Bob Schmidt shows you a few tips and advice you need to know when installing cabinet knobs, handles and pulls when updating your hardware on cabinetry.
Although 8/32 is the most common knob and pull size there are certain style hardware that is actually smaller. Sometimes the correct length screws ,depending upon projection into hardware,is just not available. I have installed many kitchens in my life with both supplied hardware from cabinet company and after market suppliers and maybe 2 or3 times was it not necessary to at least cut some screws. Even the break off screws don't always have a break off point needed+++Bob
Great video! Funny, I just installed new drawer pulls yesterday. I didn't know you could cut down the screw using a wire cutter. I ended up using washers to 'shorten' the screw. One comment though on your video--I was hoping to see how to measure the hole where the knob goes in your cabinet door. The jig for this costs me about $20, but was hoping there's a cheaper DIY way. Thanks!
Sometimes very difficult to repair hole and make not noticeable, better advice is find replacement hardware with same footprint and drilling that is of more pleasing design. +++Bob
Bob, this is an excellent tutorial on cutting off screws. I really think it's easier to just get an accurate measurement and purchase the correct length screws.
A lifesaver for what should be a simple project. Loved the screw cutting template board. Clever.
Fantastic tip, thanks Bob
Love the video. Kind of ok for those of us who do not have a well stocked hardware shop just around the corner (y)
