    Grubby, I came for the Elden Ring content, but your discussion about competitive mindset was actually really compelling to listen to. Something I want to add is that I find it quite sad when some of the absolute top-level players or popular "influencer" players themselves have a mindset with an overly emotional or logically flawed outlook, because they are then pushing their own thought processes and behaviors onto players who look up at them. This is absolutely not limited to gaming, either. This is why I prefer objective content like mechanics practice routines and more classical strategy. Glad I found your channel. Your Elden Ring content was incredibly fun to watch, and through watching some of you other content you've reminded me why I loved strategy games when I was growing up. Cheers and enjoy the DLC. It's fantastic.

      I play ER a lot. It's when I have a boss or whatever mostly figured out, and I make a mistake, I get mad. Spoiled by my game knowledge & XP, assuming I have the right to win. If that goes too far, time to take a break. Very replayable tho, I love it. But with DLC, it's all new again. 0% rage, full of wonder with the exploration. Feels so good.

    Best OST in the game in the lion fight. Love how they've synced the music changes with the phase changes, and how the boss can transition his phases in different order. Really makes the fight fresh everytime. Only L is the camera, but at this point most of the player are used to dodge based on the boss legs movement (looking at you, dragons & Fire Giant).

    • @ShadowDuskSky
      @ShadowDuskSky 3 місяці тому

      Camera movement is basically it’s own mechanic you have to learn at this point.

      Yeah the soundtrack is very nicely developed for this fight, or vice versa. I loved this boss fight.

      there are 2 boss fight themes in the DLC that i like more than the lion honestly, but lion has one of the best themes in fromsoft history

      You basically have to avoid the walls and stay in the center like a boxing ring or you get smothered. The point of the drapes hiding the movements and tells of the enemies underneath fits right in theme with the boss, it's supposed to be difficult to tell what he's doing.

    Grubby your mentioning of Autism was greatly appreciated by myself (an autist). It very much helps normalize what autism actually is, which you nailed.
    Thank you.

      I binged some facts on it for like 2 weeks way back (and bought a short book promoted on a late night show - I never do that - "The Reason I Jump"). I'm sure I'm not autistic, but I relate to some things on a mild level. Sensitive to sounds, for example. At my office, annual fire drill, alarms so loud. Everyone agrees they're too loud, but I'm the only one plugging my ears. Tho I don't get headaches from sound or lights (I don't think, maybe slightly). So when Grubby mentioned it, made sense literally, I didn't take it as dry humor. Unfortunately I see why some would think it was a joke, because "r-word" is a ban risk, so ppl now say autistic in place.
      Also, I've heard ppl say 'autism isn't a super power' meaning it's sometimes romanticized by autism success stories. Ppl w severe autism - if they find their niche, their true passion, they can excel. If not, a 'normal' job is incredibly difficult for them. In a way - same as 'normal' ppl eh? So many paths, what if I should've been a tennis player, I never tried. But I can flip burgers if I have too. With autism, the stakes are raised.

      @@MyPronounsHeWhoreif an autistic is able to understand, comprehend, the value of simply being a "likeable person", compared to simply being correct about things all the time, that it is often better to be likeable than be right, then they can reap many benefits from the tism. Very smart people in my experience, but that one hurdle is the filter. Guys like grubby doesn’t seem to have fully grasped being socially adept/likeable, more stuck on being right about things from his perspective. You can be correct and likeable at the same time too.

    You need to explore the world and get some more scadutree fragments.

  • @prisoner817
    @prisoner817 3 місяці тому +1

    There are these things called bell bearings you can give the twin maiden husks at the roundtable so you can buy all upgrade materials from her. It might be something worth considering so you aren't stuck with the same weapon and ashes the entire time with no options, or if you want to try some of the DLCs new things. Up to you.

  • @StainlessPot
    @StainlessPot 3 місяці тому +1

    The thing with taking ridiculous damage in the DLC is that you REALLY need that Scadutree blessing. Fragments are in arbitrary places. Sometimes on the ground, sometimes on enemies.
    It's like Margit, explore and come back if you're getting killed too easily.
    Honestly I'm not a huge fan of the current implementation. Maybe there should have been scadutree fragments in the base game.

      They're always in an important place. Next to one of the tutelary deities (the mostly headless corpse looking dudes) or a miquella cross usually.

    Dont worry Grubs! This DLC is brutal, Even experienced old players players says it. I personally started with all the Erd tree favor +2, Shard of alexander, Axe talisman and Rotten winged sword insignia with flaming strike while two handing, but at the end of the play through i was perma running Dragoncrest greatshield talisman, Pearldrake Greatshield Talisman, with green turtle and Amber medalian +3 with Vow of the Indomitable on my Banished knight shield xD. Its brutal! Play at your own pace!
    I also noticed that you are running the base Talismans or maybe +1 versions and not the Upgraded version. Amber medalian +2 and Erd tree favor +2 can be found in ashen leyndel, Try getting Dragon crest greatshield talisman from haligtree and get great jars arsenal from killing 3 npc in in caelid next to that giant Jar! It will give you much more better start as most of the bosses in this dlc is comparable the Phase 2 malenia xD. I also noticed your flask is at +10, you should probably get that to +12(max) because latest patch nerfed the General healing of flasks. Have fun in your Shadow Land adventures.

