Been waiting on this review. Thank you guys!
Hope you enjoyed it!
The number of responses to comments from the source of the video is impressive. I've never seen this before. Usually I see questions but no answers. This gives a potential customer the feeling this company will stand behind their customers. I've subscribed and am looking for more great reviews of product.
Thanks! We always do our best to stay active in the comments and answer anything we can! If you ever need help or it may be too long of a reply, we recommend reaching out to our team of experts at audioadvice.com. We are happy to stand behind the products we sell and help our customers so they have the very best experience 😊 Happy to have you here!
Denon reputation doesn't compromise audio quality. Love this product.
Absolutely!
They just keep getting bigger and better!
You got that right!
What a beast of an AVR. I love how flexible it is.
Thanks for watching!
At this budget it would make better sense to go pre power
Great information, as always. Thank you!
Our pleasure!
A beast indeed! The last time I upgraded was some years back to a Denon AVR5308ci and a Yamaha RXZ11, both very competent receivers. While I liked the Yamaha's versatility, with 11 channels, the Denon had fewer channels but sounded great just the same. I just recently stumbled upon the AVR-A1H, and it appears to be nothing less than spectacular, with 15 channels and FOUR additional subwoofer connections! Dare I think of an upgrade?... At what point is too much is really too much? While I am still determining the latter, I am confident that the A1H is: a). Not over the board in thinking and application, and b). Perhaps just what the proverbial doctor ordered! The bit about lacking legacy component connections is a bummer, though I think this will be missed only by old boomers like me. My last full home theater could play everything from laser disks, RCA vision, Beta/Betamax, VHS/SVHS, and DVD to Blu-ray/4K Blu-Ray. (Neither the Denon AVR 5308ci nor the Yamaha RX Z11 can process 4/8K video.) I think most young folks will do just fine without the legacy connectors, so long as turntables continue to be supported. (I miss the heyday of the LPs, back in the 1970s, and into the early part of the 1980s). If I do opt for this "beast," it will have to be when I once again have the space necessary for a large home theater. Thank you for a very competent and informative presentation, and it would be nice to see a follow-up with the "beast" earning its keep in a home theater setting that utilizes all of its capabilities, including the 15.4 channels!
Thanks very much, glad you liked it
Looks good so far but i still wonder at a price from 7K, why nearly all higher priced AVRs have no Full Graphic Equalizer with 30 Bands or so with flexible Shelving optitions, Freq. Choice and 0,1 dB steps (something like a FabFilter Equalizer you use in Music Production). And the Menüs still always looks like they are from 1995.
We're happy they included the equalizer but we do wish it was more adjustable. For people who like to really dial things in, you will be limited here.
Enthusiasts have been asking for parametric eq for years and they keep ignoring the request in favor of audessey with it‘s really bad 20 buck app, trying to upsell us to the 200 moneys pc program or now dirac. Futhermore I have never heard an audessey calibration that was optimal, some even dangerous to the speakers giving huge boosts to bass oder in crossover frequencies. I don‘t want to get upsold to expensive 3rd party software licence, just let us enthusiasts calibrate our own system as we please. Thank you
Looking like they are from the 90s is cool!
Really happy that audio channels are increasing to get an immersive audio for home users on a single device...
Us too! Thanks for watching
@@AudioAdviceဆုင
Wow thats huge!
It's a BEAST of an AVR!
Beast is right - always loved the powerful Denon line of receivers!
Us too! Thanks for watching!
Still small PSU and not a lot of capacitance
Not sure my avr cabinet could carry it. LoL. Something I'll never own. Just a dream. When you own a farm you don't get to buy cool toys. All your money goes to equipment repair and insane property tax.
It is a beast of a receiver! Thanks for watching
True all in one AVR
Sure is!!
These are getting better and better
True!
