- A radiant Tamaryn Green has been crowned Miss South Africa 2018 in the year that the pageant proudly celebrated its 60th anniversary Diamond Jubilee.
The 23-year-old medical student from Paarl will receive R3-million in prizes in one of the richest pageants in the world. Green will also be representing South Africa at the Miss Universe pageant at the end of the year.
Runner up was 26-year-old B Comm graduate Thulisa Keyi from East London who took the title Miss World South Africa and who will represent South Africa on the global stage in this competition later this year. She will receive nearly R600 000 in prizes.
An excited and overwhelmed Green said she was determined to make a difference during her reign.
In her Miss South Africa acceptance speech Green said: “I promise to build on the legacy of all former Miss South Africa title holders and to represent my country with elegance, style, beauty and unwavering commitment. Miss South Africa is so much more than just a competition. It is a calling, an opportunity to give back to the country that has richly provided so much to me so far.
She’s beautiful. If Catriona wasn’t her competitor she wins MU2018 very easily.

When I said Miss South Africa gave the others a run for their money, I meant that Tamaryn Green was a great competitor...she was actually one of my favorites. If for some reason that upset you, then I apologize although I was truly paying her a compliment.

Мария Verenish D'angelo Demi is the reigning Miss Universe and therefore she had to forfeit the Miss SA title to her first runner up. That's how it works. Hence she's not crowning the new Miss SA. Same thing happened when the last Miss SA won Miss World. And I believe the same will happen with Tamaryn cos she's gonna win Miss Universe 😍😍

@@zacharydavid8571 yes. Everytime a Miss SA wins a major international title like Miss Universe or Miss World, she is excused from the Miss SA title and the first runner up takes over as a new Miss SA. So naturally, all remaining Miss SA duties are then fulfilled by the "new" miss SA.

Hi! What is the difference between Miss Universe South Africa and Miss South Africa? I'm confused
Mister Universe 12 women compete for the title upon which 5 go through to Q&A and then the 2 with the best answer is chosen of which one is crowned Miss World South Africa (being the delegate at the Miss World Pageant), the other is crowned Miss Universe South Africa (delegate at Miss Universe). Those two then get to answer a final question to determine who gets the official national title of Miss South Africa.

I used to think there is only one winner who is qualified to join BOTH miss univ and miss w0rld? Unless she chose to compete in only one or the two pageants are too close in date, should the runner up be sent t0 the other pageant?

Because when Demi won Miss Universe, her first princess in the Miss SA competition was oficially named the new Miss South Africa. That's why she crowned Tamaryn and not Demi
It will be the same for this year's competition, since Zozibini won Miss Universe, her first-runner-up Sasha-Lee Olivier inherited the Miss SA crown and will pass it on to the new titleholder

Because Demi became Miss Universe 2017, she had the give up the Miss SA 2017 title to her runner up. Much like Miss USA - when Olivia Culpo won Miss Universe, Nana Meriweather who was Olivia's runner up insantly took over the Miss USA title.

When demi won miss universe she had to resign her title as miss south africa to fulfill the duties as miss universe. So the first runner up of miss south africa 2017 took over the title. She is the one who crowned the winner

It'll be the same next year as Zozibini will not crown her successor. The first runner up of Zozibini takes the responsibility of being Miss SA since she won miss universe. Technically, Demi in 2017 was not in the organization anymore since she won miss universe. The one who crowned Tamaryn was the first runner up of Demi.
