Fab video yet again Maren. I have had pet sitters look after my animals a few times. The best ones are the ones who keep me updated about my dog and cat. I like to see the photos. I also accomodate guest whippets, up to two at a time in my home, with my own whippet.I find it so much easier than when I used to do pet care house calls, as I can fit the guest dogs around my own life, rather than the other way around. I get so many return customers. I believe leaving a beloved pet in the care of someone else, whilst you go away, is always difficult, no matter how good the pet sitter is and every responsible pet owner wants their pet's routine and schedule to be maintained and for them to be relaxed, happy and at home with their sitter. I have been lucky, or successful, enough to be able to now essentially just specialise with caring for whippets in my own home, though I began with a visiting pet care service and covering all breeds and species of animals, as well as watring gardens. I have yet to do any pet sits in other people's homes, though may do in the futire, as part of my travels!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write out this thoughtful and detailed comment! I love hearing your experience with pets and pet care. I am in agreement -it’s hard to leave your pets with someone else and your home. It’s a big responsibility, and I always feel honoured when people trust me with that. What you’re doing sounds really smart to have the guest dogs be brought to you instead of spending your day driving around or constantly re-locating where you are staying. That sense of stability would make the whole situation much more sustainable and doable for you in the long run I would imagine. Again, thanks for sharing your experience and apologies for my delayed response!
Cool thanks for the content on Trusted Housitters! I've been curious about this for a while and your videos have given me confidence to take the plunge... Thanks again!

Hi sorry off topic i saw your video using wella color charm demi permanent cream haircolor to tone brassy.....do you shampoo after toning? Let me know please 😅 susan
Hi Susan, no worries. I’m always happy to talk hair color even on a different video. Nope, skip the shampoo when you rinse out the Wella Demi permanent hair color. Just rinse with water and then use conditioner once the water runs clear in the sink. The hair color is so fresh that using a shampoo would basically strip out some of it and undo some of what you just did. Let me know if that helps! -Maren
This was so helpful. I haven't joined the site yet, how many months in advance to people start looking for a sitter and does it increase your odds of getting a sit if they are looking for someone many months in advance? (As far as competition).
This is a hard question to answer I think it depends on the time of year and location somewhat. For example right now a lot of people in the U.S. are looking for Thanksgiving and Christmas sitters, so that’s about 2-3 months out. Some people do plan way ahead though and are posting things for next summer already. It really depends on the person. Generally longer sits get posted more in advance I would say than shorter ones (which makes sense because who can go on a spontaneous 1 month vacation vs. a spontaneous weekend away). I would say most listings are for sits between 3-8 weeks out. The best way to get your pick of dates/sits is to be constantly checking the site and applying to anything that makes any sense for your situation. That way you end up getting to have your pick of sits/situations. I think the least competitive ones to apply to are things that are last minute (starting in the next 2 weeks or less) because not many petsitters are able to accommodate last minute requests and change plans that fast. That’s my theory at least. Oftentimes the last minute ones say “low applications” on them, so that’s how I know they aren’t getting as many applicants.
