    Had a York chiller tripping on low pressure my instant was it had a leak and was low on gas. That’s until I checked the solenoid. It had 24v power supply but wasn’t energising causing the chiller to effectively pump down and trip on L.P. Solenoid replaced, job done.

    Great video as always I’ve never even thought of taking a valve body apart to power it to show my guys what actually happens when the valve opens and closes. I will say that is nice when the solenoid is before the sight glass in the condensing unit but I started installing the solenoid right before the txv in the evaporator because now with microchannel condenser coils being standard, the manufacturers have a recommendation on charge by weight instead of the old school 90-30-1 charging procedure. The first couple microchannel condensing units I did on walk in coolers I overcharged them by about a half pound and mounted the solenoid in the condensing unit and after the fact I calculated it that if the solenoid would’ve been in the evaporator I probably wouldn’t have been overcharged.

    About what percentage of bad coils is due to the valve not working properly overheating the coil vs the coil bad on it's own and valve ok?

    You wasn’t lying when you power the coil when its not hooked up. I did that today and it didn’t take long before it started smoking. 🔥 After I did that I was thinking to myself, didn’t I just watch a video on that.

    Great video I really like the explanations!!! Question I have for you why would a solenoid valve be really noisy on a walk in cooler? Sight glass is clear but solenoid is really loud ?

    Question: why do we need the hole in the disc and slit in the iron core?

    How can you install this on a heat pump? If arrow is one way, wouldn't it not work in the opposite mode then? Guess you have to install internal into the heat pump. Do they make a heat pump solenoid?

    The resistance of the coil is also affected by the gauge of the wire in the winding.

    hi, i just installed a commercial freezer and my evaporator fans keep turning off and sounds like unit is pumping down, and my sight glass starts to bubble. the coil for my solenoid is making a funny noise. could a bad coil here cause my freezer to shut down?

    Do you need to have a receiver tank in the system in order to install a liquid line solenoid valve? This is a rheem 4 ton condenser but does not have a receiver tank only the compressor.

    • @bghydrohurtme
      @bghydrohurtme 2 роки тому

      I think I found the answer:
      Heat Pumps are the ones that require solenoid valve
      placed in liquid line to prevent off cycle migration.
      Cooling Units would use an accumulator instead in the suction vapor line.
      Suction line accumulators should only be installed on systems where liquid flood back to
      the compressor is highly likely such as long line applications.

    The only one thing I don’t understand. How that small spring and low weight core solenoid can hold that huge pressure?

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  3 роки тому +1

      The refrigerant bleeds through the hole in the disc and up the slit in the iron core so it is not just the high pressure on one side. Thanks for your support!
