NFC Tags and QR Codes in Home Assistant

When browsing to your Home Assistant instance, this is usually - homeassistant.local:8123. If this does not work, try homeassistant:8123. If all else fails, check your router's device listing for the IP address. If you have an SSL certificate set up, remember to use https: in front of the URL.

Hey there, great presentation! this is an underrated feature, as one could have cameras set up around the house that have windows and doors within frame, which when opened would display a QR code that would trigger an automation. In addition to this, one might set up image recognition via DOODS (or frigate, etc) using the same cameras at no extra cost, and trigger a different automation when the person is within the frame.

Thanks for the awesome videos! Newbie here, I have a raspberry pi4 8GB Ram 256SD. Having trouble picking between skyrocket or Sonoff zigbee 3.0 E to make it matter ready, also what else do I need to complete
PS: I already bought over 50 Agara sensors and 5 switches for repeaters over 50 Lutron Casetas switches for a new house and Apple TV and 5 pods, Aqara, Philip and Lutron hub just to mention a few.

Just wanted to note that on iOS devices, you can use shortcuts to make Home Assistant things work, which don’t require the phone to be unlocked. I’m not completely sure, it’s been a while since I’ve done anything with them.

I put the tag behind the wall faceplate. It works without seeing it.

@@drjablow That's a great suggestion. For anyone following this, please make sure you isolate the power supply (usually at the fusebox/distribution unit) before you do this to avoid electric shock.

Woukd a 2nd phone trigger the tag to turn on the light or only if it is running the same hone assistant program? In other words, is there a security issue with some one tapping on my tag which is programmed to open my garage door for example? Same issue with the QR code?

The tag just contains a string of text/numbers, it's the phone that decides what to do with it. It needs Home Assistant to make sense of it. To any other app or NFC reader it will just be a string of nonsense and they can't perform any action. You can however use a 2nd phone with Home Assistant to trigger the same action, I've got this set up with 3 people in my house.

When I try to add a new tag to HA, it doesn't show me the "Create & Write" option. I only see "create".
Any ideas why?

Setting it up is very easy, but I have another problem. On my Android phone, every time I scan the tag, it prompts to Open link 😢 I'd like to run automatons without additionally confirming or opening anything on the phone...

I am having the same problem on my iPhone. It is dumb to have to click the banner to open Home Assistant to trigger it. I am trying to find if I am missing a setting or something on the app.