Great review. Does the 8500 HA remote work with this unit? i notice they removed the lcd panel in the A1H
It does share the same IR codes but the issue is that the names of the inputs are different. So I wouldn’t recommend using older remote. And some of the buttons on older remote are not an option like MACROS. Hope this helps!
hello friends i have been following you for months and i love your videos...do you think the avr31 still has a better final sound than the avc a1h for a 5.2.4?
I currently have an avr30/31 and previously I had an 8500h that sounded great but in two channels I did not like it and xt32 seemed very limited to me.
I look forward to your wise answer😉
Thanks for the positive feedback. The AVR31 is a great sounding product. If that is what you have now, unless you hear something better we would advise sticking with it until there is a new format or other reason to upgrade such as adding more speakers, etc. Hope that's helpful.
Got mine ordered.
Nice!!
Lucky you
Please confirm your tracking #. Pay no attention to the man hiding in the bushes…
many thanks bro for all information and we do appreciate your valuable and sincere efforts delivering all these info, my question is about what is the wifi in this model? is it 5 or 6? I'm streaming audio via my Tblink ax6000 wifi 6 router. second: what is the best audio input for this device?
you don't need wifi 6 to stream audio, heck, you don't even need wifi 6 to stream 4k video content
@@Bryan-mn5to
My question was not about if I need wifi 6 or not Bryan !!!
Thank you for the kind words. We do not know the WiFi version but it should work fine with Wi-Fi 5 or 6. Or you can plug in via Ethernet for the most secure connection. There are a ton of speaker connections so it depends on what speakers you have. Chat with one of our experts at audioadvice.com if you need more info about your setup! Thanks!
Another great video I'm considering this do you think this av amp would drive my new Kef R11 Meta with the matching R6 Meta as these speakers are 4ohm ? Many thanks
Yes, that shouldn't be a problem for this beast. However if you're only driving 3 channels, there may be better solutions out there. Chat with our team or call us at audioadvice.com and one of our experts can help you out!
@@AudioAdvice As an owner of 8500ha and R11 with R2C I can tell you that it will be hard to find better solution. The Denon supports full biamp for these speakers. The R2C got a noticeable improvement after bi-amping. If you plan to add more R6 or R2 or R3 as rears you will be able to bi-amp them with this denon allowing you extract every last bit of sound quality from your kefs! The only better option is amplifiers putting out at least 300watts per channel like ncore etc.
Thanks so much for your advice. It looks like I'm going to spending a lot of money very soon cheers
@@Tofartony If you want to save money I would suggest you pick up a x8500ha if you can find a good deal. Honestly I don't think the A1H is worth buying until later in 2024 after Dirac have released the full multi sub version and it has been tested and reviewed extensively. Save yourself an easy 2k USD to spend on nice things THIS year.
Can it play SACD Native DSD? SACD over HDMI
don't know if a video has been done yet but i would like to know with audioadvices which is better the denon a1h or the sony straz7000es am looking for a new reciever and want to buy the best of the best so i am future proof for a long time
Both are extremely powerful and great options! We recommend chatting or calling our experts at audioadvice.com and they can help you pick the best one for your specific situation!
Can you please do a side by side comparison of this AVR with the Trinnov Altitude 16
Not really necessary as the Trinnov is in a different league performance and price wise. Thanks for watching our video!
Hi, can you confirm if this receiver has stereo pass through like my 7200WA did? Thank you. Great video.
There is a Pure Direct mode for the front left and right. We hope you will purchase your AVR A1H from Audio Advice to support our channel and small business. Thanks for watching
@Audio Advice thank you for the reply. Pure Direct just cuts out any video processing so the screen is blank and just audio processing is involved. I'm curious about stereo bypass so I can use a separate DAC and AMP for my stereo speakers when listening to two channel but the AVR allows you to control volume with the AVR itself so the speakers stay the same volume. Many AVRs don't have this feature you see. Thank you
@@WesleyH85 How will you connect the DAC? There is no digital out. For situations like yours, and they are very common with our high performance customers, most people use a Preamp DAC, connect their two channel sources to it and connect the left and right audio outs of the AVR to an input on the preamp/DAC. Many preamp DAC's have a home theater bypass that makes this very simple and easy to control.
