The thing about this bike is: you have no friggin idea how much presence it has until you see it in person. I was always kinda meh about them till I walked into the KTM dealer last week and saw one in front of me. Instantly fell in love :) Took it for a ride - and guess what...I was 100% convinced my next bike would be a 650 twin scrambler I build myself. Now I'm just so lost, haha.
I just got a 2023 Svartpilen 401, and loved this video! Didn't know about the Rekluse clutch, what a cool option. Also appreciate the tip on the tires, gonna have to get a set when the stock ones wear out! I've heard that the fuel-x lite plug in system smoothes out the fueling a bit (but I haven't found any issue so far. Absolutely love the bike. It's nimble, light, and rides a lot like a dirtbike, just slightly lower to the ground. I'm 6'4" and fit very comfortably, and have done over an hour straight on back roads without any discomfort at all. The stock seat is on the firm side, but it's relatively flat like a dirtbike seat so you can move around a bit and since it's nice and narrow it's comfortable without having to bow your legs outward. I'm a Ducati guy (currently have 2), and have never owned a small displacement bike, much less a single. I am definitely appreciating the "Ride a slow bike fast" mindset, and love that I can muscle the bike around due to the light weight and smaller size. I really like that it's a momentum bike, and while it has some power, I find that 4th or 5th are the sweet spot for most roads, and rolling on through corners is really fun since you can go WOT pretty much everywhere and still be at the speed limit. Truly a blast to ride. This is the first bike I've owned with a quickshifter too, and that comes in really handy. Great video, always a pleasure to see Ping!
I love mine. Had it about a year now. First thing I did was cat-delete. Huge power increase. I was impressed. I had a lowering kit installed, not worth the money. Seat sucks for long trips. The stock tires SUCK on road and offroad. I purchased a small wind screen meant for another bike and modified the bracket to fit my bike. Works and looks great. Oh, the ABS is terrible and I nearly ran off the road first time in the mountain twisties because the bike wouldn't stop. I will be shutting it off now that I know I can. Even with all of the failures mentioned, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bike.
Absolutely love my Vitpilen/Svartpilen. Yes mine is amix of both. I own a 2018 Vitpilen modified 😀. It is an absolute blast to ride on and off road. In Montana everyone just stares at it! Thanks for your tips. I will upgrade my tires once i wear out the pirellis. Cat delete and AMP performance is coming. On my wish list at AOMC. Please show off yours! Looking forward to seeing it!
After watching this video I decided to get the TKC-80's. The shop had a problem with the knobby's rubbing against the swingarm. They had to install a longer chain to solve the problem. I also got the Protaper Fusion bars Carmichael bend. I don't know the exact details but they had to fabricate one of the bolts to make make the bars fit. FYI in case anyone is interested.
I contacted AOMC and they don't carry the full cat delete from Comp Werkes anymore. Only the mini cat delete. However, I just spoke with Comp Werkes and was told they are working on a redesign and plan on bringing the full cat delete back.

Any inputs on what foks think I should get between the two. It really comes down to cheaper and better range vs cooler and offroad ready. Need both range and off road to be honest :P
Duke 390 is offroad too, it's all about the specs when it comes to these two... for me the most obvious one is smaller ride, other is more commanding on the street (390) in ways the ktm kinda looks like a dirt bike on the street... check the acceleration on each as well as test drive!!!
