Let me be the first then to welcome you to the Ren-gades. 😊 Like many of us, Ren has left you in awe of his talent, honesty and vulnerability with this masterpiece and hopefully captured your attention to discover more of his art bc this guy is not a one hit wonder! For a little info on him let me start by stating that this video was recorded as a 'live one take' (after around 4 attempts) something he has become quite known for doing. I'm glad u noticed the lights and how they changed. Did u also notice the shadows on the floor and on his face? Did you see that the light on the 'bad side' was bold, big and standing right in front, whereas the lamp on the 'good side l' was small and tucked away in a little corner? The room itself represents 'Ren's mind; dilapidated and run down. Now there is a reason for this. Unfortunately, when Ren was around 17 he got 'discovered' busking and got signed to a big label. Ren was ecstatic and thought he finally made his childhood dreams come true. Unfortunately, he soon became ill and as time went on got progressively worse until they parted ways and the contract was no more. After many negative tests, Drs decided Ren's ailment must be in his head and he got misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and manic depression among other things. As a result he received a lot of wrong medication that just aggrevated his condition to the point of suffering psychosis as he mentions here. Unfortunately, it took around 10 years of suffering extreme pain and fatigue (among other symptoms) to discover that he actually had Lyme's Disease but by then the disease has progressed affecting his organs including his brain and his immune system. At his worst Ren spent 23hs a day in bed and couldn't even stand in a shower bc of the excruciating pain. And this is how he spent most of his 20s, watching the World go by while he suffered. Thankfully, he has recently been having treatment for his condition in Calgary, Canada, where he is now and doing much better. Despite all this, Ren never stopped writing music and recently released an album which actually got to #1 here in the UK a couple of weeks or so ago...one heck of an achievement especially considering Ren is completely independent and most of his videos are made on a shoestring budget. He taught himself to play the guitar and I believe the piano too plus he plays other instruments such as drums and bass as well as composing and producing his music too. I hope my comment was helpful and apologies for being so long but i really do hope you decide to react to more. It's actually three videos (although one isn't listed in the title) that are available individually as "Jenny's Tale", "Screech's Tale", and "Violet's Tale", but you really do need to see/react to them together. All three are also live recording and continuous-shot videos done with his friend Samuel Perry-Falvey.
@@AudioLunch Right now, his new album is #1 in the UK, I think it's #11 in the US... a guy who's been in Canada for the last 6 months or so getting stem cell treatments from the damage misdiagnosed Lyme Disease did to his brain and body as referenced in this song. No label, just him with his friends making astounding music and videos. Need to check out "Money Games" 1-3. That's his latest videos and has a bit more budget. "Hi Ren" was done for about $1000 in his landlord's basement without permission. "Tale of Jenny and Screech" and "Violet's tale" also done on change and are amazing story telling. Ren is a master of rap, self taught guitarist, makes his own beats since he was about 12, added other talents and skills as needed. He's been through the wringer medically and it's astounding he's still alive... much less one of the most respected musicians out there at the moment. He has a huge back catalog of work you can dive as deep as you want into... none of it sucks.
Ren's album sic boi recently hit #1 in the U.K. totally independent not being able to tour as he's spent most of the year being treated for his auto immunity years of being prescribed the wrong medications being told it's in his head to after years hes had lyme disease. I've watched many interviews with ren but if you really want to know his struggles his interview with the charismatic voice Elizabeth is a world renown opera singer who specializes in breaking down the voice but she was great at finding out how rens history of health issues and thinking he thought his opportunity had passed him by also his interviews with Dustin Hawkins an Knox Hill , Black Pegasus. Among others are very insightful. Ren blew everyone away in 2023 an it couldn't have happened to a more deserving individual everyone who hasn't support rens music if you can 🙂
Welcome to the wonder that is REN. He's a master of 1 take audio/video's and he breaks rules (as easily as he broke the 4th wall). He is self taught so he doesn't worry about "correct" only that it's right for what he's trying to express. His cult... I mean fans... are fiercely loyal, protective and welcome all opinions as long as they are sincere and without malice. If you do more Ren, we'll be here. We can't watch him again for the 1st time so we enjoy watching others find out what we already know. He's a rare, deep, thoughtful musical poet.

