it. sont use it, its aweful, it sounds horrible and means nothing. it will age like milk. i will not chill bro...
we are at this point, why not split minimum battles between the default sequence of trainers, and a free sequence of trainers, why even bother with navigating through the world. with skipping and glitching, minimum battles is broken anyways.
It does not only *feel* like forever, I feel like those anime transitions to the gym leaders / bosses are too long and interrupt your video flow. The actual champion intermission is 25 seconds!
BROCK! THROUGH! WALLS! No, wait...
I'm getting flashbacks to the parasect race, especially that damn goldeen trainer :D
Great vid as always man!
Yeah, it's rough with the 4x weaknesses.
I feel like Brock Skip and non-Brock Skip should have separate tables. Assuming you do "minimum" runs for every pokemon without skipping Brock.
Fair enough
Level 11 parasect: My powers have doubled since the last time we met, Count. Brock: Good. Twice the pride, double the fall.
We needed a good Anakin pun for his name....
a certain parasect fan will enjoy this.
They always love the Shrooms

old pkm was better balanced than most people know, everyone judges it by competitive and modern standards,
even smith missunderstands these old games.
I agree, Parasect had the potential to be OP, it just lacks speed. Once you know Gen 1 mechanics though it's really quite good

That would be so awesome to try!
Love to see a crystal with this vs The ghost version
That would be very interesting, especially with the Dark-type weakness
This is always a great gaming video

Yeah the Bide in the early game was the best approach I could find, but it kills the score.
@@RBYPokemonChallenges Bide is not that reliable in my opinion because I don't like in particular bide strat, but it's does work in the end.🤔

every adolescent has to do this, it's a rite of passage to embrace that awkward bridge from childhood to adulthood
I've already done Weepinbell, it's top 5. Machoke I did but never posted.
@@RBYPokemonChallenges oh, great. u2b's search-algorythm sometimes messes with me, but now I got it. Big thank you.
Type swap run would be fair for Parasect since he is basicly a zombie parasite mushroom so bug ghost type is only logical.
Agreed, that run is out now!
As for other Pokemon that deserve the Ghost typing for this month our immortal king the Seaking!

Lol, sounds fun
I’m finally catching up on YT after all I missed 🔥🔥
Welcome back!
I think ghost type Mew would be interesting. I think it could do mini battles
Definitely could
@@RBYPokemonChallenges also think it would not need to learn any tms
Consider ghost grass too because the bug dies not the shroom!
I watched a video where someone did that for firered, alongside some moveset tweaks (adding ghoat stab i think) and it was honestly busted. Very interested to see how that'd change in RBY
I think Ghost/Bug is more appropriate, but Ghost/Grass could be fun in a different setup.
@@RBYPokemonChallenges tangela?
This man is hilarious
Do my best....
30:10 did you know that in terms of...
Ditto should be ghost. Because it already died in the previous battle
Amazing, let's do it! Problem is, it takes on the typing of the Pokemon it transforms into, but I have a solution.
Thoughts on a grass ghost parasect? The mushroom is alive and the bug is the ghost
I could try this as a follow-up.
Walk through walls to get Body Slam.
Can't because you have to enter the SS Anne, which disables the walk through walls glitch. There are other more broken ways though...

30:00 we all know the actual reason why You got Vaporeon instead of Lapras 😏😏😏
👀
What's the joke?
@@fionordequester6748 you're better off not knowing
Vaporeon run incoming. 😂
I wonder at rival 6 if you replace swords dance with mimic if that would work? Mimic agility
Yeah, Mimic would be the better play. I just don't use it because it's always OP.
New video 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

One trainer blocking a large number of pokemon from being able to complete minimum battles makes the challenge uninteresting
Agreed. I decided to test some skips because it has been a common request on the channel for like 3 years.
