agree, I still have it running on 4000 MHz with no problems, only thing I had to do is upgrade my graphics card to r9 280x (from my old 295gt) right now and add 6gb ram to my old 6gb DDR3 making total 12gb, and for sure adding ssd disk and I guess I am good for few more years.
ok, I know that there are no moving parts, but wasn’t really looking what that abbreviation means thanks for clarifying, any way it is nice improvement to have my operating system now running from ssd
In the same boat broski... try disabling HT while keeping same QPI, base clock, FSB and crank the uncore X..... seems to run much cooler and also helps with the bus load. I know it sounds silly, but i went from 60fps-like 90fps by JUST doing that in planetside 2.
This presenter is SO good at explaining things. Man you are good !! What a presenter !! (all in his head, natural and not reading this off a board). Keep up the GREAT work and thanks for all of that info - I've just built an i7 and won't be attempting an OC just yet but will definitely look more into my bios after this video to understand more. Thanks !
It was most likely recorded with a professional 1080i HDV camcorder (which uses digital MiniDV tapes) and then exported to low resolution for UA-cam. Back then UA-cam didn't support high resolutions and most people didn't even have fast enough internet to watch HD videos. The original footage from the camcorder would have looked a LOT better. UA-cam added 480p support in March 2008 and 720p in July 2009. I think they added 16:9 support around November 2008 but this video is still 16:9 in a 4:3 frame with black bars on the top and bottom
Let me further elaborate. For setting overclocking records, you are absolutely right that you need the d0 batch. But for DAILY usage, they'll both run around the same speed before you start adding too much heat/voltage for comfort levels. So, in all practical purposes, they do overclock the same in the end of the day which is what I was referring to.
What a "Blast-from-the-past". I remember watching this video on my i5 750 while building my younger brother's PC on Triple-Channel memory. With everything happening right now @ LMG with the Gamer's Nexus video & Madison tweets...
Getting a second generation i7 2600k sandy bridge later today. You can only overclock the multiplyer on them and it is supposed to be simpler in nature, but a 5ghz overclock stable is achievable from the 3.4 stock. However there was a product recall in earlier motherboards due to a problem with the intel chipsets for Sandy bridge chips. Respected sellers will have sent them back, but I expect some sites will sell these out cheap.
@bazengao I wouldn't recommend software or auto overclocking of any kind. There are FSB modifiers, which can be used to increase overclocks on locked down machines (such as Dells) but they're very limited due to a lack of v-mods. SetFSB is the software I've seen used, but not used it myself.
My I7 is 3.4 with a turbo boost to 3.8, plus it says That the prossesor is unlock. I have a 800 wat power suply. U telling me that i will not be able to do it with 800 wat? This video is old do u still overclock like that with the prossesors that came out this year?
hi, i finally got a intel core 2 quad pc with 8gb ram so i could work on my HD video from my canon hf200. i want to ask when i edit videos with more than 1 track like 4, 5, 6 or 7 on my sony vegas pro 9, some how it the video starts slowing or skipping when trying to preview. do you know how to speed it up, cause i just got it new.
What this vid could really use is a 'summary' of all the options and settings in bullet form in the description of the video. But otherwise, nice tutorial as I am contemplating in 2020 overclocking my i7 940 on my Asus P6X58-E-WS motherboard.
Also a tip for anyone who doesn't know. HCI Memtest is VASTLY SUPERIOR to Memtest86+. It will find errors in 20 minutes tha Memtest86+ takes days to find, and most of the time it will find any problems within 20 minutes as well.
Should you lock voltages to default values? So it doesn't auto up them and give you an unstable impression of your max base clock? (sorry if I don't know what I am talking about)
@AmbientChong11 no you misunderstand, you MUST run a stress test, 7 hours is not necassary, 30 mins of LinX or Prime95 is plenty, not stress testing at all is extremely risky as if your processor is not in a 100% stable state it can damage your Operating system and eventually will die out.
Question: I have i7 940 and 1600mhz Corsair 12 gb ram, BUT, 3 sticks are XMS and other three are XMS Platinum. So, the question is, would it somehow be a problem with two slightly different sets of RAM, although they're same make and even type of memory, only Platinum is umm, fucking platinum, god knows what's the difference? And would I need to overclock my CPU in order to run RAM at it's stock speed? By the way, I have Asus P6T SE mobo. Thank you in advance!
49Moody, if your computer won't start up at all, you can clear the BIOS (check the motherboard's user manual because each board is different). Once you clear the BIOS settings you should be able to boot up again just fine.
yes u will as the registry on the SSD is linked to that motherboard mac address and also the port adresses as well of the old motherboard. remember it like this if u change the motherboard everything starts from scratch
@sammyman60 ok, thanks. but just to be shoure, you are saying that if i am presisly under tha max temp of cpu then my room can not go over that temp that it has when i check the temp?
HeY buddy Nice vedio, Subscribed, Hey could you please suggest me for a good mobo in $150 with intel e 7500 cpu and $54 for graphic card .I want to play crysis and nfs like high end games.Thanks.