I was first introduced to Hi Ren by a heavy metal reactor who didn't know anything about Ren. You could tell by his reaction throughout the video how it changed his worldview. Dude began his hero's journey after this video and is now living his best life in Hawaii with his wife and new baby. It transformed him so thoroughly you can see it. He was a grizzled rocker, now he's a Zen master. The transformation is ongoing and it's a joy to witness. He started me on my Ren journey and I continue on it still. He is an amazing artist and life is much better in the world where Ren exists. I grow sad for those who have not yet made the journey into the Reniverse. Thank you for your thoughtful reactions. This information gives you some background on Ren and puts much of his music and performance art in perspective. I gathered the information from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's public livestreams and posts. All the information here was gathered exclusively from sources Ren personally approved for public release. Ren is a Welsh independent artist, musician, producer, and mostly self-taught multi-instrumentalist. He pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures, which eventually caused him to discontinue his studies and return home. In addition, Ren was signed by Sony Records in 2010 and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point that he was unable to go on; consequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren would later relocate to Brighton. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada undergoing treatments. His Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Hence, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. He recently took a break from treatments and returned to the UK to visit family and friends, and to produce some very ambitious musical projects which he just released. I'm a 52 year old music junkie as well.He independently was able with no shows or promotion besides social media he reached #1 in the u.k. with the release of sic Boi. His catalog is remarkable. The "She sells sea shells on the seashore" comes from a previous song of his called, "Money Game 2". I highly suggest you watch all three Money Game videos (MG2 is a lyric video). Follow that up with trilogy, "The Tales of Jenny and Screech". Yup. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Ren is therapy for so many from one song he helps so many people open up in ways therapists struggle to do in person. First time i watched Hi Ren i had a panic attack but thought i needed to watch it again so i watched someone reacting to it that was the best thing i could do i have watched many times since. One thing i think about this song is it needs to be seen by every one even in schools after a certain age, because how many children kill themselves because of the negativity towards them from nasty comments and bullying to them believing what is said. I went through hell, bullied all through school to the point i attempted suicide twice, and to many issues in my life since then I am a recovering alcoholic 11 years clean I suffer PTSD and other health issues so the majority of bad days over good is high, if this bullying had been dealt with i may have had a reasonable life not the existence i have to deal with now

This was a live audio recording with a single lavalier microphone. During Ren's interview with The Charismatic Voice, he says he gained a LOT of experience by producing the recordings of The Big Push busking videos and my have to adjust note-for-note in some sections (like when he turns his head away or toward the mic). This is just scratching the surface of the Ren rabbit hole. I'll sub to join you on your journey. His album "Sick Boi" just released #1 in the U.K. and on the Billboard Top 200 albums. He did it without a record label, without a tour, without radio play or promotion beyond social media/UA-cam while he was in Canada with an I.V. in his arm 5 days a week getting treatment for the damage done by his illnesses and (hopefully) preventing further damage. Guitarist, pianist, and a few more instruments - singer, rapper, beatboxer, producer, actor (in his videos), songwriter, poet/lyricist, and whatever else you can think of, Ren will continue to surprise you. His friend Samuel Perry-Falvey was the cinematographer on this and many of Ren's videos. They didn't have permission to use this location and just as they were ready to start recording, the landlord told them to leave. After much begging, they were able to get in 4 attempts. He's a king of guerilla video shoots - something like this may have cost about 500 pounds.
Been watching Ren from a far. These series of videos have brought Ren to my home! I don't listen to rap yet his rhymes brings me peace. I can relate to so much of what he says. This is special. He could do a concert like this. keeps me on the edge of my seat....most unique.

love your reaction, Ren is genius and is raw concentrated talent. Ren has done something no other musician or band has ever done, for me at least, he has evoked emotional and physiological response. I have been in awe, stunned, silent reverence, cried, laughed, chills, danced, restored my hope, put me back to a path of healing, shown me the power and importance of unity, leaving me in a safe place. all this from a man I have never met. I used to laugh at the film clips of women at Beatles or Elvis concerts crying.....now I get it. those clips always showed people of the same age. Ren once he is able to do a "tour" (I suspect that will have a whole new experience and meaning to) the RENegades will be every age....I know you will feel the energy of the crowd miles before you hit the parking lot! what a brilliant comment. i too often thought what idiots those youngkids screaming and crying at people like elvis and the beatles, but i will admit as an eighty year old young-at -heart man i would be crying my eyes out if i could ever go to a ren concert. for me it gives hope that this world isn't as bad as the news would make us seem. when you read the comments left on reactors comment section what other artist has helped fix and save so many lives. someone suggested the nobel peace prize and i agree, also the macarthur genius grants.

