  • Sprawl:
The sprawl is a fundamental takedown defense movement used in various grappling arts (including wrestling, judo, and jiu-jitsu) against double-leg, single-leg, and other types of takedowns.
    1. Identify your opponent’s incoming takedown attempt (double leg, single leg, or any other attempt to grab the legs).
    2. Shoot your legs straight and wide back behind you (skimming your feet across the floor) to prevent him from being able to grab them.
    3. Land with your chest and full body weight on his upper back, squashing him down to the floor.
    4. Stay on the balls of your feet with legs spread wide and press your hips low to the floor to stifle any further attempts to grab at your legs.
    5. Keep your arms tucked tight to your body and use them to help balance on top of him as you spin and otherwise maneuver around your opponent to seek better control or submissions.
