Jim Luken Outdoors features outdoor life and recreation in coastal South Carolina: fishing, boating, hiking, gardening, nature viewing, and history, as well as parks, nature preserves, management areas and outdoor settings where these activities occur. One series of videos gives a sense of the unique history shaping the coastal South Carolina fish and wildlife landscape based on a new book, titled "Coastal South Carolina Fish and Game: History, Culture and Conservation." Playlists provide valuable do it yourself (DIY) and instructional information for outdoor sports and nature enthusiasts, homeowners, as well as government and non-government organizations. Content provides updates and insights on events affecting the lives of people living in and visiting coastal South Carolina. I live near Myrtle Beach and operate a fishing charter business that focuses on the Waccamaw River and nearby inshore areas.
Straw Bale Gardening, Part 2
This video shows the results of a straw bale gardening experiment. The bales produced a good crop of tomatoes and peppers, however there were some problems with tomato wilt and there was large variation in the ability of individual straw bales to grow plants. @jimlukenoutdoors8428 #strawbale #gardening #myrtlebeach #organicgardening #jimlukenoutdoors

Take your hatches off and run silicon around the edges .Ours leaked and that’s what we did.
This is a really good video covering the basics. I followed this kind of plan myself and found it helpful. But I also found maintaining the plants to be tricky because of a couple factors, or at least some issues came up. To start with, there is the pot. If it's outside, then it seems it could risk getting flooded from rainwater and drowning the plants. One way to keep it from getting flooded could be to put holes at half of the height of the pot. But the risk then is that the water could just run out through the holes and dry out the contents. The pot could dry out if you aren't careful about keeping it watered. One way to try to address this problem is to put a terrarium glass over it, which also has the benefit of keeping the humidity at a good level. But the problem there is that if it's outside, then the glass could make it really hot inside of the terrarium and essentially bake the plants. Then another problem is that the soil can freeze in the winter. If you plant it in the ground, then it's not as much of a problem because in the ground, it's only the top layer that ices. But the problem is that in a jar, the contents are more susceptible to freezing and thus killing the plants. Admittedly the tubs in this video are so big that this might not be an issue. All the best.
I used the same 8-foot high polypropylene fence, but I installed Rebar instead of the 6 foot U-bar because I can easily order from ACE 10 foot rebars. I also found that by leaving only one entrance/exit walkway free of any fence, the deer never came into my garden to eat. The deer could have easily come into my garden through my single entrance/exist walkway, but they never did. By the way, since you have your polypropylene fence touch the ground, how do you kill the weeds that grow there?
This was the storm that took place while I was looking for a home on Conway and surrounding areas. It convinced me to not buy a home in this area and ended up looking well west in the Lexington/Columbia area.
Can it be twine or rope?
Best to get the surprise factor with monofilament.
I fished with Jim using this set up and seen it work. I have also used flies that I’ve tied under weighted bobbers. They work well also.
circle hug no good, the fish go away, l lose big stripper bass big one, the hug before was beter 🐟
Thanks
Those adjust=a bubbles are so underrated.
How do they stick to the older deck?......or do they just rest on top of them?
The just lay on top and can be removed.
I have a 2072VFX. It looks the same as yours less a few items. I liked that SeaArk let me pick and chose what I wanted. And yes my hatches do leak. I was told the boat needs to be level but they still leak. I love the 15 degree stepped V hull. It is great for trolling, tracks nice and straight. The 2023 115 has double camshafts which makes for a more powerful and efficient motor. Great Rig!
Will probably do something similar in my backyard. It looks like the entire country is at mercy of deer :(. Thanks for sharing!
It works for me last year. I am adding it to a new bed. I’m planning right now thanks for the tip.
I am trying a motion activated sprinkler.
There is nothing like a V8. I have a 2023 2072VFX the same color. I tow my boat with a 2016 Ford F250 pickup.
Size #4 does look big for bluegills but it seems to work for you, so I will give it a try.
