I do this recipe every Christmas for the family. The only difference is I would pull my hair out if I dipped each one of those out. I simply lay out a long piece of parchment paper on my table and pour it onto the paper all at once then spread it out. It is so thick that is doesn't run so, it makes it super easy to get the thickness you want. I let it set until it is cool and firm, then cut it or brake it into pieces
I love my crockpot! It is a real lifesaver for someone like myself who suffers from chronic pain, knowing I can still produce a hot, delicious and healthy meal for my family during visits together, without exhausting myself during the process. I never imagined I could make candy, too! 👍
I agree. Until this video, I had never heard anyone trash Crock-Pots. It's an amazing convenience for busy people. Whether you're a chef, skilled cook, or beginner, you can make comforting, sumptuous meals with little effort. ⬅
I have made these for years, but with a different recipe. My MIL always made them with only dry roasted peanuts and only semi-sweet chocolate chips. She always heated the chocolate chips in the microwave, heating in 30 second increments until the chocolate melted, then combine with the peanuts and scoop using two teaspoons. I often add a little sprinkle of large crystal sea salt to the top to make them pretty and the extra salt is lovely for flavor. I have never had any problem with the chocolate losing too much of its tempering to cause the peanut clusters to be too dull or to get a bloom. These peanut clusters are a holiday requirement, especially since my MIL passed away 16 years ago, and we do several things at the holidays to keep her love of the season and her memory alive.
I had a stroke 9 months ago. I didnt realize it, but i adapted my cooking to add the crockpot a lot. Which i didnt before. I make roasts or stews or soups , ribs all sorts of things. Its nifty. With the caramel it is a goo goo cluster. Yum
Hi, I still use my crock pot,I do stews ,curry’s , chilli and you can cook a whole chicken without adding any liquid, it stays nice and moist by cooking in its own juice. Cook pieces of cheap meat long and slow that makes it tender. You can do soups. You can cook deserts ,stewed fruit the list is endless. Many people do use their crockpot pots to the max, don’t bother reading the recipe books that comes with them. The crock pot hasn’t had it hay day it’s still going strong in the U.K. Mine has three settings low, high and auto. I put my ingredients in the pot plug it into a timer and then plug it into the socket. We can go out and have fun and i know that I haven’t got a run round getting a meal on the table as it’s already when we get home. So people give the crock pot/ slow cooker the love it deserves.
I agree. I'm in the US and subscribe to several newsletters for crockpot/slow cooker recipes. I think it is as popular as ever!! My favorite recipe is a pot-roast. BUT I also love to make a pasta sauce that I am cooking with Italian sausage and meatballs. I love cooking it slowly so the flavors meld perfectly.
How about using some mini-marshmallows at the base instead of the caramel bits? Or how about adding raisins stirred in at the end, right before scooping the mixture out onto parchment paper? Peanuts and raisins are delicious together!
Another use for crockpots this time of year is that it is by far the best way to make stock out of a turkey carcass. Just stick all the bones in the pot, add onion and some herbs, cover in water and let it simmer all night. By morning you just need to strain out the solids and you will have great stock.
In the summer, when I want soup, I throw chicken and onion, celery, carrots, herbs into my crockpot and cook the soup in the garage. No heating up my kitchen. If you really want to up the flavor, brown all those ingredients first. That brings out even more flavor
We cook a lot in my hubby’s shed. He has a slow cooker, an air fryer, BBQ grill and kettle, smoker, pizza oven…. Since my first pregnancy, over 36 years ago, I cannot stand the smell of lamb….and he loves lamb! So we compromise and he cooks it in the shed, and I try not to gag at the dinner table.
Always remember to brown any bones and the onions before putting in the slow cooker, gives a far better flavour, also once you have strained the solids out, put in a saucepan and reduce to thicken or add cornflower mixed with water to make a mixture similar to heavy cream, then whisk in as you add the cornflour mix, quantity's of cornflower to liquid to be thickened will be on the box.
