I'm disabled so I stay in my bedroom pretty much all the time. My hubby has set it up with a microwave and mini fridge for my convenience. Last week, he came home from shopping at Wal-Mart with the my mini griddle for me so I can make breakfast sandwiches or hashbrowns anytime I want. I love it!

A lot of fun kitchen stuff is great for those of us with disabilities! It’s so annoying a lot of it gets written off as “lazy” because people are elitist about cooking and ableism blinds them from realizing a lot of people just can’t do stuff for mental and/or physical reasons, which is why I always try to gently remind people when they get all rude (cause I’ve seen it a LOT this holiday season)

When my oldest grandchild was about 6, his fav snack was a baked potato. I found a microwave baked potato thing and he loved beinging able to cook his own. Today, he's a father of 3 and in the medical profession. These little mini cookers are just right to get kiddos excited about cooking and experimenting. The waffle makers can cook not only waggles, bit also biscuit treats, cinnamon rolls, the quesadilla cooker makes a great grilled cheese or other hot sandwich. You have to think like a child when using them. Less ingredients is more. And kiddos love the Egg McMuffin cooker too.

The egg cooker! I have one like it and I love it, soft boiled eggs whenever I want and I don't have to fuss with the stove, and it doesn't take up much counter space. The one I have though plays a nice little tune when it's done cooking, it's a DASH one from Amazon

The buzzer is meant to be annoying. People often ignore something that is pleasant sounding. An annoying buzzer encourages you to actually get to the machine to shut off the annoying sound.

I used a version of that little noodle cooker/skillet when I was sick with Covid. I literally couldn't stand long enough to cook at the stove, but I could use that little cooker to heat up some soup, scramble a couple eggs, or fry a sausage patty while I was sitting at my desk and I felt a lot safer doing that since it didn't put me at chest level with an open flame and a pot I couldn't look into like the stove would have if I'd tried to just put a chair in front of the range. It did a surprisingly good job for only having one heat setting.

I have the dash version of the egg cooker. It works great. The audible sound isn’t a timer but minutes but rather when the volume of water evaporates. That’s why the cup has different water levels for hard vs soft boiled eggs and the omelet/poach. It’s really foolproof. Used it for all varieties of egg cooking with success for about 5 years.

I have the egg cooker. Love it. I can see how the buzzer might be annoying if you're standing over it the whole time, but when you have a house with as much ambient noise as ours and have some minor hearing issues, even just being a room away can make it easy to miss more subtle alarms like a beeping microwave; that buzzer works like a charm.

THANK YOU for mentioning the lack of an on/off switch. I thought I was crazy for noticing just how many kitchen appliances are lacking one these days. It's such a basic feature that so many companies just seem to not care about adding and so many people just don't seem to care about it not _being_ added.

Daughter has the egg cooker, it's used every morning. She made me poached eggs in it 5 times. Quick, easy to use with the little cup and egg nail on it. Easy to clean. I had a large electric quesdilla maker, we loved the big one. Sometimes it would smoosh out cheese but we would put refried beans, chilis, onion, black or green olives, tomatoes , and cheeses. The cooking surface had the ridges but to make 4 sections. These were the roll up sandwich sized tortilla. Had a metal casing and it had non stick surface. In fact this past week I remembered it and said to daughter for Black Friday, so here we are, I best get off here and go look! It was a two for 1 deal, the other appliance was a margarita blender. The blender didn't last as long. This was fun! Thank you for showing us!

How do you make poached eggs in the egg cooker?

    • @GinaLola
      @GinaLola 10 годин тому +2

@TamarLitvot I apologize not poached but soft boiled. I was thinking about the black Friday sales and getting us a new machine. We did find one and ordered it. Soft boiled egg. Which are very good. But that being shared, the machine has a metal bottom, I wonder if a poached egg could be cooked with hot water and a little vinegar in that bottom portion. Would have to coax it into turning with a tea spoon. We will have to try that. Might be fun. I love poached eggs!

An IKEA induction hotplate plus a 2 quart saucepan with a lid and a small skillet will do everything those little plastic doodads will, do it better, last longer, and be less likely to burn down someone's dorm room. There's a reason you always find a mountain of these little appliances at the thrift store.

The best, foolproof way to make hard-boiled eggs is bring water to a boil, then drop in eggs. Let boil for one minute and then take pot off burner and place on the lid. Let sit for 15+ minutes, then use to make whatever. This ALWAYS makes the perfect egg. Yellow stays yellow, nothing gets rubbery, and it has the best texture/ isn't dry.

I was gifted the mini egg cooker and use it a lot (it has a nicer chime). It's so handy because you can do 1 or 2 eggs and (especially camping) you're not wasting water. The chime goes off based on the water you put in so you can make a soft to hard boil depending on preference and get a perfect egg every time. I didn't like cooking in the plastic tray so when I want poached I used silicon muffin cups - they look so fancy.

