Him and Chick didn't get along at all because of Chick's religious zealotry. He said he couldn't stand him and actually regretted ever talking the job. You can read about it on Scott's forum and an interview he did with Josh Smith on UA-cam.

At EXACTLY 3:54, Mr. Miller issues forth a most eloquent facial expression regarding his guitar player's choice of... nylon-string slide guitar (?) to improvise upon a Milesian classic. I am a slide guitarist me own sef, but if a bandleader looked at me like THAT I would "get normal" as quickly as possible. Yes, one CAN play jazz slide guitar; but that is not what's happening here. Surely the world would be a kinder place had piezo pickups never, ever reared their buzzy little heads..... if an asteroid snorked the dinosaurs, where's a meteorite strike when you need one...(?)