@Audio Advice omg ignore me. Its my Naim Supernait 3 that has the audio bypass. Sorry it's been a long week in work 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Great unit with great power, However at that price one should think about separates. Separates are a lot more powerful and easier to upgrade if need too.
Great point. It is getting in the same ballpark. Thanks for watching
At the price of the AVR-A1H, denon should include Dirac for free.
Fair point.
Hmm, well I mine as well ask this here, what kind of upgrade should I expect going from an integra 5.4 to a Denon A1H, for I will be doing this upgrade, assuming I don’t hear any bad news/reviews about this Denon Receiver, within the next week I think… for I ordered one of these units from a local retailer, who will come by, and set it up, correcting the sound, to hopefully make it sound great. I also am a fan tha😊t I actually found it locally, after going to the store, and being told, its not on the website, since this receiver is a special buy, and I don’t think the store wants to stock this receiver, where it will instead be coming from a local warehouse, where they will also have someone come out and make sure it is set up properly… but I just want to say I have never herd the receiver, since the store I was at won’t be stocking the receiver, so they won’t have a demo available, but I am hoping to be impressed, after reading reviews for the last year, about the various Denon receivers, specifically the 8500ha, and the a110, I think… I didn’t want to buy either of those models, since Denon’s 2.1 HDMI was still a question, while I understand this receiver won’t let the full 48 GBPS, pass through, I should be fine, since I don’t just game, this tv, is actually mainly their for movie watching….
We think you will really be happy with this upgrade, especially if your installer knows how to fully utilize all its capabilities. Once you've got it installed and enjoying it, come back and let us know what you think.
@@AudioAdvice I will definitely post, a comment with my own ideas, and let you all know how it sounds, and if it’s worth the money!
@@AudioAdvice okay, cool then I will be partially excited once they deliver it, the installer will probably be myself, or someone else in my family, but I guess i will have to wait and see what magnolia does, after they deliver it/if they partially get it set up, etc…
I don't understand why US market must import the AVR version, without the radio function, the performance sure would improve.
Interesting idea as we suspect most people would not use a tuner in their home theater except for local announcers and you could still use TuneIn for that portion. Its possible they turn off the tuner section when it is not being used. Thanks for watching
im surprised Denon didnt choose to go with with a higher end dacs like the ES9038pro that are commonly found in the highend instead of the older ES9018 I believe even the new marantz AV10 isnt using them either. I guess they had to cut cost somewhere.?
Thanks for point. It is true that you can find the 9038pro in some surround sound processors like the Anthem AVM90. However, for a surround sound receiver with this many channels of processing and amplification these DACs are very good and produce great sound. Obviously the 9038pro is a superb DAC. Thanks for taking the time to comment--good point.
What is Golden ratio give me details
There are several, a quick google search will show you some of the options
Rather stick with AV pre power. That Denon won't be close to my amplifiers
Fair enough!
Does it have hdmi 2.1 issues?
In our testing, it had 0 issues. Although it is still a new product so it may take some time for any bugs to show up if there are any at all.
how do you think this compares vs the Anthem 1140?
We think sonically, the Anthem will sound better for most people. However, you can chat or call our experts at audioadvice.com and they can help you determine which one would be better for you and your setup.
@@AudioAdvice I had the anthem for two weeks after a Denon 6500 and was disappointed. Traded up to the a1h and wow - Very impressed.
Using audyssey one there's no need to pay for Dirac. The anthem just didn't spark joy but the a1h put a smile on my face
This or an Anthem 1140 for a 7.1.4 system?
It will depend on your needs. Call or chat with our team at audioadvice.com and they can help determine whats best for you!