I have the noodle cooker, and took it with me to a convention earlier this year. I had bacon and eggs for breakfast one morning, added hash browns the next, warmed up soup, cooked shredded beef for a steak sandwich... and a few other things I can't remember. Everything worked great, but I also would have liked an on/off switch and temp control.
Now, I have only found it online, but Dash does have a slightly different product that does have those things - the Urban 2-piece Cook set. Basically it's a small frying pan and hotplate. The plate does have a dial for Off, Low, Medium and High, with a few tick marks in between - a plus. Unlike the Noodle cooker, the hotplate does not double as a cooking surface, and there is no lid for the 5.5" frying pan. (Yes, I pulled it up on the website.) And it's a bit more expensive - $14 instead of $9. I've been resisting the temptation to get it for the next convention, and taking both. I always do tend to overpack...

I was so disappointed that you didn't LOVE the one you tried before (several years ago) because I LOVE mine and tell anyone that will listen how fabulous it is! I have a Dash brand and I have the my mini - they both work well but I also hate the buzzer but I GET why it's important because the old DASH one I have WILL overcook the eggs if you don't take them out. It saves me so much water and they always peel perfectly!!! I am terrible about not watching the stove and overcooking stuff/forgetting that I turned the stove on.

With a name like "Dash", it makes me think that someone would be using it in their car on the way to work in the morning distracted from driving, kind of like that simpsons episode where Homer loaded up the car with gadgets and lost control, and then tried to send a fax for help... :P

These would have been awesome little gadgets to have when my husband and I didn't have a kitchen a few years back. We had a microwave and a mini fridge at the time. I can definitely see these being helpful in a lot of different situations. Well, the egg cooker and skillet at least 😅

I have a metal egg steamer and use it to cook eggs which you can steam or poach etc. It works as the same as that one and the alarm is supposed to be alarming. The heating element does get burnt from the eggs and from the water.

I think that the quesadilla maker would do better if you got really thin flatbreads or possibly lightly toasted one on a hot plate so that it could blow up like a balloon, so you could split the flatbread into a top and a bottom like making those delicate thin pieces of toast, that are called Melba toast. Then by controlling the amount of filling I think that the quesadillas would be fine even if you add small diced ingredients. I would be cautious not to overfill them because they might just burst through the thin pieces of flatbread. Alternatively you could make the quesadillas by using very thin egg pancakes instead of the flatbreads.

I like the Presto egg muffin cooker which not only it makes egg muffin sandwiches, it can cook muffin pizzas, and chaffles. It also "warms" up leftover hamburgers from the grill and toast your hamburger buns! I've tried the My Mini Waffle maker, it didn't crisp up the waffles, making it like pancakes, and very messy. I gave that waffle maker to Salv Army thrift store after two tries.

I recently got an electric pan/pot hybrid to use in my room (I still live with my mother and we both work from home so I have no access to the kitchen sometimes, so I have my own mini kitchen upstairs) and it’s been a game changer because I can fry eggs and make stir fried noodles on it perfectly. Before that I’ve been using that pot-style portable electric bento you’ve been sponsored by on here before and it still serves me well as an instant noodle or egg cooker.

I am fairly certain that the egg cooker chimes when the water is done evaporating. That is why they have the different measurements for each type of cooked egg.

The egg cooker knows when it’s done cooking (when water evaporates) that’s why different ways to cook the egg need different amounts of water! And I personally still keep the eggs with the pierced holes down, the only times I have leaks is when an egg cracks anyway (can still happen)

Would the egg cooker work as a hot plate with a regular, small pot on it?

The residue left in the egg cooker is from the eggs and from the minerals in your water. It's good idea to wipe it out after each use.

I love my egg cooker! We try to stay away from unitaskers, but that particular appliance is one exception in my kitchen. It is so fast and does a great job, especially when I want a delicious jammy egg for ramen. The alarm is a lot, I had to laugh when yours went off because I know just how jarring it is, but really, that’s its only flaw in my opinion and I’ve learned to live with it. I too don’t like cooking on plastic, so I ended up buying little silicone round pans to use for doing poached eggs perfect for a little egg sandwich/toast. Yum!
One pointer, pierce the air sack end of the egg and you won’t get the whites bubbling out of the hole. You’ll still get the stinky brown residue but it wipes up very easily

Dash has an egg cooker that has a gentler chime. I use it every day when I want to set and semi-forget my eggs whilst getting ready for the day. 😂 Also very handy when I want to quickly make a bunch of eggs for marinaded soy eggs or Japanese egg salad without the dangers of forgetting about them on the stove.