Yes, I said it is enough if you want to do swapping. If you do nothing more than just browse the web, create spreadsheets and word documents, then 3 GB is more than enough. Not enough for more intensive apps like games, video rendering etc
My friend has an I7 870 we literally found in the trash, got a 460 watt power supply (got from an incomplete PC that we were given) and we just bought a 650Ti since that is all we could afford on our $50 budget
Watched this video 13 years ago, when I built this system, my son was born then. Now 13 years later he pressed reset bios to default when water cooling pump quit and I have to do research again to get it back to 3.6ghz 😂 So long term result - this cpu lasted 13 years, overclocked at 3.6ghz, still working 🙂
1.25v is a little low I think for the max CPU voltage. 1.35v is safe(as long as load temps are below 80),but going past 1.4v for 24/7 use, I don't recommend, unless you can afford to replace the CPU.
qqstar, AMD and Intel both have the same number of cores -- 4. Intel has hyperthreading though which allows 2 simultaneous strings to run on each core allowing for 8 threads to be run at once, but this shouldn't be confused with having 8 cores.
@trigun989 basically, i turn off all the power saving bullshit like speedstep, up the bclk to 191, put the multi on 21, up the voltages and qpi, run stress testing software like prime95 blend (10 hours) and LinX and your done.
the point of overclocking is so that you can achieve higher speeds. So lets say for example your CPU is running 2.66 ghz, and you need more power, this is where overclocking comes in. So you will be able to overclock to lets say 3.66, or even higher, just dont put it too high, or it could corrupt, same goes for gfx cards. As for intel or AMD, its more of what you like as both chips are great, but more people prefer Intel over AMD, and AMD in some cases is more expensive.
what kind of Gigabyte Motherboard is Installed in the Case shown @ 0:30mins? Rest of the Hardware would also be nice to know. like VGA, Liquid Cooling System etc.
Hey man this video was OC!!! I didn´t understand all of it! So you try with the low settings the max baseclock, the ram frec, and the volrage, but when do you put them all together? I mean when you were rising the cpu clock with x20 mult, ram at x6 and reach the max with the max voltage do you rise also the memory?
@vpklotar it can, you don't have to listen to me, but just save up for an i7,even stocked clocked its uberly fast and stays cool, but i guess it depends what you are going to use it for. i use it for gaming and of-course, the faster the better, but the higher the overclock, the more heat to the CPU, the bigger the load it must carry, and OC that to 4.4 your room must stay at a constant temp. just some help, if it does help
Was the falling on the boxes scripted?? I loved it also you are speaking so fast, i can barely take the time to understand the specifications of each parts then you jump to another. Great vid!
MP technology is changing so rapidly that what I studied in my engineering curriculum just a year ago hardly helps me to understand everything about i7. I wonder what about the layman ppl.
Holy smokes, I was looking for a guide to OC my i7 930 and found this. Wow, Linus so young and pure here :D I wonder if he already at that moment had an idea about creating LTT ever. 🤔
I still have my sabertooth x58 i7 920 24 gig 1800 ram at 3.8 gig with 2xHD 5850 OC'd and can do xx10.1 max detail just fine. Got the sabertooth at micro enter open box for 78$. Had the i7 for 9 years. Just one of my collect on all the pc chipsets
No, dual channel memory in comparison to triple on the core i7. I believe the i5's don't have as much cache memory as the i7 either, but don't quote me on that.
Stock fans are never adept for mid to high over-clocks. They typically use 80mm fans which don't have a high CFM and their heatsinks are typically not very good.
hey what shuld I buy a gtx560(evga 256bit) or a i7(920)+motherboard+6gbram that cost me duble than the gtx560. Price for the kit is 260euro, for the evga 160euro . All so wonder if my recom 550 plus psu is going to work with the gtx560.
i have a question my pc acts weird when i turn the power on sometimes it will say welcome for ever like i let it go for a hole day so what i have to do is hold the power button till it turns off then i have to turn it back on and seclect restart before login then when i get the computer on it works fine or if it has been off for awhile on start up the icons dont load and if im running my flight sim and watch a youtube video it just shutdowns its a HP pavilion elite HPE with the AMD 6 core
I prefer dual core Intels. I7s have crazy heat problems and don't overclock nearly as well as Core 2 Quads, and Core 2 Duos overclock better than Core 2 Quads. As a result, dual core does anything gamers need, costs a lot more and ends up being as fast as anything else after taking into account the overclock differences.
No need to re-install, but due to the license is bound to the motherboard, you will need a new license. Or use a crack/loader for it to fix, but that is up to you.
Yes Its safe. I belive you can go to 1.5 before its really an unsafe level.Make sure it will pass prime95 or OCCT and monitor your temperature. Using something like Real Temp 3.0. Is it a c0 steeping? I have a d0 at 4.2 at 1..250
The point of overclocking is getting the most performance out of your chip. It is possible to get a core i7 920 to perform better than a 975 and the 975 is about $1,000 more expensive than the 920.
950 @ 4Ghz HT on 1.264v load or 1.248 HT off on air 24/7 still going! I know I can go higher, I just liked having that voltage. I have done 4.4 on air but it starts getting in the 80s. 4.2 HT off @ 1.28 IIRC. Love x58! Got a good chip I think.
