More times than not! Honestly it really is a coin toss. And Im not crying, whining, playing victim or any of the other spun narratives. I enjoy what I do. It’s fun to “gamble”. Sometimes you win but it’s always exciting.
This was the 1st time I saw a UA-camr show off getting games cleaned. I usually just see many on hunts pop open a case n game with no look at disc. While your gamble didn’t pay off , it was a good video to see. I’m very tough on games I get disc wise.
I appreciate that! Ive done a couple update vids in the past in this same playlist where I go through the process of resurfacing. Or at least the method I use. It’s tricky. Doesn’t always work but a lot of times it pays off big! The JFJ machine was about $120 but I’ve made my money back on that probably 20 times over. It has an adapter for GameCube games but it doesn’t do as good as those $2000 resurfacers.
@@Emceemur We have a local shop that has resurface machine and they will do their movies and some games. One lady had a shop and she told me she made one mistake....she had cleaned PS3 , PS2 and dvds. So she put in a cheap PS4 game (a sports one) and went to clean it ....and melted the game. She told us she learned there she couldn't refurface them.
Really? Why did it melt? I’ve never heard that PS4 discs would be any different than PS3. But I’ve also never buffed PS4 games. The JFJ machine says it can do blurays but…. Yeah, nah it really can’t lol.
@@Emceemur I have always heard you can't clean PS4 games with a resurfacer. Or some resurfacers possibly. Likely the bluray type deal is a reason I'm thinking. But yeah she was telling me and my friends in her shop (she ran a movie n game shop) how the thing seemed to melt (possibly coating coming off bottom )as she cleaned it. lol
Good video Mur. I enjoy you taking us behind the scenes though I'm sorry to see those Gamecube games were a flop. Side question for you, do you have any interest in Atari's new consoles (2600+ or Gamestation)? I'm a bit surprised to see them put both of these out especially considering how many variations of Ataris were put out by AT Games over the last bunch of years. I have my Flashback 8 and Blast for the paddle games so I think I'm good on Atari for now but curious what you think about these.
I think the same as you on that. The products are neat but are too late to the party. We already have all these Atari plug n plays and collection discs and Raspberry Pi’s and I just don’t have any need for the new consoles. Not to mention I have a decent Atari collection to begin with.
Hey Mur, have you seen this? - Wireless Retro Game Console, 128G Game Stick with Built-in 50,000 Games, 40+ Emulators, Dual Wireless Controllers, Plug & Play Video Game Consoles, 4K HDMI Nostalgia Stick Game for TV

Yeah, apparently a lot of people got very mad. Which obviously wasn’t my intention to have happen. But to offer less is always an instinct for me. I get so many defective items and I’ve been doing this almost 25 years now. And your instincts were correct. It’s kind of psychology. When the seller said “im not really sure if they work or not…” that usually translates to “these probably don’t work.” Or at least that’s what you have to assume in most cases.
It has, and I apologize for that. But production should pick back up now. Im hoping to close the year out with some really good episodes. Thanks for being here!
That receipt!! I found a receipt in that boxed Vic20 I scored years back too. It was a Kmart receipt from like 1984 for the computer and a copy of Gorf I believe. So cool.
You’re exactly right. They never would’ve hit $90-100 without that happening. It’s interesting to see a new rock bottom price on them now though. There’s been a spike in units being listed. Its not a bad thing. Great for buyers. It just adjusts what anyone looking to sell one can safely have in it. Wiis are cooler than they get credit for too. Lots of shovelware but lots of lesser known gems too.
Assuming you actually wanted to sell it all, I would look it over and give you the best estimate I could give you, one gamer to another. You collected it so you obviously value it. But when people wanna sell stacks of games for 1 & 2 dollars a piece then that’s what I’m paying. And as far as what I “find any day”, that just isn’t the same in 2023 as it was back in 2000-2014. Collecting ramped up. There are thousands of buyers and collectors like me. A lot of very valuable retro has found its way to permanent homes.
@Emceemur I'm not one that is in a position to need to sell. If I did and sold to someone that sells on ebay, amazon, or even someone that wants the majority of the games and systems I'd sell for 25%-30% off of current market price. If I needed cash fast the local game store does almost 50% of the value of what they take, and if I wanted to sell for as much as I could I'd sell on my ebay at about 10 to 15% under market value to move stuff faster. I believe the issue most people have with resellers is yes most people are open to selling their things but they don't know the actual value the items are worth so the buyer comes in and says they are only worth a dollar or 2. At least 15 to 25% of what a buyer can get for items should be reasonable offers unless of course the items are at a yard sale at market value to begin with. But if they were not even going to originally sell it then the offer should be imo close to what they would get selling to a gamestore with overhead fees.
@@superj2644 Well, that’s reasonable. I never tell people what their items are worth. Most people know nowadays. And I don’t think of myself as a reseller. I don’t do this for a living. But the reality is that if you’re going to sell things on eBay, you have to undercut the current value to even get looked at. About 10%-15% like you said. Then eBay will take upwards of 20% in fees. Then you have to ship the item at inflated rates. And finally, now we have to pay taxes on secondhand sales. So I tell people what I can pay for an item if they’re too high. They can always say no. I can justify any offer I make. After all of that, you still run the risk of buying broken stuff which happens all the time. It’s just part of the hobby. Win some and lose some. The issue people have with resellers is they’re being told that all resellers are ripoff artists. Some of them are. But we have people in the gaming community now, demonizing anyone that resells something. When those same people buy their games from game shops. Which are owned by resellers. And they buy from convention vendors. All resellers. And on eBay. Probably resellers. I think if you collect anything, you’re gonna buy and sell at some point. Im a collector first. I always keep some of what I get. The goal is to keep the hobby affordable and I made this UA-cam show to help people do the same. It’s a lot of fun and I just hope people enjoy what I make and find it informative.
@Emceemur to be fair any offer is considered a lowball offer. Nowadays most want to sell for 90 to 200% of the current value. What is the part people dislike is say when you have a lot of items worth over 100, 1000 etc. And are given a good deal but have to get it even lower to maximize potential profits. On top of that most discs work with a resurfacer and the ones that won't are easy to spot. Not counting dollar bin games, but say you got a pokemon xd and they said 10 bucks even non working that's an easy 60 to 80bucks unless it's destroyed, like this ebay seller trying to sell a sh origins on ps2 for 80 despite the disc being broken in half. And most consoles even for parts are a good 25 to 60 a piece unless they have 3rd party accessories and look like they came from a sewage plant. The only other issue I have is when buyers try to sweet talk the person or say the items have no monetary value to maximize the offer the get will be as low as possible.
@@superj2644 Yeah, I understand that. And I’ve definitely never lied to anyone about the value of their items. Im not going to tell them the value of their items. A lot of people tell me they would offer higher amounts if the price is low just to be nice and that’s total BS. If someone wants a dollar each, Im giving em a dollar each. And you’re right, a lot of people are selling at higher than market value. Convention sellers are often 20-30% over eBay rates because they’re selling to a somewhat captive audience. And im not shaming them. Make your money, do what you gotta do. But people always ask why I say eBay prices aren’t fair when I sell on eBay too. And the answer is that these items are obviously untested, often dirty and the sellers aren’t paying fees. They can charge what they want but they’re not likely to sell anything at full pop. It’s also sad to see games at flea markets rotting away and bleaching in the sun week after week. Because the seller prices high and won’t budge. Im all about preservation too.

Haters gon hate man. Maybe bust some rhymes for them in your next video 😅
That’d be a first! Maybe conclude each episode with a freestyle! 🎤 lol
@@Emceemur I know you can do it!🤘
