  • Repelling deer with fishing line. Using monofilament fishing line as an effective barrier to deer. How to install the line and a discussion of why it works. This video shows how to string fishing line around a garden to deter deer. The approach works because the line is invisible and startles the deer when they encounter it.

    My neighbors laughed at me last year when I said I was building a fishing line fence. This year they are all in a line at Walmart buying fishing line. We have a lot of deer but none of these deer got through the fence. My fence height was 9’ and my line was placed every 12”. I did run an additional diagonal fiberglass pole leaning away from my vertical pole. I tied fishing line again every 12” from the ground up. The deer can’t see it so when the run in to it, they stop but don’t jump because they can’t see what to jump. It’s the least expensive fence and it works.

    Monofilament is also the best way to protect the koi in your koi pond in the spring, and summer from large, fish-loving hawks. In this instance, you use the invisible fish line across the pond, often in the pattern of half a pizza. The line doesn't concern the smaller birds which may or may not see it. But the raptors with keen eyesight can easily see it and will judge if there is adequate clearance for their wingspan to get through. In the fall, leaf netting is called for and hungry Herons are often hungrier than they are smart as they unwisely climb into the pond underneath the leaf netting.

  • @Faithdced

    Been doing this for years, and for the first few years, it worked fine. Unfortunately, they get wise and start finding ways to get through. I think desperation and starvation from the worst winter we had a couple of years ago made them determined to get through those lines, and now that they found a way through, they now do it all the time, even when theres still vegetation out there. They EASILY chew the fishing line (been using the 50 lb) and even push through between lines once they leave a big gap between them. It's been hard trying to keep up and repairing the lines almost daily now, so I've started looking for other ways to keep them out of my plants.

    Simple answer to deer Buy a 22 lr rifle.... Buy subsonics ammo only. ( shorts work good too ) Zero the scope in at 50 yards. Aim 2 inches high at 75 yards.... 6 inches high at 100 yards. Subsonic ammo is very quiet.... shorts are even quieter ! Plug the deer in the rear quarter......they will not be back ! Anything else is a joke ! Its about " getting rid " of the deer !

      What about high pressure CO2 cartridges powered BB pellets in the deer arse?

    • @jerrylansbury9558
      @jerrylansbury9558 2 роки тому

      @@JS-jh4cy Sure.......if the pellets are around 30 grains....and travel at nothing less then 900 ft per second. Otherwise.....its not enough power to penetrate......or break bones. 22 shorts work best. They are the quietest. Just the bullet drops much more over say......100 yards. But can just aim higher.

    You could move back up north where you belong. You could move to Brooklyn or Kensington pa or somewhere similar where there are no deer PLUS you would be around your people.

    This is very harmful to deer and other animals that come across it. By it being invisible a running animal will at the least be cut by the line and more likely to become entangled in the line leading to severe injury and even death to the animal.

    I welcome and live in peace with the deer that come in my yard from the forest behind me, and they NEVER touch my garden.
    It's not a coincidence, but the people reading this couldn't grasp how I accomplished this nor understand why the deer act differently in my yard than they do in yours.
    When you treat something like an enemy, they act like an enemy... and what you have becomes the object of their targeted destruction.
