Doc explains why cutting the grass lawn short in the spring is actually good. The weather is generally nice and rains are usually plentiful. This is the time when the lawn is not stressed and can be cut very short. If seeding, this allows the new seeds to get the sunlight they need.

So glad I found you! Bought a home near Greenville SC with a Bermuda lawn - my first Bermuda - and discovered about mid-March the previous owner had done nothing but cut the grass for the past five years. Weeds everywhere! With all the rain and up-down temps, my best bet has been to just dig the weeds out! I’m just now to a point where I can begin following your expertise. Looking forward to it!

Once summer hits. Temps are 90 and above what height do you cut the grass. I have two active German Shepherd’s in the back yard. What height do you recommend cutting it.

not in Florida we only get 1 inch per month until May 20th, I tell people don't cut out the green cause it ain't coming back

Really doesn't matter with a reel mower, it has no suction. Most seed won't be bothered much by mowing but new young grass hates SHADE

I was thinking, should I fertilize the bald areas first? I am thinking my grass is going to reach out for food. Then fertilize the whole yard 2 weeks later.

I burn my Bermuda each spring. I burned it last Thursday and a week later and it’s already greening back up. This allows me to start the season of really short. The sections I don’t burn, I drop the mower and scalp it.
I cut my grass short till it starts getting hot then I let it grow taller still cut it once a week keep it from burning. Thanks for the video Doc !! What was that bass about a five pounder.?

Try Ortho's Orthene when they are active and granular like Andro on/around mounds. Spectrum also makes a granular that work well. Doesn't take much and the Orthene smells worse than rotten eggs but works great!

thanks for describing the reel mowers. I discovered why mine would not stop when I let go; the spring had disconnected. Now I am a happy reel mower operator!