'Bard Core' with shades of Shakespearian structure, storytelling, humor, biting sarcasm, iambic meter et al So many elements showing that Ren during his process through hardships and illness was always when he was able and even when he was not able, refining his craft. I'm sure you will be discovering more. HIs 'Big Push' work you know a bit, but you will see it differently now that you have said 'hi to Ren'...welcome to the REN egades...remembering and feeling that we are human and offering our best and when we fall short or are in the dark...reaching out for the hope full side...
I had to subscribe to you guys, your reaction is phenomenal! I hope you can react to more Ren songs. I would recommend 'Sick Boi' for your next one as it explains more detail about Ren and his past/illnesses. I also recommend reacting to 'The Tale of Jenny & Screech' but with this one make sure to use the official music video as its a trilogy to make up the story. Ren's music has touched a lot of people including myself, and me being a metal head mostly and not very into rap, Ren is a very different kettle of fish and now he's one of my favourite artists I've ever heard. Some people nickname his music genre, 'Bardcore', because he does express most of his music 'Bard-like' and its much different to anyone that I've ever heard before. It's actually three videos (although one isn't listed in the title) that are available individually as "Jenny's Tale", "Screech's Tale", and "Violet's Tale", but you really do need to see/react to them together. All three are also live recording and continuous-shot videos done with his friend Samuel Perry-Falvey.
@@AudioLunch Right now, his new album is #1 in the UK, I think it's #11 in the US... a guy who's been in Canada for the last 6 months or so getting stem cell treatments from the damage misdiagnosed Lyme Disease did to his brain and body as referenced in this song. No label, just him with his friends making astounding music and videos. Need to check out "Money Games" 1-3. That's his latest videos and has a bit more budget. "Hi Ren" was done for about $1000 in his landlord's basement without permission. "Tale of Jenny and Screech" and "Violet's tale" also done on change and are amazing story telling. Ren is a master of rap, self taught guitarist, makes his own beats since he was about 12, added other talents and skills as needed. He's been through the wringer medically and it's astounding he's still alive... much less one of the most respected musicians out there at the moment. He has a huge back catalog of work you can dive as deep as you want into... none of it sucks.
Ren's album sic boi recently hit #1 in the U.K. totally independent not being able to tour as he's spent most of the year being treated for his auto immunity years of being prescribed the wrong medications being told it's in his head to after years hes had lyme disease. I've watched many interviews with ren but if you really want to know his struggles his interview with the charismatic voice Elizabeth is a world renown opera singer who specializes in breaking down the voice but she was great at finding out how rens history of health issues and thinking he thought his opportunity had passed him by also his interviews with Dustin Hawkins an Knox Hill , Black Pegasus. Among others are very insightful. Ren blew everyone away in 2023 an it couldn't have happened to a more deserving individual everyone who hasn't support rens music if you can 🙂
Welcome to the wonder that is REN. He's a master of 1 take audio/video's and he breaks rules (as easily as he broke the 4th wall). He is self taught so he doesn't worry about "correct" only that it's right for what he's trying to express. His cult... I mean fans... are fiercely loyal, protective and welcome all opinions as long as they are sincere and without malice. If you do more Ren, we'll be here. We can't watch him again for the 1st time so we enjoy watching others find out what we already know. He's a rare, deep, thoughtful musical poet.

I was first introduced to Hi Ren by a heavy metal reactor who didn't know anything about Ren. You could tell by his reaction throughout the video how it changed his worldview. Dude began his hero's journey after this video and is now living his best life in Hawaii with his wife and new baby. It transformed him so thoroughly you can see it. He was a grizzled rocker, now he's a Zen master. The transformation is ongoing and it's a joy to witness. He started me on my Ren journey and I continue on it still. He is an amazing artist and life is much better in the world where Ren exists. I grow sad for those who have not yet made the journey into the Reniverse. Thank you for your thoughtful reactions. This information gives you some background on Ren and puts much of his music and performance art in perspective. I gathered the information from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's public livestreams and posts. All the information here was gathered exclusively from sources Ren personally approved for public release.
Ren is a Welsh independent artist, musician, producer, and mostly self-taught multi-instrumentalist. He pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures, which eventually caused him to discontinue his studies and return home. In addition, Ren was signed by Sony Records in 2010 and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point that he was unable to go on; consequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren would later relocate to Brighton.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada undergoing treatments. His Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Hence, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. He recently took a break from treatments and returned to the UK to visit family and friends, and to produce some very ambitious musical projects which he just released. Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. He just dropped Money Game Part 3 maybe a month ago, and if you thought this one-take video was amazing, wait until you see Money Game Part 3. If you watch all 3 in order you'll really get a sense of how much he's learned and grown. You've started an incredible journey and as musicians you'll be able to appreciate every moment.

