  • I finally finished making Okashi Towers, my real-time strategy game mixed with Tower Defense elements. It is finally transitioning out of Early Access into the Full Version.
This new version adds the new Story Mode along with a ton of new features so I wanted to share what I've done over these past few months.

Going to leave some brutal honesty here as I think that is the most helpful thing for indie game developers with promise. I hope you don't take this as negative because I only wish the best.
I think your latest game is a huge step forward in art direction compared to your other games. Your other games look very amateur. Beardy McStrongarm looks like a first game, your sequel games with the commands lack even the most basic polish so they really don't appeal at all. The main character art/animations look like they took an hour if even. This game looks way way better. I was really surprised with how much better it looked. The limited pallet idea was great. However, it just doesn't look like a fun or interesting game to play. Tower defence is over saturated. It looks like you put a spin on it but it just doesn't appeal much.
I think you have huge potential to make a winner though. The art looks super promising. I think people would love to play other types of games in this style. I think the number one thing that would help you make a successful game is prototyping. for your next game I think you should create 20 or so game ideas. Some should be very simple. Like really simple, with a clear game loop and some spin on an idea. Then actually block out and prototype the feel of 3 or 4 of them. Establish the game loop with no art as quickly as possible to see what feels like the most fun to play. Make the one that feels the most fun. Avoiding giant games like indie devs who attempt to make open world is important and avoiding the most common games like tower defence, platformers and stuff with rounds/score without interesting twists to that genre is also important.
All of the idea stuff is easier said than done of course. I think your prospects of making a success are great though. Good luck!