With all of its attributes and top quality internal components I saw it rated as four stars in a review. I'm just sayin.
We would be very careful taking any particular rating as the end all be all. At this point with the video, we are the only company we know of that has actually tested and fully used one immediately from production. We put it through its paces and tried to outline what we experienced as best as possible. If you see things in the review you mention that you have questions or concerns about, feel free to post them here or contact us online and we will try to shoot it straight with. Sometimes people throw reviews out super quickly without having even having set one up, much less really tested it. Can't comment on the one you mention but just make sure its a credible source. We appreciate your comment.
In high end amps, 70lbs is only half a channel worth of amplification.
Nice :-). Good point that"high end" amp is a relative term. Another way to say this is that the Denon is a beat for a receiver and has a massive power supply.
Um, still not a replacement for the original AVP/AVCA1HDA
That sure was a beast!
@@AudioAdvice Maybe the new Marantz AV10 Pre could be Tested alongside an old AVPA1HDA? That looks like the nearest thing to a successor to me. Im still struggling to part with my AVPA1HDA.
🤩
Too now and understand this receiver will take minimal 2 weeks
There are definitely a lot of features. If you do purchase from us, our team of experts can help you with any questions you may have. Thanks for watching!
I personally have never been impressed by Denon's 2-channel audio.
This is both a personal preference item as well as a relative item. Some people see the Denon as a stretch purchase that brings incredible audio whereas others see it as you do and maybe have experience really high end performance separates or others. Thanks for the comment.
I have had the 8500h and I was never convinced by the two-channel audio, I switched to arcam and all those doubts were dispelled.
@@antonioantequeracid6005 yeah I too settled on a arcam receiver (HDA range)
To think one can go ahead and also purchase arcam's stablemate, the pa410 4 channel power amp (Atmos) and still come out with change. It's a no-brainer. Well, someone who's looking for sound quality anyway.
@@totalplonker824 Arcam gives quality sound but to my understanding you have to put hours into it to make it sound good.
@@antonioantequeracid6005 yes I agree.
It's funny you should mention that, even though I've owned my arcam for nearly a year it was only the other day I had a long 8 hour listening session and I must say, I've never heard it sound so good! In fact the longer I was listening the harder it was to go to bed. It was just that good.
Isn't that the way music should be.
over 6 frigging grand for a receiver!......................... just goes to show some folks have more money than brains.
It is certainly a flagship that has a lot to offer.
9000000000. Wats. Per !!!!!?
Ha Ha!
GREAT AVR , DENON ARE AT THE TOP OF ALL AVR’S BUT THIS BEAST IS $9,000 USD PLUS TAX MIND BLOWING. THIS WOULD BE NICE TO POWER 8 BOWERS AND WILKINS 801D1
Yes, it is a beast, but expensive
Foorgetting the +5 year old es9018 dac technology (which you have commented on as being "still good"), I think if one is going to buy a 15 channel driven amp, one would use it for that (pointless using 7.1.4 system on a 15 channel amp) so, specs say 9 channels driven at 70% of rated (i think you quoted 105watts/channel averadge @ 8 ohm?).....
My question, at 15 channels driven, that must drop down to what, 50 watts per channel??????
Therefore, its virtually impossible to hear in a crowded bar over people speaking (thats what a noisey crowd sounds like in comparison to 50/channel over 15 channels, and one wouldnt drive the amp to its maximum output as it would fry eventually....
Soooo this is only good for its "processor" power, not having thx effects, one has to rely on whats left, and use it as a "pre amplifier" and only rca outputs.......
Soooooooo whats the point in buying this then, when one could buy a "pre amp" with 15 outputs (that actually have xlr output connections) and stilll have to buy 8 crown external amplifiers???..
Its a complete waste of money. Sorry an that.....
I'm going to buy one....but I hope to God it doesn't come with that crappy RC-193/4 whatever the hell that God aweful remote is.
Nope! The remote is really high quality and looks super nice!
