  • Double Hip Replacements: Expectations for Mixed Martial Artists (MMA)
Part 3: One Year After Double Hip Replacement Surgery
In this video (about 20 minutes long), I'll go into some depth on what you can expect as a mixed martial artist in terms of performance one year after a double full hip replacement. You'll see some of my training footage as I perform a variety of MMA movements from striking and grappling, both standing and on the ground (from about 1 year after the second surgery), and I'll point out the positives and negatives I've experienced, and where my own sticking points have been. I hope this video is helpful to anyone who is considering single or double hip replacement surgery or who's going through their own recovery now.

Whatever I have achieved is purely the result of diligently following a recovery program of physical therapy and fitnesss/ MMA training. If you have a similar situation, try the 7 level program on the Fightness channel. It could help you too. It's free.

@@laurenth32 You're very welcome. Yes, both of my hips were done with a dual mobility device - full replacements using the anterior approach.

Very informative vid. Not alot of info out there about getting back to martial arts after a hip replacement so I appreciate the content. Im 47 and a 15 year bjj practitioner. Anterior scheduled from November and im worried I wont be able to return to training but watching you move is inspiring and gives me hope. I am very interested in hearing more about the dual mobility hip replacement… wondering if I should push for this option also..

I'm pretty happy with the dual mobility joint with the anterior approach. It's probably a good idea to ask your surgeon about it. Glad you like the video. We've got a whole 7-level recovery program posted on the channel also. Give that a try once you've had your surgery. Good luck.

Thats really incredible . Im 38 yo 205 lbs 6'0 about to do both sides but i think about resurfacing .

You are so flexible i have around 5 percent of your flexebilty.
Im about to do the surgery in a month - start with one side.

I experience very little pain at this point, even after training hard. My best recommendation is to stay very consistent with your physical therapy after the surgery and just slowly progress back towards your previous abilities step by step. If you're consistent, it'll probably take about a year to get back close to where you were before you started having hip problems. That was my experience at least.