Fun fact: The correct term for that unsweetened chocolate used for baking is “Baker’s chocolate” and it’s actually NOT named because it’s a type of chocolate used by bakers, but is actually named after the Baker chocolate company founded by Edmund Baker.
I've been making this lately using a double boiler. I found this is a great way to use up the last bits of tortilla chips. I crunch them up into small pieces and toast them in the air fryer before mixing into the chocolate. Add a bit of cayenne if you like spicy. Any leftover snack can work, pretzels, chips, crackers, you name it. They don't last long in my house!
My mom has been making this since the 70's. She even came to my 2nd grade class and made it for everyone when I was little. The game changer, though, is in addition to the chocolates and peanuts my mom would add the crunchy chow mein noodles you get in a can. I make it every year for my family during the holidays. 🙂
@@andioneill8270 I know the version with butterscotch chips to be known as Haystacks also. I dont like butterscotch so I dont make them but my mom made haystacks as often as she made the chocolate version.
My mom makes it every year at Christmas! Salted peanuts and melted toll house semi sweet choc chips in cupcake papers to keep them tidy. (I like to add some melted butterscotch and dried cranberries personal preference) The salty and sweet are addictive!
i made this every year with my mother to give to my teachers before the winter holiday break. We used butterscotch chips as well. Such a nice memory :)
I never liked white chocolate until i managed a chocolate shop, then i suddenly had a new appreciation for how lovely and easy it was compared to how much i struggled to keep all the other chocolate nice looking 😂
I have been making this candy for years. I just use Almond bark chocolate and salted cocktail peanuts. I heat it up in the microwave in 30 second intervals and spoon it out.
Little bit of salt on top will make them even better!! I used to east these on christmas but usually it has peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds and rainsins inside! Raisins and chocolate are amazing together idk why people dont like raisins 🥺
A proper bridge mix always has chocolate covered raisins in it, but let's be honest everyone is eating it for the chocolate covered peanuts and nougat bits 🤗 channeling my grandma here but this is the most right she ever was in her entire life
I’m thinking Pecans, Carmel outs and the chocolate. Make your own turtles. Costcos had a great deal on pecans before Thanksgiving. Ohh my mouth is watering 😊😊😊😊
A Crock pot/slow cooker cooks dried lentils very well. On the stove top I always have issues with boiling up foam etc but the slow cooker is super easy. Dried beans are less convenient because you have to soak them and then depending on the type also boil them to get rid of toxins. An Instant pot is a better bet for dried beans I think.
I make something very similar. I use all almond bark and use on jar of salted dry roasted peanuts and three cups of crisp rice cereal and drop into mounds on parchment.
I make them just with white almond bark too. (Plain white cookies). I use peanuts on one batch and cashews in another batch. I also use the chocolate almond bark but don't use the chips or baking chocolate and they turn out fine.
Prior to covid, our family would make a similar recipe for all of my clients. We would end up with about 1000 pieces of almond clusters, peanut clusters and various chocolate dipped treats! We'd make pretty plates and treat bags and deliver everything! It was a fun family tradition.
Another idea- this will blow your minds wide open. lol. Fill the baking tray with tiny sprinkles like the non pariels. Then make small dollops of chocolate on the sprinkles. Then there’s nothing clean. The buttons of the chocolate will have sprinkles on them and you pour the rest of the sprinkles back in or use them to decorate something else (you know there’s going to be a ton of baking right?!)
I love my slow cooker. I made stew the night before and wake up to a delicious smell and food. Also super easier to make apple sauce in. My kids love it
Edible gifts are fantastic budget savers if you have a lot of people to give to. The recipe can be scaled up or down and if you leave out the nuts and just melt the candy then you can mix in whatever you like in a bowl just heat the nuts or fruit etc before mixing it so they don’t cool the chocolate too quickly. Other suggestions would include covering cookies or pretzel chips or even crunchy bacon 🥓. As far as your tips for cooking meals I always brown my ingredients before adding them to the crockpot. Most foods need very little water if any and that way you don’t have to have meals as wet however the food is mostly steamed as opposed to roasted. I like to brown a roast, set it atop a bed of root veggies in large chunks, set the crock pot and go about my day. The meat will fall apart when done ✔️
I had no idea that it could be this easy, this is great. My dad is a huge, huge fan of turtle candy, and this is pretty much the same minus the caramel layer but I think I can figure that part out. Very awesome!
