  • Doing a mild overclock of the i7 860 with a Gigabyte P55-UD4P motherboard. I'm not an expert so don't touch your BIOS if you don't know what you're doing. I did this video because I like watching them and if you have the same setup or similar you can use this to get a little more out of your hardware. This is just one way of doing it. I don't claim it's the best way. Use this how you will. BTW - I have used this to go up to 3.8 stable on prime95 for 12 hours

    Hey great video. I followed your guide and it works perfectly. OC'd my Core i5 to a mild 3.4Ghz, it's been rock stable and cool for over 2 months now 24/7.....awesome job.

    @ozpc123 I am using a Cooler Master TX-3 right now and during this video. It does a great job for such an inexpensive cooler The direct touch heat pipes make it work great! Zalman makes good coolers but I have never used them.

    @channel316 I have this system running at stock now most of the time. I use profiles in the BIOS to OC during the times when I plan to do RAW file editing or video encoding. I just enter the BIOS and activate the profile. I have forgotten what the settings are. I did some other videos that show most of the settings if you need them. Good luck to you. As I recall...I didn't do much with the voltage to make this OC though. Watch the rest of the vids.

    Thanks for the good words. I wish you the best. If you have used good paste and applied it correctly, you should be good to go. Good luck and enjoy!

    Very nice. I wish I had waited for the "A: series. The new SATA isn't worth much because you can't find drives fast enough to handle it, but the USB3 may be nice in the future.

    @nate42nd thanks for the reply.. actually i believe it is another prob. last week i cleaned my pc from dust etc and removed the fans.. and i didnt notice the thermal paste between cpu and heatsink.. so i have to open it again to put some paste.. prob it's this the prob.. cz everything works ok temps are now about 50 (i pressed the cooler harder in the mb) but with prime test within 2 mins it goes 80 and keeps rising..

    @thereddog223 HP machines have BIOS chips that prevent you from overclocking. If it's an HP you will not be able to overclock as far as I know. here are "extreme" measures you can take, but I cannot recommend that route.

    @giorgos19892 You probably missed a setting somewhere. Load optimized defaults and get it running optimized with RAM voltage and timings, then watch my video on storing profiles. Store that profile and name it "normal" then you can go back to those settings if you run into this problem again. Good luck man!

    @Mupp1t Run it at whatever makes your RAM run at 1600Mhz. It depends on what you have you base clock set to....

    Thanks man, glad it worked for you!

  • @nate42nd
    @nate42nd  14 років тому

    @Mupp1t That will make your RAM run very slow. Look at the speed it's at. You can safely run at least it's rated speed.

    NO, i am running a Cooler Master TX-3 cooler. It's a cheap one but it does a good job.

    i have a Gigabyte P55-UD4, i7 860 and tried it with success. the problem is that when i reverted back to normal it has a much higher temperature in idle than before and if loaded it goes at 90 in no time!!!

    It's very strange after overlooking like you did could not install windows. So , in the end just made safe defoult settings and it's working fine we have nearly the same specification. But it was working fine two weeks ,still can't understand, what was the matter. And it was starting like usually installation and after 100 procent just aborted.

    @djkub1 The BSODs are best analyzed to see what's going on. sevenforums will help you out as well as a few other sites. I started getting them recently. I had to re-install.....good luck man.

    @sysmemful If it works and doesn't heat up.....use it. Watch your other components though.

    @nate42nd it was a total different prob.. last week i cleaned the pc and deassembled it and the cpu fan didnt have thermal paste.. :s after some pushing to fit better it dropped significant.. :)

    @nate42nd  14 років тому

    I would leave them at default. You may have a different PSU or some other hardware. Leave them unless you really want to try it. Good luck.

    is it ok to use touch bios to overclock and do I need to change the voltage from auto to a set voltage if OCing to 4.0ghz?

  • @nate42nd

    @SavaMarkovicPilot Sure, the general principles apply. Not the exact settings. Good luck.

    • @MirzaAnshari

      I have this CPU too, and with stock cooler at stock speed it hits 97 celcius with prime95. I'd rather say no he won't be using that. And for overclock we basically have to buy buy some aftermarket cooler