Ren is therapy for so many from one song he helps so many people open up in ways therapists struggle to do in person.
First time i watched Hi Ren i had a panic attack but thought i needed to watch it again so i watched someone reacting to it
that was the best thing i could do i have watched many times since. One thing i think about this song is it needs to be seen
by every one even in schools after a certain age, because how many children kill themselves because of the negativity
towards them from nasty comments and bullying to them believing what is said. I went through hell, bullied all through
school to the point i attempted suicide twice, and to many issues in my life since then I am a recovering alcoholic 11 years
clean I suffer PTSD and other health issues so the majority of bad days over good is high, if this bullying had been dealt
with i may have had a reasonable life not the existence i have to deal with now
And NOW, he got the #1 spot on the album chart in the UK!!! He's come far and deserves it all.

This was a live audio recording with a single lavalier microphone. During Ren's interview with The Charismatic Voice, he says he gained a LOT of experience by producing the recordings of The Big Push busking videos and my have to adjust note-for-note in some sections (like when he turns his head away or toward the mic). This is just scratching the surface of the Ren rabbit hole. I'll sub to join you on your journey.
His album "Sick Boi" just released #1 in the U.K. and on the Billboard Top 200 albums. He did it without a record label, without a tour, without radio play or promotion beyond social media/UA-cam while he was in Canada with an I.V. in his arm 5 days a week getting treatment for the damage done by his illnesses and (hopefully) preventing further damage. Guitarist, pianist, and a few more instruments - singer, rapper, beatboxer, producer, actor (in his videos), songwriter, poet/lyricist, and whatever else you can think of, Ren will continue to surprise you.
His friend Samuel Perry-Falvey was the cinematographer on this and many of Ren's videos. They didn't have permission to use this location and just as they were ready to start recording, the landlord told them to leave. After much begging, they were able to get in 4 attempts. He's a king of guerilla video shoots - something like this may have cost about 500 pounds.

love your reaction, Ren is genius and is raw concentrated talent. Ren has done something no other musician or band has ever done, for me at least, he has evoked emotional and physiological response. I have been in awe, stunned, silent reverence, cried, laughed, chills, danced, restored my hope, put me back to a path of healing, shown me the power and importance of unity, leaving me in a safe place. all this from a man I have never met.
I used to laugh at the film clips of women at Beatles or Elvis concerts crying.....now I get it. those clips always showed people of the same age. Ren once he is able to do a "tour" (I suspect that will have a whole new experience and meaning to) the RENegades will be every age....I know you will feel the energy of the crowd miles before you hit the parking lot!
I also feel that people who live near the venues that he chooses, whether they know of Ren or not, will pick up on that energy ~ I am betting there will be many, many random acts of kindness just from being in proximity to those vibes!

what a brilliant comment. i too often thought what idiots those youngkids screaming and crying at people like elvis and the beatles, but i will admit as an eighty year old young-at -heart man i would be crying my eyes out if i could ever go to a ren concert. for me it gives hope that this world isn't as bad as the news would make us seem. when you read the comments left on reactors comment section what other artist has helped fix and save so many lives. someone suggested the nobel peace prize and i agree, also the macarthur genius grants.

'Bard Core' with shades of Shakespearian structure, storytelling, humor, biting sarcasm, iambic meter et al So many elements showing that Ren during his process through hardships and illness was always when he was able and even when he was not able, refining his craft. I had to subscribe to you guys, your reaction is phenomenal! I hope you can react to more Ren songs. I would recommend 'Sick Boi' for your next one as it explains more detail about Ren and his past/illnesses. I also recommend reacting to 'The Tale of Jenny & Screech' but with this one make sure to use the official music video as its a trilogy to make up the story. Ren's music has touched a lot of people including myself, and me being a metal head mostly and not very into rap, Ren is a very different kettle of fish and now he's one of my favourite artists I've ever heard. Some people nickname his music genre, 'Bardcore', because he does express most of his music 'Bard-like' and its much different to anyone that I've ever heard before.