I've been making this for a few years now. I like to add Rice Krispies (the off brand works fine) right before scooping. Stir and scoop. Maybe around 4-6 cups. Just eyeball it. As always, love your content and keep up the good work!! Happy Thanksgiving!!
This would be great with pretzel sticks added or scoop the chocolate mixture over a pretzel for a sweet and salty crunch. Could be made nut free by buying nut free chocolates and using pretzels instead of peanuts. Great little snack for a treat tray!
When I make these, I use my chef's size mini muffin pan. Line each cup with a pretty paper, add a few sprinkles or a half maraschino cherry on top. So cute and super quick & easy! 😊

I occasionally use it for stews or chili, searing the meat in a cast iron skillet first. I mostly use my Crock Pot to make grits. I use twice as much water as called for on the grits box and cook on low for 7-8 hours, stirring a couple of times during the cooking. I get the BEST grits that way! So smooth and creamy. Anyway, I’m sure this candy would work great in my ancient Crock Pot. The "low" setting is quite low, so nothing ever scorches or burns.

I think I would prefer to use a mini cupcake tray with the liners for forming the treats. You can get decorative cupcake liners for pretty much any holiday, and they would be easier to handle and package for gift giving. But yes, definitely yum looking.
Another idea-- fill the baking tray with tiny bead sprinkles and add the dollops of chocolate on top. Then you end up with the bottoms looking like non pareils and no chocolate sticking to the pan
ooohhh.... I like the idea of adding the caramel bits! I wonder if you couldn't go ahead and stir them into the mixture right before scooping out, instead of trying to scoop the chocolate on top of the caramel bits? I do agree with not cooking them with all the chocolate.
Handy hint with chocolate is to make sure any utensil you are using is DRY, and plastic seems to do better than metal (temperature differences). I've only been farting around with chocolate for about 6 months and those seem like the two biggest rookie mistakes. I can see using a double boiler for this and adding in some cherry flavor, almond extract, or some mint extract but would not recommend doing it for anyone who hasn't messed around chocolate before.... Chocolate, custards/ice cream, candies, breads, and some other dishes are as much chemistry/biology experiments as they are creative taste creations. Great idea with the carmel thingies. I'm going to make some Mexican chocolate ice cream and will have a few kinds of chocolate left over so going to use this recipe as a base to use up the left over chocolate.
I make these almost every Christmas as a homemade gift. They're always a hit. I've never tried with caramel. I'll have to try it next time! Love your videos as always
I hope you hit 3 million subs on Christmas, that'd be the best present ever. Didn't you almost hit one million subs around Christmas too? What a coincidence.
My mom used to make these when I was younger. It was just chocolate and peanuts but they were great. She used a double boiler and chocolate she got from our neighborhood/family friend. I’m not aware of what type of chocolate it was. It just came in a big bag in a small disk shape. It just required melting
I've been wanting to make this (and variations of this), but generally speaking I have no clue where in a store to find Almond Bark. Is it with the baking supplies?
We used sooooo much almond back over the years. Every chrstmas growing up in the 80s/90s. Milk chocolate for peanuts, white for Oreos pretzels and ritz pb sandwiches…..
My go-to holiday recipe is white bark and Fruity Pebbles. We call it Kristmas Krack. I've been doing it for years, and have been seeing a Fruity Pebbles bar in stores recently with the same basic ingredients.