Great review
What pound test line are you using? I imagine the lighter trout lines won’t work.
30 lb works for me.
Thanks!
This is great. Also love how you go about this... Will be doing this soon
Thanks for posting. Are alligators a concern?
Great video! Is it difficult to remove without breaking the plastic snaps?
Easy to unsnap and remove.
@@jimlukenoutdoors8428 Jim, will I need any tools to do it, or just use my hands and pull up on one end?
I just tried it! Easy!!! Sorry for bugging you! I was nervous but they just came up very quickly!
Good to hear@@dockim7125
Nice boat but with no vee it will slap in rough water
This is JUST what I was looking for! Elegantly simple and effective. Love it! Especially the gate!
I used this exact fencing for my garden, until one day, I went out there to get a tomato ,an what did I find, but 2 dead butterflies an a little bird that was severely caught, so this horrible junk plastic came down, this stuff I will never have on my property again, I'll give up a tomato to never cause this again, I really don't know how to destroy it,without causing harm to our environment
We tried this and the deer kept breaking the line and then tearing up the garden. We have a heavy deer population and the only thing that actually keeps deer out is an electric fence combined with Livestock horse fencing.
Been doing this for years, and for the first few years, it worked fine. Unfortunately, they get wise and start finding ways to get through. I think desperation and starvation from the worst winter we had a couple of years ago made them determined to get through those lines, and now that they found a way through, they now do it all the time, even when theres still vegetation out there. They EASILY chew the fishing line (been using the 50 lb) and even push through between lines once they leave a big gap between them. It's been hard trying to keep up and repairing the lines almost daily now, so I've started looking for other ways to keep them out of my plants.
We start the t-posts with the pounder and then push down with the tractor bucket.
So helpful thank you this video is better than the manufacturer perfect scenario videos haha. Thank you sir
Will be trying these hooks
circle hug no good, they no hug well🐟
The deer are not everywhere. they are mainly gathered at your house. You may wish to try bow hunting. It is rather silent. If a deer falls in the woods, does it make a.........
Why the new boat? maybe do a review of this one. i just started looking at Excel bay boats after your review of it, and now you have a new boat. LOL it looks nice too.
Great for going fishing for the big ones. Great for tight lining for catfish.
Do you want to sell it😂
Already did
I'm now a salt water angler (freshwater for many years before) and like most of you with the problem hooking small aggressive species in gut. I usually fishing with a bolognese rod in the cost and no problem to me to modify the technique to use this hooks. I heard that it's not necessary to strike, you only have to reeling softly. What did you make in the moment you notice the fish eat the lure?
Hey, I found $15 in my tackle box and already had the fishing line so mine was free! Don’t try this people, it kills birds and other things that get tangled up in it. He forgot it was there and about cut his head off
Just got back from Myrtle beach for vacation. Interviewed everyone I met about living there. Some recommended Conway but nothing about flooding. Thank you for posting. You really articulated what happened well.
Thanks for the video. Had a forest communities class and learned all of these plants, so it is cool to see that it is similar assemblages of plants in carolina bays. Hopefully I’ll get to explore one soon when I go to the beach
GREAT information!
absolutely does not work ; this is pure BS
Works Great ! Went from mowed down vegetable rows to .... "No Problem" last two years....😊
I am going to use these this year. I have gut hooked too many panfish. I want to drop that number to zero.
What do you use to repel the sasquatch?
reality
A HORRIBLE IDEA IF YOU CARE ABOUT BIRDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried using fishing line, and the deer paid no attention to it. They walked through it with impunity. Ultimately the broken fishing line damaged the mandels on my lawnmower. If you have something the deer likes to eat, an 8 foot fence is the only thing that will work.
Why not to hunt a few of them? Venison is a good food.
Funny little humans always sweating the small stuff.
said so superior whilst feeling the need to disparage. you aint there yet Brian.
Thank you for posting the address upfront!
Bad idea. Doesn’t work and it snares birds that can’t see it. Ask me how I know. Broke my heart.
