    Hi Maren, just found your channel. I will start house sitting next year. I will have a home base but how likely is it that I can get sit after sit because I don't want to always go all the way back to my house in between sits if they are not local sits. I know I can airbnb in between too but I'll hopefully not need to do that too often because that can add up ($$$).
    Also I really want to show how serious i am, so if you have additional tips since you made this video pls lmk.❤

      Hi friend, welcome to the channel! Glad to have you here. There is a Part 2 to this video if you didn’t see it yet: ua-cam.com/video/j9H843fGs-c/v-deo.htmlsi=CQf-uSddpwAuoKjX
      Great questions you’re asking. How hard it is to have back-to-back sits really depends how much you’re willing to travel between them, the season, and how aggressively you are applying.
      If you need to stay in a particular city, it can be harder to do. If you’re willing to drive to different cities, then it’s definitely doable. If you do need to stay in one city, car camping or crashing on a couch became my go-tos as I knew more people in the area, so that the air bnbs didn’t add up so quickly(because they really can add up quickly). I tried to stick to Air BnB or hotel as a last resort when it was too hot or cold to camp and I didn’t have someone to stay with. If you end up having to do a few nights per month paid for, it is still cheaper than rent anywhere was my logic at the time.
      Seasonality is definitely a factor too. I found summer much easier for housesitting than the other seasons because more people are on the move during that time, so for me I found summer much less competitive with more options. That made it a lot easier to line up the dates. Most people left from a weekend to a weekend so it worked out to line them up. Also sometimes I double booked myself, so I would end up with a day of overlap between sits. I found dealing with a day of overlap where I still had to go back and check on a pet while already moved to my new sit was easier than having a gap between sits.
      The last factor for how easy it is to do this is how aggressively and proactively you are applying to sits. I would apply to as many as I could (oftentimes checking the app at least twice daily) to get in as many applications as possible. I would rather 2 people choose me for the same dates and then get to have my pick of the dates/locations if they both wanted me. The more applications you put out, the more housesits you will get offered and the easier it will be to line up your sits.
      Likely the state/city/country you’re doing all this in also plays a role as THS is originally a UK site. I’m guessing UK and US are probably the easiest to do it in just because there are more users of the platform there, but this is just a guess as I have never tried to go international with this.
      Beyond this, check out my other THS videos below if you haven’t already seen them. I think they will answer a lot of other questions you might have:

      @marenmakesit thank you so much! When you get accepted to 2 sits how do you decline the one you don't go with? I mean do you tell them you applied to more than one sit and the other one is a better fit? They can't leave a bad review I guess but do they get annoyed?

    How long will it take to find a house that will accept me?

    • @marenmakesit
      @marenmakesit  6 місяців тому

      @@Alex-ik6pu If you have a solid profile, I’d say you can get booked for a sit within a few days if you apply to maybe 5+ different ones. Obviously, the more you apply to the better your odds. Keep in mind some homeowners take longer to respond to applications especially if their trip is still farther away. Some homeowners also only read the first one or two that apply, so definitely try to apply earlier rather than later. This might vary by area and how far out the sits are that you’re applying to as well. But it’s definitely very doable. I just helped a friend do it a few weeks ago and she now has now booked 3 sits through THS already.

    How can we find paid house-sitting jobs in the fastest way possible?

    • @marenmakesit
      @marenmakesit  Місяць тому

      @@armanrezvani2159 Word-of-mouth and using my connections by letting people know that I’m available for petsitting has been the best way to do this for me. When one person has a good experience with you, they suggest you to other friends who travel often etc.
      Alternatively, you can make a Facebook flyer and post it on local community Facebook groups or join an app like Rover (however that can take more time to build a profile/reputation I think).