Just make sure your crock pot is completely dry before adding your ingredients. That candy coating will seize up and cause trouble if it comes in contact with water. If your candy coating is too thick you can add a little cooking oil to help thin it out ❤
I did this years back. I did different things. One batch I added rice krispies. One batch I broke up pretzels. I gotta say the rice Krispie one was the best and hard to give away because I wanted to eat them all.
Just FYI and CAUTION: White chocolate chips or a white chocolate baking bar will contain cocoa butter, which is the finicky fat in chocolate that you mention requires tempering, so *neither is an appropriate substitute for candy coating/"almond bark" or candy melts* which contain good ol' reliable hydrogenated fats like palm oil.♥💯
I do this recipe every Christmas for the family. The only difference is I would pull my hair out if I dipped each one of those out.

I cooked our turkey breast in a crock pot this year. It was pet-friendly (no garlic or onions), just lots of fresh herbs. Perfectly yummy!
Blue Land is awesome!! I love their bottles and scents.
What temp on the crock pot do you use? Low? And how long does it take to be finished.
Just found your channel, so glad I did. That candy looks amazing...had to subscribe. Thank you 😊
I still have my original Crock Pot from when I moved into my first apartment in the mid-‘80s. Three settings - off, low, and high. Bits as much as the peanuts itself but I’ve really enjoyed it and everyone some too, and they wanted more!! Thank you
I make these almost every Christmas as a homemade gift. They're always a hit. I've never tried with caramel. I'll have to try it next time! Love your videos as always
My dad used to make these with a little peanut butter. I still make them with all kind of other stuff. Sprinkle with a bit of salt, too!
I hope you hit 3 million subs on Christmas, that'd be the best present ever. Didn't you almost hit one million subs around Christmas too? What a coincidence.
I make homemade soap in a crockpot. Works great for that, too.
Happy Thanksgiving Emmy
I made this but only half and they turned out great. Thank you for sharing
YAY!!! My family loved them, too. 😆
@@emmymade I'm going to give them as Christmas gifts to the kids at the church I go to and I know they will Love.
My mom used to make these when I was younger. It was just chocolate and peanuts but they were great. She used a double boiler and chocolate she got from our neighborhood/family friend. I’m not aware of what type of chocolate it was. It just came in a big bag in a small disk shape. It just required melting
The choc. was probably "melting chocolate". 😉
Early squad! And Happy Thanksgiving Emmy and everyone else celebrating! (I'm Swedish so no celebrations here)
My go-to holiday recipe is white bark and Fruity Pebbles. We call it Kristmas Krack. I've been doing it for years, and have been seeing a Fruity Pebbles bar in stores recently with the same basic ingredients.
I'm making this for work and home since it makes so much!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Namaste!
Just make sure your crock pot is completely dry before adding your ingredients. That candy coating will seize up and cause trouble if it comes in contact with water. If your candy coating is too thick you can add a little cooking oil to help thin it out ❤
Do you need to refrigerate or will they harden if left out at room temperature?
I make these and they are so easy and delicious!
Happy Thanksgiving y'all 🦃🥧🍽️
Ohhhh! Yummy looking! How about a sprinkle of flakes of salt?
Happy happy holidays from North Star Ranch!! Hope everyone stays safe and has fun
I bet your loved ones loved this!
This definitely gave me. Great idea. Thank you for sharing ❤
We will always support you. Keep working hard no matter what.
Happy Thanksgiving ❤❤❤❤❤
try it with butterscotch chips and chocolate... yummy!
Where can I buy "big hunks of white chocolate" like you use - thanks!!
Making this for Christmas! ❤
My SIL makes these and they are delicious!
I did this years back. I did different things. One batch I added rice krispies. One batch I broke up pretzels. I gotta say the rice Krispie one was the best and hard to give away because I wanted to eat them all.
Happy Thanksgiving Emmy. I love your content!
You can replace the peanuts with chow mein noodles and make haystacks😊
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family ❤
i love cooking in a crock pot there are so many things you can make with just about no effort
Oooh I bet toffee bits at the end would be good too