    I think at this point in the game, backseats to max flask and iron wetblade is a good thing. Wetblade just to make game more enjoyable, using variety of skills but all set to heavy (or whatever matches current stats).

  • @KodFrostwrath

    1:33:24 glad you finally got it xD Maybe you'd want to search for the last flask upgrades too. Most times I defeated a DLC boss had more than 3 flasks left, so I think upgrading the amount healed can be more meaningful than having more flasks.
    1:45:13 Ive seen that summoning NPCs at least once is important for some(?) questline progression, but I'm not sure. Other than that, It is fun to see the NPC fighting style and moveset

    Watched full ER play through and really enjoyed seeing someone brand new grow and enjoy the game!
    I'm really hoping you embrace the new unique weapons of the DLC, sooner than later. That's half the fun and excitement! You have enough attributes and stones to level up many immediately and get a new experience. Also you have to test weapons on "some" enemy, sheep or anything, or you may miss the true behavior of the skill. (ie Greatsword of Solitude perfect for strength build). Gatefront ruins is great for testing any weapon's damage stats and move sets, spells or anything else since easy to respawn next to consistent enemy and compare (and troll right behind the wall). 🙂 Looking forward to more!

    • @Pill-Cosby
      @Pill-Cosby 3 місяці тому

      I used to have more problems with this until I changed by controls. I use a xbox controller and instead of my roll and running being on the B button which means I have to take My thumb off the right stick which controls the camera, I switched it with LB and put crouch on B and guard I click the left stick. So now I can always have control of moving my camera while running, dodging or moving. Maybe this will help you if you haven't tried switching your controls. I don't even need to lock on anymore if needed which is nice with fights like this or dragons.

      Also trying to stay in the middle of the arena is a way, camera can't go through walls, not locking on boss is something you can do, on close range camera aims for head which is on 11th floor, it tries to look at boss from below the ground which is not possible

    Grubby try to learn bosses move sets how to dodge them and when you can punish , cuz every boss have a move set then a break time where u can deal damage if you learn like that than every boss will be a fun experience and satisfying to defeat, im just like u elden ring is my first souls like and i sucked so hard in my base game play through to the point of using mimic every fight (which is not bad btw) but when i figure out how to deafet the game i start enjoying hard bosses

    Grubby's view on intense emotions interfering with learning are interesting, but misguided. Plenty of the best chess players of all time are well known for their emotional outbursts. Great examples are Bobby Fischer and Gary Kasparov. Even Magnus Carlsen gets highly emotional whenever he loses (as per his own admission, and it's also visible on camera).
    It's a complete myth that strong/intense emotions are bad for learning. I'd argue intense emotions often strengthen your retention of information.
    The key isn't to suppress/ignore/combat your intense emotions, it's to incorporate them properly into your learning process. Use your strenghts, and turn your weaknesses into strengths. That's the key to success in competition.

    • @ETBrooD

      His take on stoicism is also not the common meaning. He says it's about acknowledging events that happen (correct) but not judging the events (incorrect). Stoicism tells us to not react to a painful event, that is correct. But stoicism also tells us to judge the painful event and to react to that. In stoicism, we're supposed to react to our judgement of a painful event, not to the painful event itself.
      To over-simplify it: stay calm on the outside, respond only on the inside.

    I hope this comment isn't viewed as rude, but rather helpful, knowing that you've brought up your feelings and thoughts already before the DLC even dropped. And I only feel the desire to comment my autistic 2c at all because I watched (most of) your Elden Ring playthrough, and therefore know that the Lore is kind of a lower priority for you when playing ER. For instance, when Melina was explaining how she was gonna burn herself to open the Erdtree, you had an impeccable timed "who asked?"~ And while it was clearly a joke, it nonetheless showed that you were more compelled by the potential content upload than the story.
    Anyway, all I'm trying to say is.. please be careful to not have too many spoilers in titles and or thumbnails.. It's a completely different beast to upload a Fromsoft game years after it uploads, and another beast altogether to be around & uploading when that Newnew drops. Not your problem, and also "Who Asked?~" but I've spent a lot of time and energy avoiding SotE spoilers, trailers, theories, and keeping this DLC story intact and without preconceived spoilers when I'm able to hit it up in a month or two is a priority of mine, so I don't wanna unsub from you (or anyone) because I get a spoiler in my sub feed. I'm not looking to discourage you from playing the game (Still wish you'd finish Baldur's Gate 3) - Just begging that you are thoughtful, mindful, careful, and discrete with this precious and beloved story / title.

      Asking him to not spoil anything when he's doing a full playthrough of it seems a bit much just mute the channel and turn off notifications until you're ready to watch SOTE content that seems much more fair then expecting him to curate his video titles for you

    the 140 crit is relative because all crits do roughly the same damage no matter what weapon youre using, huge 2 handers and daggers crit for the same so low damage weapons getting the crits is more important
